To pull or not to pull that is the question
Drop the side molding and roof rack.

Ryda55555 said:Hahahaha kinda wanna keep the roof rack incase i need to put the bars back on if i need them, plus i dont really like the bolt heads sticking out of my roof
But i think i might do the moulding tomorrow
dmanns67 said:Bolt heads look horrible. If your side molding is in good condition, you can use that to cover the bolt holes. Keeps the truck clean and saves from going to a body shop to get the holes ground down, filled, and roof repainted.
Ryda55555 said:Thats true, but i think i'd rather use body filler and touchup paint than mouldings on my roof i promised myself after i got a new truck not to half ass jobs like my first car
dmanns67 said:Without the set screws in, the holes still stick up about an 1/8" (at least on my TB) which is what drove me crazy the first time I took the roof rack off. I ended up putting it back on until I seen a member on the OS with the side molding idea. It actually looks good IMO when the time is taken to do it right.

gives it a "studded" look to it. idk...just one of my querks I guess
Ryda55555 said:Haha to each his own im trying to keep everything clean and smooth flowing but thats just me, i know a lot of people like the rugged look especially the off roaders hahah
Who knows, i might actually like it but dont realize it yet lol

Gibson tip
dmanns67 said:Finally got around to color matching the mirror covers. I spent hours sanding to get these things perfectly smooth, but they do not have the mirror shine I was going for. I think I will have to try a different clear coat.

Also played around with Plasti Dip and dipped my intake tubing that replaces the intake resonator.

Sparky said:Been doing some more fiberglass research and also paint searches. Darn you GM and your weird paint codes that no one can match. code 9539 is medium green according to everyone else, but you have it labeled Forest Green on my truck, and it is darker than medium green. Makes it so hard to find stuff that will match
fr34kout said:I'm still curious, what are you trying to fiberglass?
fr34kout said:I see, so how are you planning on attaching the fiberglass to the metal? I was under the impression that even with the best prep work, fiberglass *may* adhere to the metal but it won't stay there for very long. I could be wrong, just never heard of people patching metal with fg. Even when I was shaving my bumper I wanted to use fg and I was told that it wouldn't bond to the plastic well. Hopefully you can get it to work out for you though if that's the route you decide to go.
As for the paint, do you have a Napa Red Line near you? I know they can mix paint in small batches and maybe you can see if they can use your paint code to make a matching color.

But they remind me a lot of vossen cv3s
They could look very nice on the right gmt
Yup, got my prep solvent, adhesion promotor, base coat and clear from them. Matches the rest of the truck flawlessly imo. Several people didn't believe me at,first when I said I painted it in my barn at homedmanns67;143975 said:Yeah thats what I was thinking. I already wet sanded the clear with 2500 grit just to smooth it out. I put 5 coats of clear to make sure I would not burn through to the paint. The finish looks great, but the shine is not there yet.
I will be getting a new grille soon that I will have to paint. If I dont get the shine I will strip the clear and try some from www.automotivetouchup.com. That is where you got your clear right?
