I'd like to get one of those whenever this battery craps out, they're just expensive

I moved this one from my last vehicle... It is about 10 years old and it sat for a year after I bough the TB. Most batteries only last 3 years here in Vegas

I think you've mentioned that battery before that's been lying around, not sure though

Optima is overpriced for what you get. Apparently their quality in recent years took quite the nose dive. Your 10 year old Optima ain't the same as a new one.

Enough to be worth the extra upcharge over a number of other batteries?

I guess I just never understood what was somehow so special about the red tops (or any other Optima) in the first place over any other half decent battery out there.

I checked the date on this battery and it is over 12 years old. I have bought batteries that are pretty expensive and still have to replace them every 2 - 3 years for the most part they have been under warranty. When you figure the time and hassle of replacing a battery every few years, yeah the price is worth the price.

Sounds like he has one of the red tops from when the quality standards were higher. We need some testing around here to confirm. I nominate BT to buy a new red top, and if he's still around in 3-5 years, see if it's still going strong.

Sadly the glory days of Optima have died with the move to production in Mexico.

The new standard is Odyssey or their rebadged sister the Die Hard Platinum.

Washed and waxed it for the year. Did my Dad's 2013 Tundra and Mom's 2014.5 Camry too. Got my Sister's Neon done a few months ago and wifey's Aveo last weekend.

I usually only wash mine well once a year. Rest of the time its 70 on the highway in the rain or a whore's bath in the coin-op car wash. No garage, no driveway - parallel on street parking. I live right off a state highway on the main road out of town. The river is 1/2 mile away. They dump coal on and off the barges, there is an aggregate company, loading dock, sewage treatment plant and one of the largest beer distributors in the area between me and the river. So with the highway traffic and all the truck traffic - I have basically just given in. It'll look like hell again tomorrow anyway

When we washed and waxed wifey's Aveo . . .went to pull the car out of my parents garage and it the motor started slapping. Ended up shearing teeth off the timing belt. But she is BAD about washing the car (like never does it - bad) and said when the motor started slapping "See I told you! You broke it - you took the layer of dirty holding the car together off"

Washed it finally, but my stomach was killing me for whatever reason so it sucked kneeling down to clean the wheels
