Cleaned the crap out yesterday, washed and vacuumed today. Going to steam clean the carpets once we're done with this salt crap. Looking forward to changing out the front bumper cover this spring and adding some factory fogs.

Make sure to get the mounting hardware if the cover you order doesn't already have it!

And maybe I should steam my carpets, shampooing wasn't entirely as effective as I had hoped last time I did it.

well, I tried the baking method for getting the lights opened, no bueno!!! :rotfl: those suckers are STUCK good from the factory. So now I will try Carlton's method and just cut them open. Hope I don't break them where the cross bar goes. That's a tight space in there to try and separate.

Baking works on aftermarket. OEM are permanently sealed and require being cut.

I got aftermarket for my retrofit so I could actually open them without opening myself. Although I still managed to do that anyway :lipsrsealed:

I was trimming the bezel to get the high beam projector shroud to fit right. I was tired (mistake 1), cutting towards myself (mistake 2), and trimming too quickly (mistake 3). Blade slipped and buried in the side of my thumb just in front of the knuckle, deep enough to hit the tendon there. Even after it healed over it took several weeks for the random pain tingles and/or numbness to stop. I have a 1/2" long scar there now, though thanks to it being a sharp blade it isn't too visible.

I was told I should have gotten stitches but the heck with that. I would have had to drive somewhere at midnight, waited, paid money, and then probably ended up with a worse scar than just taping it together and letting it heal by itself. My way was free

Thanks I'll check those out! I was also looking at infinites or however you spell it lol

Honestly, I've been heavy into the car audio scene for about 6 years.

73702_158008207573056_1141128_n.jpg

I have a lot of friends with sounds, and have heard a lot of speakers and have gone through a bunch of different brands. Kicker, RE, Alpine, Sony, Infinity, Rainbow, Zapco, Image Dynamics, Rockford, etc etc.

In my own truck, I started with Image Dynamics XS 6.5's and loved them, until the guy I was buying from brought in Massive Audio. To me, Massive Audio RK6 are the best bang for the buck speakers I've ever had the pleasure of using. And when I just looked up the prices now, I am shocked. I paid $350 retail and thought that was a good deal at the time. I just saw them on onlinecarstereo for $135. That is a steal for these speakers.

Massive Audio RK 6 (RK6) 6-1/2" 500W 2-Way Rebel Series Coaxial Component Speakers at Onlinecarstereo.com

I'm actually sitting here and thinking about buying another set, even though I stopped thinking about adding a 2nd set over a year ago. I'm running mine bridged on a Sundown 100.4 (320 watts to each speaker) and they take it all day long.

I baked my OEM lights open. Took it low and slow. 5-6 times back in the oven, and a LOT of patience.

Hmm, yeah, I don't have that much... :raspberry:

I will try the bake method on my next retro, since I'll have aftermarket lights. I think my patience limit may be 2 or 3 times in the oven, but if they don't come apart after that, out comes the Dremel!!!

My thoughts exactly. I had them in the oven for over an hour (3 seperate times for 20 min and the initial bake for 30 min) on 230* and they still didnt budge. F that! :rotfl: so now its dremel time. Did you run into any snags Carlton when you had to break open where the crossbar goes? Thats a tiiiiiny spot to try and get a dremel in

Did that with a box cutter and my left index finger tip. Cut it from one side to the other down to the bone. (on a side note, don't believe your biology teachers or biology books. The bones are not as white as you have seen them.) It was brand new box cutter so it was a super clean cut, didn't even bleed right away. But I cleaned it, took medical tapes and taped the 2 pieces of finger together. Wrapped it up and went back to work. Not even a mark there. If I didn't remember where it happened, I would never be able to tell.

The first time I cut my headlights open, I was using a box cutter to clean out all the old perma-seal around the edges. Made the same 3 mistakes Jared did, and cut my finger pretty bad, but not as bad as you guys did, (twice even :ugh:) before calling it a night to pick back up in the morning.

No major snags while cutting the inside open, just some minor ones. I used a cutoff wheel, instead of a cutting bit, so the slim space wasn't much of an issue. If your Dremel is variable speed, don't use a high speed setting right away. It will create too much heat and melt the plastic, rather than give you a clean cut. So after you make your pass, the melted plastic will close the gap again :duh: Make a few passes on a lower setting to give yourself a nice groove, or if you are using a high speed setting, make quicker shallow passes so the lens doesn't heat up that much.

I've heard some people say they won't use the cutting method because they want their lights to look stock when the hood is open :weird: Well I found that if you cut the outside trim carefully enough on the back side of the lip, the clear lens will keep trim attached to it and your cut marks won't be visible anyway. My first time around, I was locked into 'destroy perma-seal' mode and stripped off that trim section before thinking about it, so a little more RTV was necessary. :twocents:

Smitty has a great deal going on for retrofits. He is even offering a set of OE headlights with the retro. That's a hell of a deal.

You aren't the only one. I have a spare headlight in my shed I've tried hacking into with a dremel. Didn't go well

How far did you get with the Dremel? You know I'm not gonna let you give up that quickly!!

Edit: I should mention, that I use THESE cutoff wheels, not the rinky dinky ones that came with the Dremel

I saw that... but I just want clear corners, nothing fancy. $500 is too much for me on a pair of headlights :rotfl:

that's exactly why I bought a used set from a member. I wasn't going to touch my factory lights. I only spent $40 on the OEM set I have, but man, what a PITA...

ohhhh she's hacked up pretty good , I was cutting for about an hour and half and still didn't have an leeway. A lot harder then I initially thought. Simple in description but difficult in practice. I might just buy a set of Vision's off of ebay and then just send them to smitty, but I really did not want to spend that much on this mod. I didn't get back no where near what I was expecting for taxes, and other priorities have taken over now (house, DD car maintenance, airplane ticket to go see my grandfather, etc...) so I just don't know what im going to do..

When I cut my headlights open, it only took about 10 minutes per side. Granted I trashed the first light I tried by cutting too far, but once I figured out where the cuts needed to go (only in the thin black plastic) it went super smooth the next few times.

I don't know if I will cut mine open. I like the Orange honestly. Probably will do white forward and red back in my LEDs for mirror lights.

I officially decided that if my friend wants to purchase the TB I would let him :frown:. He will be back stateside next week so I won't know until then. Told a couple guys at work about it and one called his wife immediately to see if he could buy it. As much as I would hate to let it go it would be well taken care of by either party.

Was on my way home and heard the dreaded noise of something in a tire. Pulled over to find a bolt, not a screw, but literally a freaking bolt, stuck in the tire. :hissyfit: It wasn't leaking down very fast at all, so I got her aired up good and headed home (20 miles). Made it home and got the wheel and tire pulled off and put in the back of my old S10. Looks like a run to town to get the tire fixed in the morning.

As it stands now it is not a money issue or anything, he made an offer about a month ago and I told him I would think about it. As of now he is in Bahrain and will be back next week, then he heads to Corpus Cristi to empty his storage locker. After that he is off to San Diego. He said he wants a 4x4 when he goes and mine looks badass.

It is not sold and he could change his mind at any point. That being said I would be happy for him to buy it as he would honestly need it more than me. I also really do not need 3 vehicles. I will also say that I did not need the Avalanche, but 2 years ago I was looking to trade the TB for one. I would have had to stick about $6k in negative equity on it so I figured screw it I will wait.

Put my fixed tire back on it, then tore the radio out and fixed where I fixed the burnt out bulbs - I had to replace some of the blue bulb covers. Then I gave it a good de-wintering by cleaning it thoroughly inside and out. Since it's clean, I think tomorrow I may finish the debadging I started a while back. :undecided:
