Nah it's not the companies fault, like I said it was due to incompetent workers are my local store.
The first time I went in to buy my lifetime alignment I asked if they work on dropped cars and they said yes so I thought perfect. This was right after I did my first 2" drop, DJM A Arms up front with drop strut mounts, and bag adjustments in the back.
Went in, got the alignment, and when they gave me the papers back they said they couldn't adjust the caster. They showed me a diagram and said that there was a cam on the upper control arm that is used to adjust caster and since I replaced the upper control arms the new ones didn't have that cam they couldn't adjust it. I told the guy that I changed the control arms myself, and that piece was never on the stock arms to begin with. He told me not to worry about it, it wouldn't affect tire wear so I went home.
When I got home, I was looking through the papers again and noticed that on the front the alignment page said it was done for a 2008 Yukon Denali...... I called up firestone and told them I'm the guy that just came in for alignment and you were telling me why they couldn't adjust caster. I told him I just saw on the front page that it says 2008 Yukon Denali, but my car is an Envoy Denali. The guy said yea the process is the same for both cars. I didn't quite believe him, but he assured me that it was the same for both cars.
I didn't even bother to look it up until a few weeks later when I was bored at home. I found out that the caster adjustment was on the lower control arm, not the upper control arm. So a few months later when I went back to have them do the alignment correctly, I found the info on the OS and wrote everything down. When I say I wrote everything down, I mean I listed every specification (Caster, Camber, Toe, Cross Toe, EVERYTHING) with the value range that is acceptable. I then also wrote the process for adjusting caster, where the bolts were located, which way to move the LCA, and even the torque specs of the bolts.
When I went back in, I talked to the same manager at the counter that I had spoken to on my last visit, as well as the same guy who told me on the phone that the process was the same for both vehicles. I explained to him that the last time I came in they did the alignment for a YUKON, but I had an ENVOY. I showed him the paper that I wrote all the information on in case the guy still couldn't figure out how to adjust the caster, and made sure to reiterate that my truck is an envoy.
After dropping it off me and 2 of my friends went to grab lunch nearby and then came back about an hour later. After my truck was finished, I went up to the counter to see red in the caster box once again. I looked up at the top of the page, and yet again it said 2008 Yukon Denali. I told the guy once again that the alignment was performed incorrectly and that the mechanic needed to redo it for an Envoy Denali.
After I went outside, the manager told the mechanic to come talk to me. I told him that my truck is an Envoy not a Yukon. He told me I was WRONG. He told me look at the side of your car, do you see where it says Denali? You have a Yukon Denali. I told him Denali is not the fucking model of car, it is the top trim for GMC. I said yes I have a Denali, but I have an ENVOY Denali. They are two completely different trucks, mine is a mid sized SUV and a Yukon is a full sized SUV, how the hell do you not know the difference? I literally had to argue with him to get him to back down from telling me what kind of car I was driving. Finally he asked me to write down what model it was. I grabbed the paperwork he was holding in his hand and flipped to the job sheet that the manager printed out where it clearly said Envoy Denali under vehicle.
Then I had to tell him that I wrote you down instructions. I told him where the bolts were located, which way to move the arms, and the torque specs. He didn't seem to think I could possibly know what I was talking about, but he put it back on the lift and I watched him and the manager looking exactly where I told them and pointing at the bolts. So he did the alignment and I went home frustrated.
This wasn't the worst part though. Remember now when I said that the adjustment he was trying to make for my "Yukon" was on one of the bolts on the upper control arm. Exactly 1 week to the day that I got my alignment, I was driving my truck for work. I was going up a hill and approaching a red light at the top. When I hit my brakes, my car pulled hard to the left. I almost ended up in the lane next to me. I immediately put the car in park and got out. I went to check my front left wheel, and I could literally shake / wobble the wheel by hand. I turned the wheel all the way to the right, and I saw one of the bolts for my upper control arm completely gone. Limped it home at about 5-10 mph down the hill.
I didn't even bother to go back, because I knew I would be fucking furious if I was to step foot back into that store. So either the mechanic loosed my upper control arm bolt because he thought he was working on a Yukon, and didn't torque it back down when he finished his alignment or he did it on purpose after I called him out on being a dumbass and made him do my alignment correctly. Either way I probably wouldn't be able to prove it because they were aftermarket parts that I installed myself, even though they had already been on for over 6 months at that point and the one bolt came off 1 week after being worked on by them.
Luckily there was no damage to my truck, and I was able to just buy the bolt from the dealership for ~$8, but if it would have happened on the freeway I could have easily went into another car or a wall. And I was also grateful that it happened to me who works on their own cars so I knew immediately that something was wrong, vs someone that might not know better and just drive it and end up causing a major accident.
So basically that's my story about Firestone. Incorrect alignment twice, arguing with the mechanic over what type of car I drive, and a control arm bolt coming off my car 1 week after getting the alignment nearly causing me to crash. If they could even get my truck onto the rack now I might go to another location to take advantage of my lifetime alignment, but they had enough problems with the 2" drop. I currently go to one of my good friends neighbor's shop who does nothing but alignment and brakes and he specializes in slammed and lifted trucks.
