Yep. Some states let you get a non-resident or out of state permit and you can get reciprocity to carry in more states.

Exactly... you (Wink) had to wait to get an "in-state" permit, but you can get a non-resident for quite a few states without living there... I've got a Utah...

Looking for some advice on my 1st pistol. I want a full frame .45 Got to shoot a couple this morning, Ruger P97DC, Ruger P345 and Springfield Armory XD-45 ACP. I can get each for under 400. I am leaning towards the XD, I am just looking for opinions.

Is this going to be for target or home defense, or both?
Are you looking for a composite gun, or steel?
I love my XD-45 4", I normally love Ruger, except in the larger caliber semi-autos. ( Ruger 22 Mk III rocks)

Any of the 1911 versions are also great to start out with. Yes, there are some cheaper copies out there, but I have heard even the Rock Island 1911 is a decent thrower of lead.

If this is your first gun, you also do not want to discard a revolver. Many a fine .357 out there.

Little bit of both i suppose. Ive only shot a couple revolvers. Got to shoot my dads Taurus Judge, was not impressed with it, and my neighbor let me shoot his Colt Python. Great gun, I only wish I could afford one.

You didn't like the Judge  :blinkhuh:  I shot a friends Raging judge and would love to have one for my nightstand. I have a Taurus 605 (small frame .357 snubbie), it's a great little gun, but something like a 608 would be a better bed side gun if you're not going to CC it.

Maybe it was the junk ammo, plus it was the 1st time shooting in a while. Maybe if i shot it with the 410 it may be better. I only shot it with the .45

I shot it with 2.5 and 3" .410, .45 LC and .454 CASULL, I didn't see a need or care for the .45 LC.

Here's a link to the RAGING JUDGE

Put a little time and maybe $200 into my $300 Springfield Mil-Spec, and ended up with something that I'm pretty happy with! Beavertail, hammer, sear, trigger, extended safety, extended mag release, and Hogue grips... All fitted and installed, myself...

What do you guys think about this as a truck gun? I was thinking about getting on in 30-30 because I already have tons of ammo for my Winchester.

I couldn't get used to the collapsible stock on my Benelli M4, so it now wears a Mesa Tactical Urbino stock in coyote brown.

The Aimpoint Micro T-1 is combat-tested and you could drive over it with a truck and not hurt it. (I have.)

This custom 870 is built on a Remington 870 Express Tactical frame, and includes a Knoxx recoil-reducing stock, an S&J Hardware magazine extension and polished chamber, barrel, magazine tube and action bars.

I like to keep my shotguns simple, and I operate under one basic principle when it comes to custom-tuning and accessories:
The more you may need a shotgun in a hurry to save a life, the fewer gadgets and accessories it should have on it.

Here is my special 20" barrel Remington 1100 (with a maximum 5 round magazine capacity to comply with Canadian law) equipped with Trijicon tritium night sights, a 20" barrel Remington 870 Police with a Streamlight TLR-1 light attached, and my new training gun - an 18.5" barrel Remington 870 Marine Magnum XCS in the very rare black Trinyte finish that is almost impervious to extreme weather and salt water. It has a specially tuned action, polished chamber and magazine tube and an XS Big Dot front sight. The complete trigger group has been replaced by a factory Remington police trigger group.

None of them are very pretty. (Like me.) They have lots of dings and wear marks. (Like me.) Aside from the M4, they have a LOT of miles on them. (Like me.)

Is it possible to have too many shotguns?

I got a soft spot for the Saiga 12. One day it will happen.

Just Googled this: complete awesomeness. I am an novice at gun owning but all of mine are for hunting. My dad bought me a Marlin .22 Bolt action when I was 12 and the respect/safety for firearms has been instilled in me from an early age. I now have a 20ga Remington 870 express that I got when I was 15. It has the changeable slug/shot barrels. I liked that so much that I bought the exact same shotgun in black as a 12ga when I turned 18. I also got a Browning 12ga over under when I turned 21. Now at 29 I have those 4 and that's it. Been thinking about getting a .30-06 as we go down to SC and hunt and they are much more lenient with laws down there. I usually just borrow one from a friend when we go down but have been considering getting one of my own. I never really got into hand guns at all, but the CCW is incredibly easy to get here in Ohio so I may do that at some point. Fortunately we live in a relatively safe community and I've never felt the need to carry. As the old saying goes though, you just never know...

I love this thread. I have a Ruger P90 .45 that I carry for concealed carry. I have my TN license but have been thinking about getting some non resident state licenses.

My next gun will probably be an AR-15. Local gun shop has one for 679$, flat top or handle carry, with a telescoping stock.

Absolutely. I need to take my certification for tactical shotgun and heavy rifle first. I got some one with a heavy rifle for me to use for the class (as I dont know what the requirements are needed for the rifle. cause if I buy one now, I might have to buy another after and that would just be awful ) Just need someone with a tactical shotgun, I dont think my old 3 foot barrel single shot qualifies as tactical... lol

What do you need for "tactical" shotgun? May have something or can get you something to borrow.

There is "tactical" which implies solid reliability that you would trust your life and the lives of others to ... and then there is "tacticool" that looks good in photos for less-knowledgeable people to drool over.

If you could borrow a shotgun and take a good course, you will find out right away what works and what doesn't. There are 50,000 accessories for shotguns on the market; most of them you don't need.

The more you might need a shotgun in a hurry to save your life, the fewer gadgets it should have on it. Once you decide on a shotgun, don't modify anything until you have 1000 rounds through it. Then you will have a much better idea of its (and your) limitations and how to solve them.

The BEST accessory you can buy for any good shotgun is 4 cases of shells and a good training course.

Well said. I really would trust my mossy with my life. It is the gun I know the best. I prefer it in the hunting configuration, but did buy some tacticool stuff for it after some drinking and a Rambo marathon.

There is no replacement for actually taking a gun out and using it.

Haven't we ALL, brother!

My handgun mentor was a guy named Rob Leatham and he once told me that one doesn't fear the competition from the guy with the shiny new gun and all the gadgets; one fears competition from the guy with the well-used plain gun with all the bluing worn off from constant drawing from the holster.

Truth is spoken in this quote. My handgun instructor said the same thing.

i dont go for tacticool... If I get job needing shotgun, my life could very well be in each shell in that thing. I used to go hit trap and skeet so I can hit what i'm aiming for. Its the other world scenarios that you cant do any any normal range that I mite be getting tested on. I'm pretty sure accessories they will want on there is extra ammo and maybe a flash light. I think when they say Tactical Shotgun, they mean actual tactics and situations that mite happen...

Kyle, Thanks when i talk to them about the class and what not and what i need. I'll give ya a call.

I am actually pretty impressed by the quality of the Turkish-made shotguns these days. (Charles Daly/Weatherby/Tristar/Hatsan, etc.) I have been eyeing up the SA-459 myself. (Not that it is ever going to replace my M4 of course, which is likely the best tactical shotgun ever made - and with the Aimpoint Micro and Urbino stock, is unquestionably the most expensive tactical shotgun ever made.)

Played with a .338 MRAD w BORS last night. Serial number 41. Amazing piece of hardware.

Also played with a Model 94. 136xxx serial number. That means 1898 and it was brought home on horseback when it was bought. Awesome to handle a piece of history like that.
