Cleared off the latest (and hopefully last) of this winters snow from the TB. Almost a month into Spring and Old Man Winter still hasn't gotten the memo.

Well technically, I did this yesterday but....

Hadn't been paying attention the last few days, so she turned on a little light on the dash to tell me she was thirsty. Had to go get her a big drink this evening, to make sure I didn't end up stranded somewhere

You're paying it but it even makes my butt hurt to see that price. Looks like the price went up a bit since February.

After cleaning the back of my winter wheels and coating the mating surface of the wheel and coating the hub again.... After 7 months of winter weather and corrosive road crap... there was no aluminum to steel interaction.. I guess for me, the CorrosionX worked just as planned.

Topped off the power steering fluid like I do ever 4-6 months. I've got a pin hole leak on one of the lines near the radiator that I just can't locate. The line just gets wet and I never see a drop on the floor. So I'll just continue to top it off every so often till the day comes to tackle and replace all those lines at once.

Checking out the damage my brother-in-law did to his tbss when he slide into a bolder weeks back. The exhaust got pushed up and is starting to melt the plastic bumper. I just told him to cut off about 3" around it for now.

We sourced a complete rear bumper for it from another tbss that had a tree fall on it out in Virginia. He pick it up on Saturday and is going to paint tomorrow.

As for the muffler I think it got tweaked enough to get a whole new exhaust put in. We have a flowmaster 60 series I'm going to look into if it will work. (Your guys input is always greatly appreciated on this).20180422_193802.jpg20180422_193806.jpg20180422_194319.jpg@my brother house, he's the guy on the right my brother-in-law is on the left.

I gave it a proper wash yesterday, just let it drip dry in the garage though.

Replaced my rusty fuel filler pipe since I had the back wheels off (for brake / rotor replacements) and the spare tire down (to access the 7-pin towing connector.) Had the new one for a bit and was waiting for a good time to swap it out.

When I got it out, I found two 1/8" holes corroded (?) through the front pipe, concealed by the rubber hose connecting the front / back halves of the steel pipe. So I was very glad I took the time to order / replace it before it got to the point where it would be leaking fuel.

I did take some pics, so if anyone would like a writeup, just let me know. It's not a very hard job, though. Hardest part was separating the old pipe assembly from the rubber hose that connects it to the tank. Oh, and pulling out the entire 'xmas tree' retainer at the top of the frame (and pressing it back in with a clamp before realizing afterward that it was one of those 'push rivet' types - would've been much easier had I known that (or been able to *see* the connector - you essentially have to pull it out 'blind'). Whole job takes about an hour or so, depending on how quickly you work.

I installed my new window switches in my Silverado as half of the originals weren't working right anymore (passenger rear would almost never go down, driver rear was finicky, and the passenger front started to act up a bit recently). I had to trim the nubs on the switch to fit my panel, which didn't surprise me as I've seen reports of that being necessary since the molds changed a bit for newer ones. Ordered what I thought was a genuine switch, but no, apparently it is not. OK, but it works, so whatever... except this morning when I had my lights on I noticed the backlight on one of the buttons is all kinds of wrong. Dang it.

20180427_071931.jpg

Also found out that fixing the old switch was easier than I thought. It uses rubber domes, but with metal contacts instead of those black graphite carbon pads, and they were just dirty. Pencil eraser cleaned them up nicely. Well, guess I didn't need to waste that $20 on a set of weirdly backlit China specials after all.

Replaced the left wheel hub and both upper ball joints. Need to get an alignment as it's way off, pulling to the right and chewing the inside left tire. Nothing else is loose though.

This switch sucks.
The backlights on the other buttons are all wrong and uneven, and when I started my truck this afternoon the window put itself down all by itself. Yeah. Piece of crap.

Finished the rear brakes (except for bleeding, which I'll do when I flush the fluid after the fronts are done.)
Need to run a quick errand w/ the truck tmrw (and let the front rotors cool) - then it's on to the front set.

Put my original window switch module back in the truck after cleaning the contacts. Earlier today the sorry excuse of a replacement switch wouldn't even put my driver's window down. Double checked the listing I bought it from and it says "GM Original Equipment" - HA! Submitted a refund request.

Oil change, which took me forever cause I’m learning about working on my own stuff and not too good yet lol. Tried to do the oil pressure switch too but the ratchet I had was to long and was not clearing anything under there.

There's already a lot of pictures.. but here are a few more.. I put on my New Improved Style driver's side Valve/rocker cover. Didn't take too long other than my wife wanting me to carry stuff into the house from her craft room in back of the garage (that was suppose to be my work shop)
I took the vacuum brake booster line to give me more room to move the rocker cover. 106 in lbs for the rocker cover bolts. I also made sure the line from the "PCV" to the intake manifold was perfectly clean.. Test drove 27 miles to the nearest Starbucks to get an iced white chocolate Moca... No oil leaks... next job.. both front wheel bearings.. parts should be here next Wednesday...

Removed the 4wd switch and cleaned of some light corrosion on the pins of the connector
Removed the lighting control console and converted the backlighting to yellow LED. Looks pretty good.
I now have more LED lighting than bulbs..

All pertains to Silverado

Yesterday : replaced first section of washer fluid hose due to holes in the original near the battery which rendered it useless. Swapped in a new set of hid bulbs. Swapped relay on hid wiring harness. (chasing an intermittent issue).

Today : drove her 400 miles home. Yeah, that's right, took parts with me on vacation to work on the truck haha. Knew I'd have a little time to burn and it worked out perfect. Truck done great on the trip. Averaged 16.2 mpg.

Still dealing with the stupid ebay seller who can't seem to understand plain English...

In the meantime, I went out at lunch to check my belt drive as I have some pulley noise. Idler is fine, tensioner arm is tight, but the pulley bearing is dry. The AC tensioner arm and pulley are both shot, dry bearings and non-linear arm movement. The dealer had put a new serpentine belt on when I bought the truck 3 years ago (and 62k miles ago), and it really is not in bad shape. The AC belt is bad though - grooves worn in the backside of it, and cracking.

So far in my shopping cart I have a new CV axle for the driver side, a set of front axle seals, a serpentine belt, AC belt, main drive tensioner pulley, and AC drive tensioner assembly. Contemplating putting an oil pan gasket and oil pickup tube O ring in there, since I think my O ring is seeping some (lower oil PSI than previous when stuff is cold, but gets better as it warms up), and since I'll have the front diff crossover tube removed to fix its axle seal most of the work to get the oil pan out will be done anyway.

Poor truck is just getting a bit old and some parts are wearing. I guess 190k will do that.

Yes sir.... the brother-in-law and his tbss will also make this trip. We can meet up at some point if you have the time. We are still working out dates. I'll let you know when we got it set in stone.

On my way to Canada I plan to stop in Buffalo NY and check in with a buddy of mine and maybe meet with @northcreek if available. Once in Canada I plan to make it out to Ottawa where the Moose roam and see if he's available to catch up.

Well I’m down here in Georgia

My older brother is out in Athens Georgia. He's suppose to be going in for back surgery after months of complaining something was wrong with Dr.'s. He got into a bad car accident that rendered him disable. I may stop in and check on him.

Spent my morning hours fiddling with the Torque app and Validating PIDs while trying to get some sort of digital fuel gauge working since the Calculated Capacity is only correct when I top off the tank and manually set it to 100%. Didn't get it to work. Tried out Dash Command to see if it would do a better job and it wouldn't even calculate the capacity. Now I am just waiting on my new rear glass struts to get here. Banging my head 4 times with a falling hatch window was enough.

Just drove it and fully busted the CV axle boot when getting on the highway this morning. Oh well, new axle arrived today anyway. Just a matter of finding a time and place soon to work on this thing.

I just took mine back to the shop for a new AC condenser. There have been issues with them leaking out the Freon from the system.

Added some injector cleaner since my TB sometimes bogs a little if I take my foot off the brake and let it idle forward instead of hitting the gas. Finally got some overdue rear glass struts and swapped them out. Went from having the glass fall onto my head to having the window nail me in the chin (not really) as the new struts easily push the glass up. Just waiting for my pain medication and coffee to kick in and then I will be going out to work on audio system tuning.

Changed my left front hub bearing assembly .. pictures of the old one.. cleaned... wire brush and emery cloth where the bearing is mounted (see all the rust on the bearing. The new one was treated with CorrosionX on all mating surfaces (this time maybe the mating won't procreate rust!) I'd forgotten that the passenger side did NOT have a brake backing plate when I put on the new drilled rotors. So, I just ordered a backing plate for the right side. At least I know that the right side has been changed at one time. So either Saturday or Monday I'll be doing the Right side once it arrives. eBay prices were not even close to Rock Auto even though I paid priority shipping.. The old abs sensor mounts.. well one of them was a PITA... to get out. Gee I wonder why the Left side was running hot when I tested it with my thermal gun...

Finally got back home yesterday and already am into my TB. Sadly had to remove the projectors due to out Motor Vehicle Periodic Inspection (MVPI) cause the guy couldn't figure out what the hell were projectors doing in regular housings. However I'm taking it as a positive and hope to get my custom shroud on them and as soon as the MVPI is finished will be putting my projectors back in and angle them and seal it up for good 😉

Brake back plate got here today so I did the Passenger side Wheel Bearing assembly of my 9-7x. What was very interesting from the removal and install of the wheel bearing assembly was that the 3 bolts holding the the assembly, which are suppose to be tightened to 77ft/lbs.. I was able to break them loose with a 6" fine tooth ratchet, with very little effort. Now back in my younger years I'd been known to break loose the 4 bolt mains of a 375 hp 396 in the Air Force Hobby Shop at Elemendorf AFB in Anchorage, AK.... I'm sure I couldn't do that now at 71... but I do KNOW how hard it is to actually torque those 3 bolts to 77 ft/lb with a shorter than normal digital torque wrench... but those bolt today were pathetically tightened.
I actually, got out my wire brush on my drill to clean all surfaces and treat with CorrosionX before assembling. I'm not sure how anyone can expect the install to go correctly if the mating surfaces are not rust free. But each to their own... Thanks again, goes to Rockauto for the great price on the Brake Backing Plate! It seems this bearing had actually been changed once before... at least now both of mine have been installed within a week of each other so I am personally aware of their status.. next .. rear shocks as I know I popped them when I was towing my Lincoln Continental from PA back to Eastern Washington on an overly heavy Uhaul car hauler.. I actually heard the pops but it was NOT the air bags..

Torque wrench? I've never used it on that. I just use the German measurement gudentite. And we usually don't bother replacing that shield and just rip it off. Quite useless.

Replaced the tensioner pulley and idler pulley on the Voy. I messed up and ordered the wrong idler pulley on Amazon, so I had to head to auto zone and get one of there duralast (made in Canada) so I should be good there.20180512_120439.jpgI can see why I always had a harder time removing my belt unlike most of you guys. Guess I got this old one at auto zone or some other part store. 20180512_121543.jpg
"Wrong part obviously" smh20180512_134311.jpg
The idler pulley was part of a belt driven whine I was getting. Power steering pump doesn't sound to good either.
