Welded on the extension pipe and put the new exhaust tip on. I got about 3 good tack welds on to make sure it was steady, will go back tomorrow and finish putting a bead around it.

Filled it up with some 92 and drove it the 65 miles to work. Wish I made a bunch more money and could afford to drive it everyday, cause it is so much more fun to drive. Rolling through the tight downtown streets with 35s and the stereo up...I am pretty sure people were moving out of my way, cause it was way smoother sailing than in the Impala.

OR were you just rolling over them :raspberry:

All of them need the button to work. The older ones had a smaller uglier handle but still have a button.

We're talking about the Stabilitrak button, not the button needed for shifting.

Hahaha yea love that thing, but i liked the saab before i knew about dirty 30s
Its the rareness of it that gets me lol
Its prolly gunna kick me in the rear end one day but for the most part the internals are identical to the other 5.3s
I like when people look at your truck/car and wonder what it is

Also it'll give me the feeling of driving a european truck and it'll have the upgraded suspension

Except it isn't a European truck except in badge only. Still as American as any other GMT360

You know, having the 5.3 gives you the proper electrical system that you could always throw almost any LS based engine in it later on if you want

Was going to install my new Walker Quiet Flow exhaust....

exhaust2_zps57b71129.jpg

Drove 30 miles home so the exhaust was nice and miserable to work with. Hit the two front bolts with some PB Blaster and they loosened right up with the breaker bar. After 11 years and 189K I was surprised.

Then the ratchet......went to start on the bolt and right away the ratcheting gear broke. WTH. Grabbed the shorter ratchet......CRACK! Seriously.....WTF.

Both 3/8 ratchets out of commission and I wasn't even laying into them....Sears better hook me up tomorrow.

At this point I figured it's a sign to retire for the evening, I could get them off but I trust my instincts.

Then I figured I would look at what I have to make an oil catch can.

Catchcan1_zpsa61c181d.jpg

I picked up the HD Husky water separator based on other peeps using it but I have my doubts on it, may go with a dedicated can...jury is still out. Looks like the drain at the bottom doesn't seal 100%. I know it needs pressure to seal but with vacuum applied it may be problematic. I could still blow air past the seal let alone the check valve.

Mcmaster Carr had a stout piece of 1/2" ID hose and some 1/4 NPT 45 deg fittings which should be overkill but I like that. Honestly this looks like high pressure hydraulic hose let alone some reinforced marine hose, but still rather flexible.

hose1_zpsf5d57500.jpg

Hose2_zpsc60006ac.jpg

So basically I did nothing more than tease her with some goodies.

Exactly what i want european styling with american power and pricing (including part prices)
And another reason im going with a 5.3
I wanna throw a LQ9 in one day if my engine goes... Or really go crazy and go LS7 or LSX if i can
Hopefully in the future i'll be making enough to make it a project truck like cone

Its very tempting to go with the aero though...
A 2008 aero from a private dealer with 112,000kms is 14,500
A 2008 9-7x 5.3 from a gm dealer with 70,000kms is 14,500
A 2007 5.3 from a private dealer with 135,000 is $8500

Honestly if it was be I'd probably go with the 07, the 6 grand saved could pay for an LQ9 block, having it rebuilt if you're not comfortable doing it yourself, and a trans refresh with some upgraded parts. You'd have essentially a brand new drive train IF the motor ever gives out, and it'll be right around the same power as the Aero, more if you build it right.

Lug nuts loosened.
Voy front end up on stands.
Wheels off.
The new brake pads don't look that big.
Line them up and they're an inch and a half short.
ARGHHHHHH I ordered rear pads :hissyfit::uhno::compu-punch::explode::bonk::banghead:

Won't be doing front brakes this week. Ordered the correct ones from Rock Auto, now have to ship the wrong ones back. Guess I'll go clean the garage.

Very good point, i just want to have this truck for a while hahaha i've been through 2 trucks in less than a year and its starting to hurt my wallet and bank account :rotfl:
I think this one is gunna stay with me for a while and become a project truck in the future
I bought my voy because it was $4000 and i wanted a GM instead of my POS toyota rav4 :raspberry: i dont regret it one bit but its time to pay some real money for a truck with low kms that i can maintain from the get go so i know all the upgrades i put in are gunna last and be worth it

First thing im gunna do when i get a 5.3 is get dod disabled with a tune and then either get a new exhaust system or cut the resonator off or both lol

Finished welding the extension pipe where I cut off the resonator, not all that professional but shes sealed and holding good. I'm happy with it.

Also gave the truck a much needed bath.

Added a picture of the new tip. Think I will stick with bolt on ones for now. Then I can change it if I want to.

Im making a heat shield around the turbo, and I decided I will be cutting the hood up in 4 spots  haha photoshop pics to follow! (need to get rid of a lot of heat from under there)

View attachment 30432

This is the VERY rough draft of what it will look like. the shapes will all be a lot smoother and rounded. I am wenting the wastegates, the turbo, the intake and the bov (just because I love that sound)

Put my stock mirrors back on... SOOOO boring!!!

20130831_135429_zps42e8420c.jpg

Why you ask? (well, you probably didn't, but I'm gonna tell you anyway...) I took my switchbacks out to sell them, and when removing the screw from the driver's side lens, the mounting post snapped off from the housing. The stock mirrors have a couple of braces on either side of the post to the mirror housing so you don't torque it off, like how this happened. :hopeless:

So I'm gonna try to epoxy that back in place. Since I've got them off the truck, I might as well try to fix the paint job, and respray them, so this is how they are looking at the moment... :quiverlips:

Did the oil change and tire rotation today and ordered white LED lights for the license plate and reverse lights as well as amber LEDs for the side mirror turn indicators. Next week water pump t-stat and fan clutch wire harness gets replaced. Getting my "third child" ready for school I guess

Back in April or May I ordered and received an Avalanche third brake light assembly. Finally have started putting some thought into installing it. Carefully read Blckshdw's write-up. Now to dig out some stranded wire, connectors, heat shrink and what not.

Fairly easy install and it makes a huge difference on the trucks.

Dude that will look badass with functional vents in the hood like your pic shows  AWESOME

Thank you! I hope so. I will be using a black steel mesh where the cuts are. The turbo should have plenty of venting now, the intake should get cooler air, and the blow off valve...well that is just to make it louder haha not gunna lie.

....who needs that anyway... what about a block off plate?
I wonder if I would get a CEL if I put a block off plate on. Or would it affect the air pump?

true you might get a code. I deleted that system, but before I did I ran the block off and disconnected the fuses for the pump. Limequat tuned my pcm to not report those codes.

Sanded down and resprayed my mirrors. Trying to get the color matching to match better than it did before (a few shades too dark) I didn't have much color match paint left, only enough for 1 coat (barely). I think it looks close enough, gonna clear them tomorrow and see if I can get em nice and shiny.

Changed the oil. I switched from Royal Purple to Mobil 1. Still doing 10k intervals, but saved about $50.

I changed the oil in the diffs and fluid in the transfer case (no metal shavings:dance:). Also changed the spark plugs with delco's and found a little oil down in the valley's on two of them. Not on the firing pin but on the threads of the plugs. Not freaking out about it, but guessing I'm gonna have to handle it sooner or later.

I love the way the tinted glass picks up clouds.

washed off the AT fluid that sprayed all over

also updated the tires, put a set of Firestone Destination LE on.

previous tires were going on 6 yrs old, had plenty of tread, but made noise due to bad shocks eating into the inside edge. last straw was a bad set of cracking between the treads.

changed the over ten year old original spare too, but had then put the cheapest tire they had for the spare.
