Still working on this mysterious light knocking sound so I changed my day old oil filter this morning before work from the PF61E to a Fram Ultra synthetic since it apparently flows better.

I'm not saying anything yet but it's different, the noise is there but the motor sounds different. I know when I revved the engine up to around 1200 to 1500 before the knocking sound would begin to disappear. Now I can bring it up to 900 RPM and it's nice and quiet, no knocking or tapping.

Could be the placebo, dunno but I'm still hoping on a valvetrain issue and not a rod.

Also, when ever I started it cold it would be quiet, then after a minute or so the knocking would start then diminish slightly when hot. Today it was quiet for about 3 min or so and the knock would only come and go for the next few minutes...this never happened before, it started and was very pronounced while warming up with the PF61E.

I'll give it a few more days and see what happens.

On a side note, right after the oil change with the AC filter I now hear a very light higher pitched tap and sounds like a timing chain or a lash adjuster starting to give a fit. Did this with both filters....I'll get a video later.

Smoke those taillights Josh! :rotfl:.. I do love the light layout on the Depo tails, but i hate how they look cleared like that. If i ever get LED tails, over just my bulbs that i have now, i would do the Depo and immediately smoke um

looks good man.
I'm going to keep them clear for a bit until I decide to smoke them or go with a red candy spray.

I also did this today. Zip tie fix

Went to replace water pump. Broke a bolt off in the engine block. Couldn't get it out yesterday, recovery resumes today after work.

Changed oil and tried to find what knocking noise was in front end, end links loose? snugged them up..... mmmmmm. just replaced last year, also trying to figure out what the creeking is in the rear end, isolated to right rear so far. Srayed all rubber bushings with silicone and spring mounts as well.

Ongoing.

Are the bolts for the water pump (attachment from pump to block) any kind of special? Or can I go to an auto part store and just find a similar size bolt? I can't find any info anywhere about these bolts in particular.

I don't think that you will be successful at a parts store unless they are into engine building, try a fastener center for specialty products, hopefully you have a sample of thread and bolt size. Should be a machine thread.

Greased the spare tire hoist.

I think.

I mean, I greased the bolt-like thing that protrudes out the back side of the crank mechanism. Or, smeared a bunch on where it meets the housing. And put some grease on the cable.

Is there more I could/should do? I was glad to see that it lowered without issues.

And pulled the wheels, inspected my brake pad life, and greased the ears on the pads ... since I had a squeak which sounded like a pad hung up. I didn't know I ought to have greased the ears the first time, I only learned that when I did someone else's brakes and actually stopped to read the directions thoroughly. The things you learn when you slow down and read the directions!

I found bolts at ace hardware. My only concern with them is this, and this is beyond my comprehension. The bolts that came out are class 9.8 and the new ones are 10.9. I know the 10.9 is stronger as it's a low carbon bolt and 9.8 is a medium carbon. Does anyone know if the qualities are different when they are heated up? I want to replace all the bolts but not if there is a risk of heating capabilities.

Anyone have any ideas?

I know medium carbon has better "wear" than a low carbon. More ductile than low carbon. Low carbon is a "mild" steel. I'm no metallurgist, but I found a chart that had 9.8 in low and medium carbon content. 10.9 was a medium carbon content. Not sure about the bolts you picked up though. :twocents:

You should be fine with the 10.9 if you change out all of the bolts.

Installed some amber 3156 LED bulbs up front. My stock bulbs (backups) were mismatched, since one had most of the coating flaked off, and the other had lost the parking light filament, so I had pulled the front parking light fuse. These will hold me over until my switchback bulbs arrive.

2.5hr wash. Not a spec of dirt, tar, or a bug to be found on it now.

When I put that kind of time into mine, it usually rains that day. Washed, waxed, buffed it last year - got all the bugs, tar and sap off - backed it out of my parents garage and it started raining soon as the tailgate cleared the door :hissyfit:

Slapped in another HVAC controller tonight. After all of the work I did on mine, I totally goofed by not trimming the legs off of one LED/resistor. So when the board went back into the case, the legs folded and she poofed. I'm not sure which side caused it to pop since both legs were touching different joints on the board.

I'm keeping this one as a spare, got another one coming to mod.

Don't think the $150 off deal wasn't tempting. Just don't have the cash flow for it right now.
I know bud. Just sayin. Just wait for the belltech strut frenzy sale after everyone puts on their coilovers from the group buy.

Took these cheapie $5 3156 bulbs out...

20140711_161704_zpsdqtahykc.jpg

And put these fancy babies in. Confirmed they flash AO on my test bench before installing. Popped right in without having to cut off the nubs on the sides like I did with the 3156s

Just because.., I put in my non polarized white 194 bulbs in the corners. It didn't bother me enough to yank them back out when I tested the turn signals while it's light out. I'll do a recheck after sundown and see if it bugs me. :undecided:

Put some gas in it and drove it to work today. Need to take it out and socialize it once in a while.
