Replaced my thermostat as it was getting lazy. Of course now I find out that the shop that replaced some heater hose fitting for me two winters ago had refilled the system with green coolant and not Dexcool, so I can't just simply refill with the Dexcool I already had on hand :hissyfit: Either I do a complete flush or just refill with green... Either way, I need more coolant, so screw it I'm going to refill with the green stuff I guess.

Got the system refilled and burped. Bought too much coolant also, as there was more left in the block than I though there would be. Oh well.

Now I have a sight I have never seen with this truck in the 4 years and 90k miles I've had it - the needle is right at 210. It had always been just 1 tick below that which had me concerned at first, but mpg was always where it should be, system was in closed loop, never a code, no cat issues (original got to 190k or so before the pipes rusted off of it). Interesting.

Dexacool gets clumpy and dirties quicker. I will go green when I flush mine.
I've never have had that problem, at least not on Dex that was changed on schedule (every 5 years/100k miles).

Drove mine one last time for the season. Took her out yesturday to have the emissions test done (my birthday is in Feb and we have to have tests done every other year so since shes parked, I knocked out early) and then I drove her to my parents today. She is now in the garage awaiting the final preparations for storage tomorrow since im off for the holiday.

Put the beaSSt in her final resting place until next year. Hooked up the battery tender and thinking about putting her on jack stands so i dont get flat spots on the tires and to take the wheels off to detail them over the winter.

I'm hoping the weather holds for the next 32 days until I get possession of my house, so I can drive my car over there and tuck it in for the winter in the garage. I've been told it is best to keep the suspension loaded during storage, I guess some people use the jack stands on the axles/control arms to achieve this when taking the wheels off to prevent flat spots. Not really sure, I haven't tried it. I still have my crappy worn out stock set for my Camaro so it is going to sit on them over the winter while the good wheels/tires are neatly stacked.

Honestly, I've never tried it either and I dont have a 2nd set of wheels lol. When my father stores his '68 Firebird and his Motorcycle, he never puts them on jack stands, but does put like a piece of carpet, rug, or cardboard under each tire.

What's the potential downside to not having the suspension loaded during storage?

Something about keeping the bushings at a non-resting position for that long could be bad on the rubber, also at full extension the shock tubes are being held at their max limit (fairly forcefully by the springs). At least one guy I know on another forum had his shock seize up when he did that and had to replace them in the spring as it wouldn't compress again.

:undecided: Yeah that makes sense. Unfortunately, I'm not fancy enough to have multiple vehicles that would require storing one of them. :jealous:
Just be smart at where you place the stands. in the back put them under the axle (keeps the loads). The front might need to do some checking but i would probably stack some good 4x4 or 6x6 and rest the lower control arm on them. Should keep weight as if sitting on tires.

redid my chasis to frame ground in front and added another in the rear by the battery... would really like to cure my alt whine, its really bad... I never notice it when I'm driving because the music is blaring, but when I have my gf in the car, i have to turn the stereo off.
