I should have known lol. I haven't been on in a minute and what do I see? Carlton post a new mod pic and I like it bro. It's been crazy doing this first time home buyer stuff.
I haven't modded much of anything lately, so I'm way overdue. Although I would love to trade places with you. Been doing some reading up, since a number of guys on here are buying houses. I want a garage somethin serious. Would make it a lot easier for projector retrofitting, among other things.

That is badass. I know it was likely simple, but a placement, parts, tools writeup would be nice. How about an override switch so you can see if they add anything with the hood closed?

EDIT: typo

Well my modding has stopped since this started but been reading up on the Colorado now and then. Until the house is built I won't be spending any money which is killing me. I had a few things I wanted to do :frown: but don't want to upset the wife lmao.

You're right, it was really simple. I hadn't really gameplanned much until this morning. When I saw JimmyJams, he had his strip somewhere in the vicinity where I put mine, I'm guessing all the way up on the lip, and had a relay and mercury switch around where I put mine. Basically, the location of the factory ground on the hood, and that wiring loom loop clip determined where I was gonna mount stuff. That way no drilling or anything was needed.

Parts list: mercury switch, or tilt switch, and a 4 or 5 pin relay. Assorted wiring and crimp connectors. I don't trust the adhesive that comes with LED strips, so I go with the 3M double sided stuff. The switches can usually handle up to 80mA at most, so the relay is required to feed the power.

Wired battery power to pins 85 (through the switch) and pin 30. Ground pin 86, 87 is the output to the LED strip, and 87a wasn't used. The switch I bought activates once it's tilted 30*+ from horizontal. That's pretty much it.

Did a minor bumper mod while I was coming back from a mountain top trail ride. Now I have a reason to get a Barton bumper kit sooner.

Got all my lights buttoned up. All new 50 watt resistors, and already had a bulb go out!! Had to desolder it and replace the resistor and put it back together. Wtf

All is well right now hopefully they will last. I don't want to keep changing resistors all the time!

When I come up we gotta fix my LEDs that failed, then gut the cat [emoji12]

Dad's friend tightened up the loose front hubs while I wired in the new lights. We also added an aluminum skid plate.

I had the optima on one of my old cars, and just loved it. Still think Im gonna have to replace the alternator though...the lights still flicker and the volt meter still varies...but the battery was shot, the truck wouldnt start on Friday, had to jump it.

Wish I could afford to upgrade. Lights flicker inside when starting up. More noticeable than in the past. RPM's drop a tad too every once in a while idling. Idk how old this current battery is.

I haven't noticed that yet, but I did think my voltage regulator was going bad a few months back

I noticed it really bad on Friday evening on my way home from work. Got stuck in traffic and WOW they almost turned OFF!!! lol gave it a wee bit of gas and they would brighten back up, the idle would go back down and they would dim again. I noticed the voltage meter would drop below the 14 volt mark by about 2 lines. I can only guess the alt/regulator is on its way out!

I have a digital rpm gauge installed in my dash and when my TB used to idle oddly it would drop from 624 down to like 594-610, then go back to my normal idling range. Also have a digital voltage gauge, it used to be as low at 12.6-13.2, but for a while now it remains at 13.9-14.2. Idk why my TB used to have weird RPM drops/voltage shifts. That was back like July/August time frame.

Used 4WD in the slop today. I may get to exercise that a bit more often now that I live out in the country more than I used to. Still ran mostly 2WD though.

Tonight the temps dropped to nearly single digits and the wind kicked up, so the slop turned to a lot of ice. Slid through a light that turned on me. Oh well, no one around at 11:30 PM anyway and even if there was the cross traffic wasn't going to get moving that quickly either

Got the supplies for doing the headlight mod. I'm not doing anything fancy like projectors just getting rid of the orange and painting the plastic to match the truck.

20141118_143913.jpg

Also got these TXBlazer 3 way LED inserts. Amber front, red rear, white bottom.

Nice. How does the 3 ways work? Amber/red turn signals and the white used as running lights to match the lights in the clear corners you are about to install :undecided:

I'd like to take a look underneath, but my jack is too tall to get underneath the frame. Can't afford a low pro jack...

For what I'm doing amber/red turns and the whites for puddle lights.

When Chris told me about these I was so excited that I forgot I lost perimeter lighting a few mods ago. :lipsrsealed:

About those clear corners - after all I learned about switchbacks I found out first hand that I can't legally have white running lights no ifs ands or buts so have to go amber. :badday:
