Bolt heads look horrible. If your side molding is in good condition, you can use that to cover the bolt holes. Keeps the truck clean and saves from going to a body shop to get the holes ground down, filled, and roof repainted.

Thats true, but i think i'd rather use body filler and touchup paint than mouldings on my roof :rotfl: i promised myself after i got a new truck not to half ass jobs like my first car

Without the set screws in, the holes still stick up about an 1/8" (at least on my TB) which is what drove me crazy the first time I took the roof rack off. I ended up putting it back on until I seen a member on the OS with the side molding idea. It actually looks good IMO when the time is taken to do it right.

I might have to look into that some more, thanks

true true
I'm not really into the off-road scene tbh, but I like a balance between smooth&clean and rough&rugged

I used set screws to fill mine. Yea it's still raised about 1/8" like mentioned, but this literally bothered me for less than a week and I'm anal about how my truck looks. After a while I stopped noticing it.

Finally got around to color matching the mirror covers. I spent hours sanding to get these things perfectly smooth, but they do not have the mirror shine I was going for. I think I will have to try a different clear coat.

View attachment 28739

Also played around with Plasti Dip and dipped my intake tubing that replaces the intake resonator.

Picked up some early Fathers Day goodies for it.

Think a lash adjuster may be sticking but picked one up just in case.

give it a few days, 2k wet sand, and get down with some rubbing compound. Then decide if you still don't like the finish :jawdrop2: <---- that was the difference when I done mine hahaha

If that doesnt work try krylon triple thick glaze, thats what i used and its like glass but you see every piece of sand, stone and bug on it

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I already wet sanded the clear with 2500 grit just to smooth it out. I put 5 coats of clear to make sure I would not burn through to the paint. The finish looks great, but the shine is not there yet.

I will be getting a new grille soon that I will have to paint. If I dont get the shine I will strip the clear and try some from www.automotivetouchup.com. That is where you got your clear right?

Been doing some more fiberglass research and also paint searches. Darn you GM and your weird paint codes that no one can match. code 9539 is medium green according to everyone else, but you have it labeled Forest Green on my truck, and it is darker than medium green. Makes it so hard to find stuff that will match :hissyfit:

I'm still curious, what are you trying to fiberglass?

Body work. Cut out rusted metal remains on the wheel wells and use fiberglass to rebuild. It wouldn't be perfect but it would stall the rust for a little while. I'd two tone along the lower part with black so the paint there isn't a big deal, but I have spots above the black area that also need attention and that's where I need the proper color paint that is eluding me.

I see, so how are you planning on attaching the fiberglass to the metal? I was under the impression that even with the best prep work, fiberglass *may* adhere to the metal but it won't stay there for very long. I could be wrong, just never heard of people patching metal with fg. Even when I was shaving my bumper I wanted to use fg and I was told that it wouldn't bond to the plastic well. Hopefully you can get it to work out for you though if that's the route you decide to go.

As for the paint, do you have a Napa Red Line near you? I know they can mix paint in small batches and maybe you can see if they can use your paint code to make a matching color.

Yeah I've heard both ways, it will work for a few years or it won't work at all. I really don't know what to do. I don't want to spend a lot on it since it is too far gone and too old/high miles to be worth spending the money it would take to fully fix it. Just want to buy some time for cheap if I can I guess.

I wish I had a welder and some know-how. No place to store a welder to even start learning with.

Found these rims online called dub ballers, the smallest size is 22x9.5 and have the 6x5.5 pattern (so adapters are needed)
But they remind me a lot of vossen cv3s
They could look very nice on the right gmt

I'm sorry... I apologize... Just a disclaimer for all I'm about to say. I hope no one on this forum owns either one of those vehicles. Both of them look idiotic. If your vehicle is riding in a perfectly straight line, for the entire life of the vehicle, AWESOME. Those wheel/tire combos look like they avoid corners, like an anorexic avoids food. All they are missing is the El Jefe fake chrome sticker plate... And all the rest of the stick on chrome at Auto-Zone...

Yup, got my prep solvent, adhesion promotor, base coat and clear from them. Matches the rest of the truck flawlessly imo. Several people didn't believe me at,first when I said I painted it in my barn at home :raspberry:
What kind of grille are you getting?

well...other than the "rubber bands" on them, I like them
they somewhat remind me of the SS rims, but I >>>HATE<<< when people put tiny ass tires on rims.:suicide:
with some better tires, I think they'd look good on my tb, honestly
the denali would look good with bigger tires, the silverado, I'm just not a fan of that look on that truck...but everyone has their own taste
