If you're going to rebuild, there's no sense NOT doing a cam while you're in there. I've found whole stroker kits (crankshaft, rods, pistons, piston rings, etc) for around 2 grand. Engine rebuild will basically involve pulling it apart, changing bearings, cleaning things up, it shouldn't be too expensive and will be dirt cheap if you do it yourself. You could use the money saved to do a cam, DOD delete the correct way, new valve seats and springs, push rods, and a nice spec'd out cam. Shit if I was there I'd help you do the damn thing haha.

AND FUCK MAN $2500 is a god damn steal. I can't believe I spent over 10x that when I bought my truck. Fuck I still owe over 10k on the loan.

Nice catch though man, I would love on but I need to finish paying off the old one.

Hahaha I'm gunna be curled up in a ball sleeping in the engine bay dont you worry bout that lool!! Jkjk
And thanks,

And if i had a place to actually work on it properly and some people to help me i'd do it myself but unfortunately i have neither.
I'm gunna see if i can either rent a flatbed from my dads work and pick it up today or tomorrow or see if CAA (AAA) will flatbed it back for me for free

too bad i'll have my voy with me haha and i'm gunna have to tell him where to bring it and drop it off lol
If i said my truck died at my friends house 2 hours away they'd probably expect me to ride shotgun in the flatbed
But i'll fio, i dont even think i have to tell them what happened, i'll just say my engine is dead and i need a flatbed. Its a 159km (99 mile) tow haha and i think CAA Plus gets me 200km free towing

He would be happy not to give you a ride! Seriously, I've ridden shotgun and it sucks. Say you got a ride coming. And a 2 hour one way trip may not be "free" depending on your CAA services.

Supposedly i get 200 kms free towing with a CAA plus membership
If not i'll rent a flatbed and drive it back myself :raspberry:
Im just trying to visualize mentally how much all this is gunna cost me and its already looking way outta budget lol
$600 for deluxe cam installation kit (including shipping)
$400 for a cam unless i find a cheap LS2 cam (which i probably will do)
Around $3000 to rebuild (max) hoping the block is still good
Licensing and registration + all the safety and certification (hopefully nothing else is wrong) another $1000 approx
$2500 for the actual truck
=$7500 all together lol
The smile im gunna have on my face when its done.... Priceless :rotfl:

Just my luck... I have the $2500 and $300 extra for myself but i went to the bank to get a loan of $5000 to pay for the engine rebuild and they declined me saying that i currently dont have a job and im a student even though my credit score is perfect and i've used and paid back $17,000 in less than a year with my mastercard (currentley debt free)
So i dont know what im gunna do....
I have no funds to start a rebuild unless i sell my truck but then i dont have a driveable vehicle for however long it takes to rebuild the motor..:lipsrsealed::frown:

Have to see if my mom is eligible to co-sign me for a student line of credit.

Eh, it is a 2004, probably original joints if I had to guess, so just a wear item. I wouldn't be bothered too much by it.

The memories of living in Maine! I used to go to a family friend and get my stickers, he would pass it anyways. He would tell me what was wrong and he knew I would fix it sometime. Lol

yeah I hope they are the originals, so they don't get too worn out and need to be replaced often, but either way im prepared now.

yeah the roads here do stink pretty bad, in some cases, dirt would have been better than pavement that makes you feel like rock crawling...

I replaced all of mine at somewhere around 120k. I have 185k now, used Moog, grease them every oil change, no issues.

Ouch, I want to say I paid $55 each and it took some time but I was also installing a lot of other components as well as a lift kit. This was for Moog. Completely new lower control arms with bushings, strut mounts and new LBJ run between $120-$175 each.

Mine is on the ball joint behind the wheel hub. I use synthetic Mobil one grease on everything. However seeing as your much further north you might need a different grease. I will try and get a pic later.

sounds like ill really need that picture. but ill ask the mechanic when I go pay the bill what grease he would recommend to lengthen the life of all the parts.

and I think the moogs were $77 bucks each from NAPA, with life time warranty, if I wasn't crunched for time I would have attempted to do it myself.

I had to put basically a whole new front end on my s10 (sway bar links, struts, shocks, two new brake rotors, and calipers....that stung me for 800 bucks...and I still keep getting lowballed by people wanting to sell my blazer for 1500 bucks when im asking 3100...

I know the feeling, I think I am up to about $1100 for UBJ, LBJ, new struts, new shock, new end links, new strut mounts, wheel spacers, new tie rod ends, and new wheel hubs.

As for S-10's I sold my old one for $500, had over $1200 in the rear end alone. The damn starter went out and I could not get it going again for some reason, so I let it go.

Unless you're doing some hard core extreme temp racing, Mobil1 synthetic will work just fine. Better to over grease than not check enough

I put a motor with 100k in it, it starts and drives, has no problems, remote start, two sets of wheels, 194k on the body, no rust, rockers have no rust, and its stickered with 11 months left on the life of the sticker...I understand that people are hard up for cash, but with the lift that is left in it its worth a lot more than 1500 bucks..in my opinion...

does this have grease fittings, so I could get good use out of a grease gun before I make the purchase of one?

Checkout your local parts store. Anyone I know with a full chest of tools owns one. Me, I refused to pay whatever it was (I bought cheapo links that lasted a year) because had I bought the oems that lasted 5years, I would've spent less. I bum grease off random people ever now and then. Favor for a favor.

Honestly any thick synthetic grease applied often will work. I forget the exact spec I use.

The Moog joints have zerk fittings. I use a grease gun and use some general purpose Valvoline synthetic grease. Mobil is probably better but it is what I have right now.

Grease gun with a flexible hose was $14.99, tube of Mobil 1 syn was $8.99. I have a little under half a tube left after I greased everything. Little trick for those who are not familiar with grease guns, pull out handle on the bottom and you can judge how much grease is left in the gun by the distance it comes out. If it comes out only a little bit, its empty, all the way, full etc. Also when putting in a tube, or changing pull the plunger all the way out and pull to the side so it catches. Unscrew the top, pull tube out, put tube in and screw back together. I know some of you guys are thinking this is common knowledge, but would be amazed how many mechanics out of the NAVY do not know how to use, refill, or purge the air out of a grease gun.

Playsinsnow, I am not sure how long ago my end links went bad, but the rear had been clanking for a long time.

Lmao, I learned the hard way. Lots of yelling and complaining after I put the wrong mil spec grease in a fitting.

I hate greasing the H-53 can take up to 4 tubes of grease on the swashplate. Thats a lot of pumping.
