Even with some gripes with Windows 8.1 (which some I'll admit I just was just being grumpy about) I'd much rather it or even original 8 than Mac. Can't stand those things. Every time I work on one (or have to fix one) they drive me up the wall.

They're trying to drive you over the wall, into the walled garden that is Apple products. Speaking of which, I love Made in America stuff and all but isn't it interesting when people just go on and on day in and day out about it... on their Chinese-produced iPhones and Manufactured-In-Random-Asian-Country computers? Just something I was musing about earlier this week.

Yeah, it's been hobbling along for a while now, been itching for an excuse to get off this dual core for a hot minute. Was gonna put an SSD in it,
I don't see SSD as primary-drive material yet. Good for things that are mainly read-only, like making Windows load in 5 seconds or for use as a media drive for things that will stay. We all know the quirks of how flash drives work and why they have failed cells over time, I wouldn't trust it for something that would be getting a lot of write cycles myself. But again, short boot times...!!!

 I have SSDs as boot drives in my PC and HTPC, so I've gotten rather spoiled by the boot times, and those don't get rebooted very often. So it's a royal pain waiting for my 5400rpm 300GB drive to boot up. :hopeless: For the most part my laptop doesn't do much heavy lifting. Mostly network related and internet stuff, so I wouldn't be too upset if the drive crashed. Worst case I have to sit through a windows reinstall and a resync of my Google drive content. :compu-punch:

Windows ME = Windows Migraine Edition

Seriously, for all the grief that people gave Vista and 8, neither held a candle to how terrible ME was. I think they made it while drunk after a year 2000 party.

Biggest windows 8.1 let down for me so far is windows easy transfer being in the middle of getting phased out. Now you can only transfer files via a remote USB source such as a hard drive or large flash drive which I don't have. I was excited about how "easy" it was going to be via network transfer through the WET program until I spent about an hour on the new laptop trying to get it to connect to the old one.

They're pushing you to store all your personal data with them! So easy!

Yeah... screw that. MY data, on MY computer.

I was planning to build a raid setup soon for some redundant storage, but hadn't budgeted on splurging on a new laptop. (which was delivered an hour ago, even though my order is still listed as being packed for shipping :hopeless:)

I'm just now starting to notice a few of little things. I bought a 12 cell battery for my last one, which caused it to sit on an incline which I liked. I also had 3 power bricks for it. 1 at work, 1 at home, and 1 in my laptop bag. Gonna have to see if I can find some cheap ones on Ebay. I was a little annoyed that there was no scroll zone on the side of the touchpad, then I stumbled on the 2 finger (tablet/phone based) scroll. Not bad, not bad at all, I like that feature. :undecided:

Hatchet's pic hit the nail on the head for me. I was planning to hold out on upgrading until Windows 9, or whatever they decided to call it. Guess that can't be helped at this point.

Hopefully no one will give me any work to do this afternoon so I can poke around and get familiar with my new toy. :deal:

Picking maters and monitoring one of my chickens that started sitting on eggs. Boy, she's hateful but I gotta check every couple hours and take the new eggs out.

Packing up to take the wife n kids camping for the weekend. I cancelled it last weekend because of the starter issues but thats fixed now. Wife's brother has a trailer parked at a campground up north for the season. Last weekend he towed his hardtop up there for us to use. Works out great cuz now I can tow the utility trailer and not be tight for space. I like to take lots of stuff.....

Worked... and tomorrow... working. Likely a long shift at that, joy! It wouldn't be bad if I wasn't stuck in the same position already all week and with one of the laziest people I've ever met.
