Got the Voy an oil change. While on the hoist, found the reason for a loud clunk on the weekend. A busted front passenger end link. Good thing for a lifetime warranty.

i took the beaSSt to the track today... I couldn't race her due to the break in period on my crate motor still... but once I started her up, I happened to look down, and the weirdest thing happened...

coincidence??? freakin awesome if you ask me...

I buy two new tires and save the good one left from the axle as a spare when the next flat comes. Never has and I've gained a couple hundred bucks over the past few years from reselling the lone tire online. Beats paying them a few bucks to take a tire they might resell anyways.

I'd also be concerned of tread depths all around for 4wd.

That's a good idea about the resell, was contemplating adding another for the RR but the 4WD had me thinking as well. I made a typo earlier, tread difference is 3/32 so prob won't be an issue L to R.

I did this yesterday:

Obviously the hatch got the most of it, but the tail light broke, and there's a crack in the bumper, as well as a few of the mounting points broken. I see an ss rear bumper in my future.

First timer...

Started last weekend and almost finished up today. I have like 15-20 hour invested. Just got this ride for the deal from someone who thought maintenance meant changing the oil. It only has 60k and have a few of them in the family so I could see through the forest. She's gonna be great when done....

I changed
Mode door actuator and passenger blend actuator. (New battery)
Water pump
Ect sensor
Both tensioners
Cleaned tb inside out
Sway bar end links (front)
Drank some beer
Both 02 sensors
Catalytic converter (man that cross member under the trans was horrible):hissyfit:

After all that I was time to address the exhaust manifold. It had three or four loose bolts up front and the head popped off number six. I could see it was sticking out still so I figured some pb and vise grips would handle that business. WRONG. I was twisting so gently and was happy to see it coming I almost started dancing. Then realized thats not enough bolt? There is like an inch left in there...... I said screw this noise and called my guy to come get it with the tow truck. He will handle this part. I'm beatin, bruised, bloody and tired from wrestling with the cat.

Anyway thanks for all the awesome post on this site and the other one. It really helped me out.

My cat plugged, but fortunately for me it was when I had my body lift on. Remove nuts, rotate cat 180 degrees, and it came right out. My real problem was with the Craftsman tools I was using for the nuts on the exhaust manifold.

Today, I put Amsoil back in.

So today the first thing I did was go wash the TB!!!! It was covered in Mudd!!! Of course after 2 coffees :coffee: :coffee: and some down time ....lol... Then i went to the parts store for some replacement light bulbs.

Took the steering wheel apart to get the buttons out....found out the parts store gave me the wrong bulbs....so I put the steering wheel back together :hissyfit:.. Good practise for later!!!!!

Replaced a turn signal bulb on the driver side marker light - took the grill off and the head light assembley apart.

My Rear door gate was no longer locking....Took the back gate apart, took out the locking mechanism and cleaned and freed up the locking arm. The pin that it pivots on was rusted solid. sanded the parts, alternately used wd40 and fluid film in between cleaning / drying and freeing up / force moving the arm. Now my gate locks and works perfectly:wootwoot:. This took about 3 hours of lubricating and cleaning and manually moving the lock mechanism.

So now I gotta figure out what type of bulbs are needed for the steering wheel buttons so I can do that again.

A good day though...I haven't had the time lately to do anything to the TB. I am looking at a back up camera and some sort of aux back up lighting that I can turn on/off as well as be actuated when put in reverse, next.

Paid a guy I work with $10 for a SS shifter :wootwoot: he had in his 08 TB LT (deracked with SS bumpers and rims). He sold it to a dealer with less than 3,000 miles on it

My love for my gmt is fading away... while cruising to the gym today, the beaSSt developed what we hope to be a top end knock... she knocks at idle, while parked, and the knock increases in rpm's... so back to the dealer she went... they already tore apart the top end as they believe its definetly in the heads.. more like a loose rocker... the crate motor only has 470 miles on it and I haven't even filled up the gas tank 2 times... she is completely stock all yhe way down to the paper air filter, I've followed the crate motor manual for break in procedures and I haven't taken her over 70mph... so I'm beyong pissed and fed up at this point.. I love my truck, but enough is enough...

The only reassuring thing so far is the service manager had an awd SS that had a crate motor put in at 44k miles and his knocked just like mine does now... his was a loose rocker, they fixed it, and now at 80k miles and a new owner (who lives by me btw) its running as strong as the first motor...so fingers crossed.. but in the mean time.. I think reality is here... its time to cut ties with the beaSSt...

I backed into my plow truck (1978 dodge power wagon). Of course my $500 plow truck did over $500 in damage haha. It was way to early for me to be driving, and I had to much on my mind. I'm over it now, just gonna fix it little by little. Ordered the ss rear bumper, and the hatch I'm going to make into sharpie art for now until I fix it.

Man sounds like you have the worst luck or quality control at GM has gone down hill. Hopefully it is a quick fix so you can get that beast to the track

If there is a bright side to this, you at least have a reason to get the SS rear bumper. Now you just need to bump something with the front bumper to have reason to repalce it with an SS bumper :rotfl:

Some people do not understand that preventive maintenance and corrective/reactive maintenance are tied together. Parts/fluids have a life span and if not taken care of properly, it can lead more issues down the road. It is surprising how many people think that if they change their oil every 3,000 miles, their vehicle will run forever.

By the way, Welcome to the Nation!

Ordered Akebono pads and ACDelco rotors for the Voy's front brakes at Rock Auto.

I forget who posted the discount code, but I remembered it, searched for it, found it and saved a few $$$. THANKS!

what is it with our trucks man lol... and I have no choice but to DD the Prix... its all I got now :rotfl:... but no worries... no Mazda's for me... that idea has been long gone... I was looking at Camaro's and test drove 2 of them, and I sat in some Vette's... but I might just get out of the car game all together and just focus on my career... by selling the SS, I will have enough to pay off the loan and my credit card and just bank all that money every month allowing me to quit my lame ass job that I have now, and get an entry level position somewhere else and still have enough to pay bills... so its a toss up...

TexazReece said:
Damn dude that sucks man I hope that will fix the knocking. I thought the new engine would be the end....

that's what we all thought... I didn't mean to do it because I know its not the dealers fault, but I pulled in RASING HELL :hissyfit::hissyfit:.. when they came to say hi to me and asked me what I was doing there, my exact response was "don't you fu#!&in hear it knocking!!!" its not looking good though.. details below...

I think its a little of both... but alas, I am not the only one going through this... ive been in contact with some guys from ssowners who are actual GM techs at dealerships in their respective cities, and there is a guy in MI that has gone through 3 motors as well... just installed his crate motor and only 1900 miles on it, it started overheating on him, and turns out that it just failed a block test... he has a "crate motor" too... the other dealership that I took my truck to get the tranny looked at while under warranty, has an SS in their service bay getting a motor swap as well... the wait list is 6 months for his crate motor... something is definitely going on with GM and their motors here...

20130816_073016_zpsdffb2294.jpg

well played sir :tiphat:

and onto what I did to my GMT today... I called the dealer to see what was up because my father informed me that they already took it in yesterday and tore apart the top end (very grateful for that since I just show up out of nowhere and they kick a car out of the bay to get mine in there spur of the moment) and its not looking pretty... they took off the valve covers to inspect the rockers, etc... and nothing is wrong there... so now theyre thinking its a collapsed or dead lifter... I found this on LS1tech.com and this is exactly whats happening to mine...

The ticking sound you hear is not the lifter itself. It is the valve slamming closed, missing the closing ramp and smacking the seat. Very common misconception that makes me bite my tongue everytime I hear someone call it a ticking lifter. A ticking sound at idle and then progressively quieter with increased engine speed is a "spongy" lifter/lash adjuster. This is result of trapped air in the lifter or fast leak down time. A collapsed lifter means the leakdown plunger inside the lifter is stuck down and the lifter is not functioning at all. This condition will cause very loud tick at idle to that increases with rpm.

hopefully that is it... because if it calls for a complete tear down again for a spun bearing, I will be cutting ties with the beaSSt...

Changed my TC fluid today. I checked it yesterday in preparation for the change today, glad I decided to change it given the fluid was...

NEON YELLOW/GREEN!!!!! (The picture is a little deceiving since the old fluid and the overflowing new stuff mixed, making the old stuff look darker than it really was) But, it's OK now that there's genuine AutoTrak2 in there.

Drove through a torrential downpour last week... usually i would drive my work van but i was going on a date :/ fwi + street drags + deep puddles = D:

Anyway since then my tc has been fully locking past 5 mph, turns out i managed to get water into the weatherproof relays in the 4l80 conversion harness... I'm dumbfounded but oh well as long as i don't have to drop the tranny I'm happy

What year is the silver SS? Is it completely stock? Looks very clean and the black wheels going well with silver. Whats the plan for the Voy, keep it or sell it?

I just found it on google lol but i was playing with photoshop and blacked out the lower bumper between the vent things to make it look more sporty (which i plan to do on my ss)
But i plan on selling the voy for around $5000 hopefully more

Since the TBSS already look sweet on the outside, you can spend most of your cash on performance mods

Are you planning on selling those sweet SS wheels?

Haha i've only had experience with metallic silver and after i touched up and wet sanded i couldnt see anything and you dont see fine scratches like black. Maybe on the bigger fixes its not as good
But minor work from what i've seen is a lot easier than black

Hahaha when the time comes we'll see :raspberry:
But yea its gunna only be minor exterior mods (antenna delete, powder coat rims, black out the centre part of the bumper like in the pic, and tinted tails.) prolly some other stuff too but not pricey other than powder coating.
But yea i wanna get a lot of bolt on parts and tranny upgrades

Heres a rear pic of the silver tbss, photoshopped to my liking lol

Looks sweet. I would tint the front windows and maybe upgrade to some LED tailights. I believe BoTieSS has the same IPCW bermuda black tails that I have and they look sweet on his since he used Night Shade on them. I have yet to bring myself to Night Shade my tails or 3rd brake light. If I could get a glossy finish then I might. I did night shade my rear reflectors, but they do not have a glossy finish to them.

Throw a couple coats of clear on them and they'll be nice and shiny and give them a little bit of a wet sand and they'll be nice and smooth

Heres what mine look like, 3 light coats of VHT and 3 coats of krylon triple thick clear, then wet sanded

(Top is blurry cause it was a filter i was using)

Had a BBQ today with the sounds community we have on the island. Real tight knit group, we all get together either at car shows and about twice a year for BBQ's. One of my friends has a TBSS and took these pics of our cars lol.
