Cut a 24"x30" odd shape square out of the carpet and pad from the rear passenger floorboard.
A week ago I brought it to a local dealer, Merit Chevrolet in Maplewood MN to have the front driver side axle seal replaced. I could use my own fluid and parts, plus I just noticed the leak the day before and was going out of town in 3 days so I had them change the oil and tranny filter while it was in.
I placed a plastic garbage bag inside a brown grocery bag with a $5 bill and a note to place the Mobil1 75w-90 quart in when complete. I even told the advisor guy that the $5 was for the tech to put the jug in the bag up front. We'll as I rolled out, I though s/he may have used it all as a fill is .85 qts (?) and the $5 and empty bag were on the passenger floor. Not wanting to be that guy and already upset it took 8 hrs for man 2.5hrs I left.
The smell gets heavier for the next day and after sniffing out the source, the quart of 75w-90 with 60% remaining was lying on the back floor just behind the driver's seat.
Dawn, fast orange, pine sol all do well to remove stains but NOTHING will remove the smell of gear oil. Kind of why I saved myself the headache of even bringing it to them to clean. How much time would I waste without a ride for a meaningless attempt? The same dealer spray painted my rear wheel well silver too when I was clipped by a snow plow. I wrote an email and left an advisor a message asking that this doesn't happen to next guy.
So now it sits sealed up basking in the sun. Hoping it smells like it's old dirty self when I go back out. I know this is my fault but why was the jug placed in back? Who said to do that?
Truck runs solid and great at 171k miles. Need the smell out because I have been kenneling the pup in there during dock diving competitions. Last one is this weekend. Can't have him getting sick or myself smelling like (whatever you think clean 75w-90 gear lube smells like) at work because it permeates on the drive in.
