Oil change and a new set of shoes. Had a set of 255/70r16 Cooper Discoverer AT3 installed today. They look awesome, and are only slightly louder than the Goodyears that were on it. Now I just have one concern. Took it about 25 miles on the expressway today and the truck feels very unstable on the new tires. Not a vibration like an unbalanced wheel, but more a general floating feeling. Its almost as if it's driving in strong gusts of wind where the truck just feels wobbly and a bit uncertain. There was a bit of a headwind on the initial trip but no gusting, and it was rough enough that I stopped once 5 miles in , when i could tell my wife was feeling carsick, to check tire pressure to be sure they weren't way off. The rear end especially feels like its moving side to side. On the way home with the wind at its back, wasn't half as bad, but still definitely there. Any ideas what could cause this?

My only thoughts were A) the trucks factory suspension at 87500 miles could be showing its age, but I still wouldn't expect such a pronounced change with the tire change, or B) perhaps one of these tires has an odd belt or something, but it seems at 75 I'd feel a fast vibration, not this random wandering of the tail end. Any advice would be appreciated.

They were pretty high when i checked them, at 40psi, but backing them down to 33 all the way around didn't change anything. I'll chalk them at some point to be sure what they should be at, but 33 shouldn't be that far off, since they're barely wider than stock tires, and no taller.

I'm also reading the tires may take 500 miles or so to really break in. Maybe tomorrow I'll go steal my niece's sidewalk chalk and then just get some miles on it before I worry too much. Sure hope they come around anyways, since these are the tires I've wanted since I bought the truck. It came with a brand new set of Goodyears, so I couldn't justify tearing them off right away, but I've never been happy with them.

Got up this morning and decided to try my hand at cleaning up the engine bay a little bit. Nothing 'show' worthy, just so it's not so damn grimey every time I reach in there and touch something. Not bad for just a spray and rinse. Need to pick up a scrub brush for next time though.

Couple before and after :pictures:

I went from the stock radio to a Pioneer FH-X700BT. double din

http://pics.mycybershops.net/ebayimages3/Pioneer/Pioneer%20FH-X700BT%20-%20Inside.jpg

definitely a lot cleaner and the Bluetooth is amazingly clear!

got the unit from best buy for $140 for the head unit and 220 for the install and the necessary parts.

I called best buy this morning and informed them that their website listed the price of that unit at $109 when I paid $140 for it. so I am getting a gift card for 30 bucks to put towards a new video game...double score!.

Although I personally didn't do anything physical to the Envoy, I did have a long discussion with the mechanic today over the engine swap. So I discovered today that not only is my 2002 Envoy getting a refurbished engine, but that it is a 2005 I6 engine. So now the holdup is getting the parts to fit the 05.

I drove my GMT today. Nothing unusual.

However, I concocted a plan for my next mod. Nobody has done this before. Estimated cost: $100.

Spending more money on it

Ordered wiper blades (Rock Auto Trico closeout sale woot!), HVAC actuator, and brake rotors/pads. My actuator has been clicking for a long time now, and I know as soon as it gets cold or I go to disconnect the battery to clean the throttle body it'll totally bust and I'll be stuck fixing it when it is 10 degrees out  Brakes are making noise and are pretty worn as they've been on there for some time now, so I should take care of those also before it gets too cold and uncomfortable.

I've noticed a clicking noise when my AC is on 1 or 3. Could this be my HVAC actuator also? Everything still works it's just annoying.

Last night it was finally time to swap out the stock speakers, I was down to only one left. I had 4 Kicker DS65 waiting in reserve I just hate pulling door panels :hissyfit: I haven't meet a bolt that I wouldn't take on but those dam plastic clips drive me insane. Anyway I found May03LT's Youtube video and it was a joke :wootwoot: Finished the four speakers in an 1.5hrs and that included reaming out the front enclosures. Only one broken clip per door and I didn't break the sail panel clips!

Anyway a big shoutout and huge thanks to May03LT for posting that video :2thumbsup:

Put more air in the tires, including drop the spare,(put 38PSI in the spare, not so much in the other 4, but a little extra to cover freezing weather), and lube the release before winter gets here.

Im searching for a spare enkei wheel which has proven very difficult or very expensive. Found one the looks like the clear coat is melting off of and the guy wants $150 with no center cap. Might just opt for a steel one at this point.

Started my TB up and got a code, didn't do any kind of work on it:

P1336 = camshaft position sensor system variation not learned....?

May have to disconnect battery and see what happens

Went to go out earlier and got the nice, click, click, click and stuck key. Backed in so had to link 3 sets of jumper cables to reach the Jetta, going to wait and see if the battery drains in the next few hours.

Also heard a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel, its only in one area when the wheels are turned to the right. Going to have to climb under the truck while someones turns the wheel to see if I can diagnose this.

Other than that, I set up torque on an old phone and had some good numbers. 63 ambient, IAT 73, Trans 189 max read, coolant 197 and speedo is off by about 1.4 MPH.

Finally got the bilstiens in! But how much air pressure should I put in my tires? The alignment place put 40 in all four and it seems a little too rough.

that is totally up to you on how you like the ride. I think factory numbers are around 32, I run 38 on the road and alot less offroad:wink:

Run a chalk test and see where the wear pattern is right without sacraficing ride quality.

I just put Bilstiens on and run around 35. I found they took awhile to break the new suspension in because it rides not as harsh after some miles.

Apparently there's like 3 different official pressures depending on if you look at the placard, the manual, or what came from the factory. The numbers in my head are 30 for the front, 35 for the rear. I run 42 all the way around. I accidentally filled them to 60 one time (make sure your compressor is set to PSI lol) and I actually loved it. But maybe it's because my shocks are going or something. I need to upgrade to this kit: TBSSowners.com Store - NORCAL SS CUSTOM TBSS KIT 0-2 FRONT/1.5 REAR (Powered by CubeCart) or at least I think that's the one. Of course I've never done suspensions before so that's a little intimidating.

Thats terrifying if they were standard tires, most have a max PSI of like 44-48. Although 60 was perfect in my generals, the Pirellis I run at around 38. It took some getting used to with the softer sidewalls. Also keep an eye on them because you can wear the tread more in the center than the outside and will result in less tire life, this happened with my old Fuzions, running at 42PSI.
