Driving to work tonight and got off of the interstate and stopped at the red light on the off ramp. Heard a loud squealing coming from the engine, possibly the belt. Have to check this out tomorrow during the day.

Wet belt from road, idler pulley, or power steering? Think it has happened once or twice to me. Let it idle for min and it went away.

Start it reaching in after work and see if it does it on a cold start? Save the hood popping for at home :rotfl:

I have already replace the idler pulley and know what that sounds like. Completely dry out so not wet from the road. It would squeal for about five seconds on cold startups. Starting doing this a couple weeks ago.

Tonight was the first night I had constant squealing. When I pulled into the parking lot at work, I heard nothing for the first minute. After that it squealed for a couple minutes straight until I turned the engine off.

3.4 or 3.8 liter V6? Those are both famous for the lower intake manifold gaskets and also head gaskets going out. Did a buddy's Impala last fall in a parking lot inside the space of one day. Are you mechanically inclined? If so then pick up the Felpro gasket kit, make sure it's the one with the metal, and get to work on it. Get new oil and an oil filter also cause you're gonna have to change the oil, and be sure to pick up some antifreeze while you're at the parts store too. The job is pretty straightforward, just get the proper torque specs for all the bolts and torque things back in the correct sequence, you'll need an inch pounds torque wrench. Also, if you don't have the special rod removal tool, keep the intake and exhaust rods separate when you take off the lifters cuz that's kinda important.

Yeah I found out that this was a big problem with the 3.4 about 6months ago I knew it going to happen soon. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but I don't have the skillset just yet to do the gaskets. But a while back the shop that I usually go to quoted me 600 to do the job so at least I'm getting a decent deal. One of my friends has a grand am and they paid $1,200 to get it done.

Its actually fairly easy but time consuming. I have a PDF write up somewhere since I had to do it on both of my grand ams and my grandmas montana. :rotfl:

^^^I agree, it isn't too hard at all, especially of you've got a decent write up to follow. You can save yourself $450-500 by doing it yourself. The hardest part is really just getting all the wiring and stuff mounted over the engine moved out of the way so you can pull the intake. I do understand though that its worth it to take it to a shop if you aren't comfortable doing it, better to pay $600 than get something wrong and trash an engine.

Literally just got done changing the oil. Holy shit....black!! Maybe I need to change it sooner!! OLM read 30%. I was only a half qt low.

Took my stock rims off today.

After further investigation of the squealing noise coming from the engine after getting home from work this morning, I found that my water pump was the culprit. I could see and smell coolant on the front of the engine. I wish I would have replaced the pump when I had to replace the fan clutch, but that was about 35,000 miles ago. Should be able to get some parts tomorrow and do a coolant flush and fill at the same time as I am due for that as well. Might do t-stat at some point as well.

New stereo system installed.
Ran 4 gauge power and ground wire.

Pioneer Avh x2600bt Head unit

Rockford Fosgate prime series 4 Channel amp 400rms

Rockford Fosgate Punch 6.75 components in all 4 doors.

Will get more pics. (Headunit and amp)

Washed Mom's Envoy and mine both today. I had forgotten what a sexy ride my Envoy is when it's actually all clean and shined up. Man am I glad the weather to handwash and wax is coming back around, winter was hard on my poor Voy, I now have a center cap starting to peel in one small place, a bunch of new small scratches, I need to reapply touch up to the screws where I de-racked it, the right front inner fender is busted, and there's general nastiness of finish. I'll be forever getting the finish back in passable shape, but it sure will look better once it's done.

Drove it. Reset my MPG counter on a level surface doing 40MPH (3.73 gears, and this is where my TCC lockup occurs). Spark plugs, air filter, CPAS were all done recently, and started running Exxon, and it shows with a cool 30MPG. Decreases at 55 of course, but that's not bad for winter blend.

Friend got together a little mustang photoshoot. My trailblazer in the back, drove through snow and mud and dirt while the other 5 mustangs didn't wanna get dirty. My trailblazer was the pace car and rolling shot car.

Today I changed my transfer case fluid. It was brown and a half quart low. I replaced it with the pretty blue auto trak II. BUTTTT I then noticed since it has been sitting in the same spot in the garage for 3 days.. a small pink puddle under the transmission. I checked the coolant, fine, transmission dipstick, fine, power steering, fine.. what could be my prob?

If it's planned to be sitting a couple more days, clean the spot up, and clean the underside of the vehicle as well as you can. The puddle will tell you the general area to look, and the wetness on the underside will get more specific. You can do a full engine cleaning to really spot a problem.

If you could send me the write up that would be great. In case it happens again.

Playing w stereo today

Rotated tires, got a tire repaired due to a nail, purchased a rear axle seal, ordered the axxess gmos-04 and a new exxhaust tip for my res delete. I prepped it to get handwashed but got lazy :rotfl: and now about to lay back and watch some march madness ( Go UNC ).

I know lol, I've been lazy for too long:rotfl:. After work I really don't feel like doing anything but rest but it's getting close to the time for nodding

Just finished lowering and removing the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump.
I hope you guys don't mind a quick question here:
Is the fuel pump assembly the same for I6 and V8? Same par number?
I found this on the description for a new pump and got confused:

The reason I'm asking, is because the TB I bought came with no engine, and it used to have an I6, and I'm putting in a V8 I had in my garage.

At least for a 2006 V8, exact same part. Part number for 2006 fuel sender assembly is 19153374 just in case, but I assume it's already got a working one sitting in it waiting for a motor to feed, eh?

Gave the inside a spring cleaning. Treated and cleaned the leather seats. Finally got around to replacing last spark plug because I had to disconnect the coolant lines to get at it, and I put that one off. Replaced the AC belt and serpentine belt - had my son with me to work the tensioner, made it much easier. Annoying chirp is now gone.

I swapped steering wheels. I think I would prefer a less worn out OEM wheel, but I'm going to give this a try for a while. Disregard the loose wiring in the background. Its been too cold (or lazy) to hide the ultraguage wiring. Also cleaned the throttle body, I assume for the first time ever. Butt dyno approves.

Touched up the paint on the plugs where the roof rack used to bolt on, and also touched up the paint on my one center cap that had a small flaking spot. The great thing about the style wheels I have is that they happen to be the same color as the body, so my touch up paint works like magic on them!

Did you put clear coat over the paint?

Not today, because I discovered that I don't have any. That'll be the first thing I do once I get some picked up.

That will save from having to touch up the paint and fading. Did you find some side molding to cover the holes on the roof?

I think Venom use side molding from a Cadillac on his.

Never found any side molding yet, I talked to Venom because initially I was gonna use the Caddy molding, but you've got to grind down the little inserts to get it to work. I keep watching for some of the right type of side molding to turn up locally cheap (or free) but I haven't found any as of yet. You have to know what you're looking for to see the little raised inserts anyhow, especially since I first painted them to match.

Upper ball joints, lower ball joints, front axle seal DONE! Still need plugs changed, throttle body cleaned, front and rear diff fluid changed, transfer case fluid changed and transmission fluid changed.

Front brake rotors and Wearever Platinum pads with new hardware. Removed the brake reservoir (holy those roll pins are a PIA to get off!), cleaned all the nasty gunk out of the reservoir, bought new pins, topped off with new brake fluid and bled the brakes. Fluid was so clear it was hard to tell when I reached the max.

New amp. Seats fixed. General maintenance

Did some cleaning of the interior. Put the car seats back in it.

Made some minor adjustments to my HU and amp's settings, then drove to the grocery store to test things out.

Worked on sons rear brakes. Issues with the left rear dragging, might have to replace the caliper again.
