I'm about to put my modified Bose speaker mounts with 6.75 Rockford Fosgate Punch component speakers in the doors. Then I have some Amp wiring to do.

Pulled the SAIS solenoid check valve and confirmed the valve part was sticking. Likely due to exhaust blow by from the second thin metal flap valve that was lifted slightly. I got the actual valve head unstuck but trying to undo the screws holding down the thin metal flap rewarded me with breaking off one of the heads. Even though I intended to replace the whole thing anyway I figured I could keep the Voy drivable and code free until next weekend. Well I guess that ain't going to happen.

Ordered a replacement from RockAuto. Got to thank them for posting a discount code.

Washed both GMT's and the Jetta. The TB is now blue again, it has been grayish, brown with a hint of blue for the last 2 months. Spent an hour cleaning the dust and caked up brake rust that was on the wheels of the Avalanche, and realized I need to break the bumper bolts loose, as the bumper is sitting against the body on the passenger side for some reason. Also got the 2 bad tires replaced on the Avalanche and an alignment. No more maintenance/mods for me unless I come into some money, or something very important breaks.

On another note, the TB has a new nickname. The FrankenBlazer. Dude at the local tire shop was cashing me out and we were bsing, and he was like man you have some nice trucks. The avalanche is clean, and that FrankenBlazer thing is badass.

All in all probably the most productive Saturday I have had in months. I love warm air.

Drove the Envoy for the first time after dark since the new LED backup light install, and also for the first time all week. Been using the S10 mostly, love the Voy to death but my first love will always be that truck.

New LEDs work awesome after dark, it's amazing how much more light they provide and how much further it projects than the old bulbs did. Now the usefulness of the Voy's huge reverse lights is more proportional to their size. :rotfl:

Also happened to notice that the rattle coming from what I think is somewhere in my steering column is getting worse in sound and feel. Guess I'll be tearing into that since it seems to be getting harder to keep it in a straight line. Thought I had her in solid mechanical shape, but I guess I was wrong and I'll be spending money on more front end parts again...

Got her another year of use, Passed inspection and got my sticker. Soon enough, new brakes for all 4 corners and rotors, and a full tune up sooner or later. Nearing that 100,000 mark in a couple months give or take.

I was a small block Chevy V8 person until I bought My TB. When friends ask me about it
I would tell them that it was a "Blue Flame Six". The ones my age new what I meant.
That was what they called the inline six back in the day. The ones back in the 30's & 40's
were known as the "Stove Bolt Six". There was not much louder than a six with a split
exhaust manifold and dual straights. You could hear them coming for five miles.
My TB has been the best vehicle that I have owned, and I would buy a new one tomorrow
if I could.

I'm in college and I know what you're talking about! I've wondered recently why GM isn't building anymore straight six engines, they did it for years and they were good at it, then they dropped it. They picked it back up with the 4.2s and they had a really good engine with it. Now it seems they've dropped the good 'ol inline six for the HIPO V6 mini motors that they claim are so much better. I'll stick with my straight six.

And split manifolds with straight duals on an I6 do produce a unique sound that you really just can't describe. I think it sounds good.

Some stuff has come in, and found the time today to ad the bull bar and to pull the grille off and paint it. I had the all chrome grille and it was just a little too much. I also liked a little less chrome.

So, I went from this:

to this:

I was pretty happy that someone earlier had posted a link to the Grillecraft page with step by step removal.
Grillcraft® - Genuine Sport Grilles - Installs

They forgot to mention the need to open the clamp and pull the hose for the headlight washer. But it was super easy.

I taped up the grille around the outside, and then painted it with Plasti Dip. I like the look, and when I wash it I'll get a few more and better shots.

EDIT: Next week hopefully the rear protector will be in (just a receiver mount), the HIDs, and some other stuff. Didn't get a chance to install the inverter this weekend. Got to get a box to mount some switches or find a good place to mount them. Swithes and relays also arrived.

Well, I WAS going to announce that I pulled the trigger on a 40 series magnaflow muffler last night, and half way done with my rim purchase...but my mood changed a bit when my effin DDM went out on me AGAIN a few minutes ago

Today was an eventful day for the TB. First I rotated my tires, they were overdue because I couldn't find time and motivation with it so freaking cold the last few months. While I had the rear tires off I performed a little weight reduction mod.

Rear sway bar - Deleted. Time for that rattly piece of crap to go. It was a battle between man and machine but man came out on top.

Then I thought I would treat my worthy adversary to a much needed car wash when this happened.

The guy at Mike's broke my rear wiper off putting the bag on. It sucked but shit happens and it's not like it was on purpose. At first I was a little upset but after I thought about it I was actually happy about it. I have wanted to do the 07+ wiper upgrade for a while and now I have an excuse to do it. The best part, Mike's Carwash is going to foot the bill for my mods this time.

Then I got home and typed up a build thread for my sound system. Check it out if you like that kind of thing.

At least it's clean now...

DDM is the best :nono:

Make sure you post a sound clip. I have been debating on swapping the OE muffler for some time now.

I've replaced the damn thing 4 times since I've had the truck! :hissyfit::hissyfit::hissyfit::hissyfit::hissyfit:

I am sure. My first interaction with DDM products and their "customer service" was horrendous. Not only did I have to wait about 5 weeks for the HID kit to arrive from china, when I opened the package I had one bad ballast and one HID that would not fire. After trying to deal with them for a couple weeks with their customer service in Vista, CA, I finally just sent the kit back.

This was for my wife's F-150. I ended up going with a Kensun HID kit which she has been using for over a year now without one issue. I was going to get her a kit from TRS, but I did not want to spend that much on an HID kit since we were planning on getting her a newer vehicle. If the Kensun kit fails, I will definitely be getting her the TRS HID kit.

Speaking of recalls, I had a recall for the fuel level sending unit at 50% cost to me and received another recall notice stating that GM is covering the recall for 100%.

I stopped in the dealership that performed the recall work to get a copy of my receipt, they told me they would take care of it.

First time I have ever left a dealership with more money than I came in with. The service manager cut me a check right on the spot and said they will wait for GM to pay them back. Pretty good customer service.

Yesterday I hosed my truck off again and got the worst of the salt crap off the truck. For whatever reason the passenger side wasn't too bad, but the driver side was practically white. It was ridiculous.

Today I've just put another 100+ miles on it lol.

Dang! When did you get the recall for the sending unit? I still haven't gotten one. I had a stealership offer to do it for 50% but it was still going to cost me over $200. When the unit is about $12 from RockAuto, I wasn't going to pay $200 for 1/2 the fix. $400 would be about 5+ hours. It doesn't take 5 hours to replace it.

I will have to check the date of the recall, but I got my first notice for 50% cost to me around November 2012. I think I got the second notice that GM will cover the 100% sometime in the Fall of 2013. You have until July of 2014 to submit for the reimbursement. Total with tax I paid about $157 at 50%, so that is what the service manager wrote me a check for.

I am not sure who you would contact to make sure GM has your correct address. Maybe they go through the DMV :undecided: I have lived at 4 different addresses and three different states since I have purchased my TB, but I am still getting the recalls.

Went wheeling today by accident when the road I was on turned into a trail and I had zero options for turning. That's what you get when you act on the thought "Wonder where that road goes?"

Changed rear brake backing plates, same time I was in there did the rear bearings and seals.

Also noticed the rear differential cover had no magnet on it.

Took it for a drive everything seems fine except I got no hand brake now!

Words of advice:

get a magnetic pickup tool, one with a small diameter head, will make life easier.

I had to rotate the c-clip with a mini-pick and then used a magnetic screwdriver to retrieve the clip for both sides.

get a bearing/seal tool

I had to improvise using a ball joint press adapter to seat the bearings and seals.

Easy enough job for a backyard mechanic, it just sucks working on the floor and your back.

technically I installed these yesterday, but I resecured the ballasts of my new HID on lunch today. Made them more secure, i also sealed the slit I made in the O cap with some high strength tape.
