My love for my gmt is fading away... while cruising to the gym today, the beaSSt developed what we hope to be a top end knock... she knocks at idle, while parked, and the knock increases in rpm's... so back to the dealer she went... they already tore apart the top end as they believe its definetly in the heads.. more like a loose rocker... the crate motor only has 470 miles on it and I haven't even filled up the gas tank 2 times... she is completely stock all yhe way down to the paper air filter, I've followed the crate motor manual for break in procedures and I haven't taken her over 70mph... so I'm beyong pissed and fed up at this point.. I love my truck, but enough is enough...

The only reassuring thing so far is the service manager had an awd SS that had a crate motor put in at 44k miles and his knocked just like mine does now... his was a loose rocker, they fixed it, and now at 80k miles and a new owner (who lives by me btw) its running as strong as the first motor...so fingers crossed.. but in the mean time.. I think reality is here... its time to cut ties with the beaSSt...

:duh: Aparently, I spoke to soon!

Wish I had your luck... got the call today and its not lookin to good

Sucks man, things are not going well. I was thinking last night that I must be pretty lucky. I would much rather have transmission issues especially knowing that I'm dumping it when the warranty is over for a better one but rod knocks and spun bearings that's what nightmares are made of. I think my biggest engine related fix is I'm going to need some new motor mounts soon. Hopefully it stays that way KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!

i didnt do it today but i did it yesterday.... oil change and air filter change. i need to do the tb cleaning on it. also last week i got just one side of my envoy's pinstripe removed. need to get the other side done. the glue even with goo gone takes some elbow grease and time to get off. the stripe itself comes off no problem with a blade.

i'm right there with you man... I would much rather deal with a tranny as well.. I can afford the $2500 RPM/FLT/Phoenix built transmissions all day... but a $10,000 motor rebuild, then another $5,000 to forge it or stroke it out... yea that I can't do lol... well later on down the road I was... but not this soon...

Im not saying you should but wouldnt it be a shame if your engine or door switches caught on fire and insurance had to buy you a new tbss
Or someone stole it

not enough or too much?? all I know is, its well over $10k for a built motor... plus I'd have to pay for the labor as well since I don't know a thing about installing internal components, torque specs, etc... pulling it and dropping it in isn't a problem, but building it is

ever consider carrying the black down the sides of the tb? kinda match it across with the bumpers....?

More times than you can count. I even bought a gallon of Monstaliner for it, but decided I liked the cleaner look after seeing it photoshopped and done in plastidip.

It makes it look too grand cherokee and if you do the flares as well it looks like a regular cherokee.

Plus I have a dark red 07 at the house with herculiner on the lower part and the flares. I like my cleaner look.

assuming that the bearing has spun enough to destroy the crank and rod:

ARP head & rod bolts, $200
stock ls2 crankshaft $400
stock ls2 connecting rod $80
Full Gasket Set, Piston Rings, Pistons, Freeze Plugs, Main and Rod Bearings, Oil Pump, Timing chain kit $800
machine shop labor $800
valve job $200
total cost of a rebuilt shortblock: $2500

forged 402ci rotating assembly is around $1k more

10K is way more than around me for a built motor.

ok maybe we're not thinking on the same terms here... i'm not talking about getting it back to a stock LS2, to me, a built motor is forged internals, bigger cam, heads(L92's or trick flow 225's), intake (Fast LSx or Edlebrock), and all the accessories in supporting mods, FWI, long tube headers, etc...

but great info for getting it back to stock form

Today, it got new radiator hoses (the old ones weren't totally shot, but without the exact maintenance history, might as well change them out), put in a new t-stat (again, worked fine but did leak a small trickle of water when 'closed', normal?), and put in new coolant. This coolant from Amsoil is such a light yellow I almost can't see it through the reservoir which is also slightly yellow. I don't think that there is any way that a full 13.9 quarts are going to fit. Some sources say 10.8qts, which is what I have so far...

Gold SS wheels anyone?

Also, had my mirror caps done over in sharpie art by an artist friend of mine. Painted the brake calipers red while I had the wheels off.

**Truck looks good! I agree with dmanns though, how you gonna have cool sharpie art on your mirror caps and not get a close-up of 'em?? :hissyfit:

Thanks guys. I like the direction it's going in. I fall in love with it more and more, everyday. Here are some close ups of the caps not installed.

And heres a good shot with the new lights:

Thanks guy! I'm doing my entire hatch in sharpie art until I get a replacement. The lights came from Wal-Mart, and were less than $20.

Thanks for the pics. Mirror covers look sweet and very original . I would like to see pics of your rear hatch when that is complete.

Just a suggestion but if you plan on keeping those headlights for a while you should go get those LED foglights and retrofit them in the crossbar section of the headlight and then black silicone the gaps
I think it would look killer especially at night when you turn them on

Something similar to these

Mike, how do you like that Grant steering wheel? I had my eye on them for a minute, it's pretty low on the mod list at the moment.

I like mine (mostly). I must admit it looks damn great in my eyes!! Shopped around a while and found it for like 110. (Don't ask what site, it's been a year). Things I don't like: **sometimes I find myself having a hard time getting my hands comfy, hard to find a sweet spot for gripping if ya know what I mean.(Maybe I'm weird). **The leather surrounding the GRANT logo near the bottom of the wheel is a little ashy, but if you keep it armor-alled consistently that's a non-issue. **And lastly, GRANT has a program where they will buy your OEM wheel for $40, I figured what the hell, well a year later and all kinds of emails, those buttholes have stolen my OEM wheel, I never saw no $40 check, grrrrrrrr!

New Continental LX20 tires are a dream so far(mostly cause they're new)but, with new tires you either hate them, love them or can't tell the difference from the start.Only downer is that one of my TPMS sensors shit the bed and the system would not relearn.I was going to get new ones in advance of the new tires, due to the life span being already exceeded but, noooo! I went on the cheap :hissyfit: and now I have a picture of a tire in my DIC to taunt me.
Anyway,I bought 4 new AC sensors on Amazon and when they come in,the tire place will install them NC.......Mike.
PS I know they could have damaged a sensor in the process but, they were over due anyway so I didn't make any accusations.

Lets see, Thursday I installed the new components speaker system. I am happy it, just feel like I lost all midbass though. Thankfully my HU has a feature that only sends selected frequencies to the rear. 50hz-1000hz, it gave some midbass back :wootwoot:. They were cheap so I cannot complain too much.

Today I got the rear half of the lift done, new sway bar endlinks, bushings and the BDS shocks. Very happy with just the change in the rear. Oh yeah and wheel spacers . Hopefully tomorrow I can complete the front end rebuild and be fully lifted. My only issue today was the damn Delco endlinks, removal was a PITA for both sides as the allen hole rounded out and left me with the decision to cut. Worked fine on passenger side, driver side though. Sawzaw cut the shank for the ball and was to big to fit through, so an hour with a die grinder. The Deeza endlinks are pretty sweet.

PS this -> Craftsman Universal Sockets: Multiple Fasteners, Serious Grip at Sears <- made removal of the bottom sides which cooperate a freaking breeze.

Yea.... I was pretty rattled by it lol i've beat a 2010 malibu, 2 ford fusions, a 2005 nissan pathfinder, a 2001-2002 porsche, and a couple angry mothers in mini vans lol but it HAD to be a kia .... At least i wasnt beat by a elantra like harmless was in his SS :raspberry:
But i really hope that guy in the kia thought i was an SS so he trys to race a real one and gets his ass handed to him

Hahaha stock is 275hp plus the 15-20hp for the 91 octane tune and a 10-20 hp for highflow cat and magnaflow muffler
So im around 300hp more or less lol
06 + has 291hp stock on the 4.2

(Of course this is only what the brochure says :rotfl:)

Would love to pay the $5000 for the STS turbo the shop that tuned my truck wanted to put in but im scared with 222,000kms on the clock that putting the $5Gs + trading my voy towards an SS would be a smarter more reliable choice (+bolt on mods for the SS are a huuuuge plus)
