You should post this up in the article submission forum with a few pics. (though i havent seen a posted article in 2 years *ahem*)

Well let me explain ... my Envoy used to belong to my wife's sister and her husband and they decided that they didn't need it any more so we were in the process of buying it and were driving it for a while back when I first joined but then they changed their mind and we had to give it back to them until late last year when they bought a new Terrain at which point they gave me the Envoy in December! Since then I have replaced the end gate regulator, changed spark plugs, cleaned throttle body, changed fuel filter, replace the fuel pressure regulator, replaced the thermostat and flushed the cooling system and added a set of factory running boards.

Received my new lugs in the mail. Definitely look better than OE. Had to go buy a new lug wrench as these are 21mm and OE were 19mm.

Also cleaned up the OE wheels and stored them until winter.

Stock lugs.

I don't know about where you live in WV, but pretty much anywhere can have someone who wants your wheels more than you do. Another $20 will get you a set of McGard locking lug nuts. If you get them from eBay, most places have them for $20 with no additional $$ for shipping. I got mine from dpaccessories. Had a tracking number about 5 hours later, and it showed in the USPS tracker the next morning.

I was going to get the splined lug nuts that require a key, but they were only sold in packs of 20 and I did not need 40, only need 24. The other issue with the splined is that anyone can stop in any Auto Zone or Advanced Auto and buy their own splined lug nut key.

I am going to buy a 4 pack of the locking lug nuts so I will have one on each wheel. Are the locking lugs keyed differently per set or are they all the same? Wonder if it would be the same issue with the splined lugs :undecided:

I see you are in Oakland, CA, hopefully I am safer here in WV. I was worried when I went to D.C. last weekend. I thought I might come back to my TB up on blocks :rotfl:

Trick is to get different locks for each lug. Takes much longer to get all the wheels off. I thought of it as a pita. Do you have anything to worry about "garage queen"? Knew a guy in a 350z had different locks. Parking garage overnight in Minneapolis though.

Edit: If the tire shop can get your wheel off without your "key", a thief will. Bring Your Own Tools!

Yeah true. I am not worried about the TB getting its new shoes taken. When I am at home it is in the garage and when I am at work, it is in a secure parking lot with cameras. They would need to bring a good size jack to take the weight off of the wheels to get them off. I feel safe in WV, but if I was in Oakland, CA, I would probably have all locking lug nuts. I think I will stick with my current ones and possibly add one locking lug to each wheel.

Where and how much was exhaust tip

Whose exhaust tip?

If you are talking about the one I just installed, it is a DC Sport stainless steel tip. Model# EX-1013. I purchased the tip at Advanced Auto Parts for $26. They have it on Amazon.com as well for $21 plus shipping.

It is 9" long. Outlet is 3.875" and inlet is 2.875". It is bolt on style and fits 1.75" to 2.50" exhaust pipe. The outlet has a slight slant cut to it.

Today I received a window suction phone mount thing, 30A 4-pin relay, and a Green Filter all from different parcel carriers. :raspberry:

I installed the Green Filter, suction-cupped the phone mount, and I'm waiting until after work tomorrow to start on the DRL killer mod with the relay.

Yesterday I ordered some LED fog lights on eBay and picked up the necessary wiring/fuse/switch/connectors at Auto zone.
This is a busy mod week for me (also payday is tomorrow!).

New bedslide was delivered today, that is one heavy damn thing. It took a while but I got the "under rail" bed liner out of the truck.Kinda pissed me off. I bought the truck on the showroom floor. Its had a bed cover on it the whole time. It lives in a garage! and it was filthy under that liner. No way that much nastiness got under the bed cover and under the liner. So tomorrow I will be cleaning the bed up in preparation to install the bedslide.

You're probably safer from gun fire and outright car theft, but stealing wheels? Anyone's guess.

They are keyed differently. I think McGard advertised, when I had them on my Mustang 15 years ago, that they had over 800 different keys. Now with even easier computer aided design, they say the possibilities are endless.

Without the key, a tire shop is not likely to be able to get them off without a lot of damage. If you get McGard (I only speak of this brand because of experience with them) you get a registration form. If you lose your key, they can sell and mail out another to you. If you have a spare on the back you can get a set of 5. As far as getting a different key for each wheel - if a thief can get one off without a key, they can get all of them off. But really, if they see them on there they will find another car to steal them from. Too much time with the possibility of getting caught.

Evil smirk? That front end look evil. Holy crap! I'm not a fan of the light color, but I realize you do different stuff with your truck. But the personification of that front end is just evil.

I should add . . . I like it!

Sorry for the late response, It is the oem exhaust tip for the 07+ tahoe/suburban and thanks to a friend that works at the dealer. I got it way cheaper than original price.

So would you say the McGard would be better than the oem wheel locks? I've been thinking about purchasing some wheel locks as well for awhile.

Stripped a stinking battery bolt today when I had the battery unhooked. It unscrewed fine, but felt funny, and when I went to put it back I noticed the threads were completely gone. :hissyfit: I guess it was too tight before and the threads pulled, and I noticed it when I took it out today, it's odd because I figured for sure the threads would pull on the battery itself before the factory bolt gave, but I guess not since the battery threads are just fine. The silver lining was that a stop by the auto parts store and $2.50 later I had a two pack of them in my possession, and I can now say that I've fixed a GM side post battery bolt

I'm a little late to the party but Gorilla sells a 24 pack. Part number 71634N is our size 12mm X 1.50. They only give you one key though, it's $8.50 for a spare.

To be honest, I have no experience with the OEM wheel locks. Maybe someone who does can comment on this. But when I had a previous car and couldn't find the key, a good shop said no way to get these off without major damage to the wheel. OK, luckily I had the registration and got a new key. Not so OK - I had a flat tire and could not fix it for 7 days. But hey, I don't think I ever needed the locks, but glad I had them.

So I don't know about the OEM, but here's how I look at it: a kid who wants the wheels won't be able to get them off, and a seasoned pro won't spend the time knowing he/she might get caught. For $20 delivered it's a pretty good price for the insurance (Mcgard's go for that. I don't know the price of the OEMs).

As someone mentioned, we use the 12 x 1.5. Different types for different types of wheels (open end for wheels with covered lugs, closed for wheels like the TBSS ones, and a couple others.

Thanks for the heads up. Found them on Amazon.com for $48 and free shipping. Looks like they have a long lead time of 3-5 weeks before shipping. Are you currently using a set of the Gorilla lugs? Looks like they are 36mm long and use a 21mm socket. Looks like Summit Racing has them for $8 more and they will ship the same day. Might be worth paying the extra cash and getting them quicker.

Looks like McGard runs $20+ for a set of only (4) locking lugs.

Why do you need more than one lock per wheel? I'm not a car or car parts thief but I really think a pro would see the lock and pass on them. And a non-pro might be working on one so long that they get caught.

As I usually say to others, it's hard to express emotion in the written word like this. The first part is really a question, not being facetious.

I agree, having one wheel lock per wheel should be sufficient and hopefully deter any thief from trying to take your wheels off. I guess with the McGard, if you did buy (24) locking lugs you would end up with (6) different lug keys which would be a pain, not to mention the price.

Do you have any preference on locking lugs or is the McGards the only ones you have used? $20 is not bad compared to $50 for the Gorilla. Considering I have already spent $35 on the acorn lugs that I just bought. Do you happen to know the part # for the McGards you purchased?
