Decided on the Springfield XD (Shoutout to Spyw for turning me on to this gun and a great local dealer). Picked it up over lunch today; should have just taken the afternoon off.

No firearm myself, however I was just reading this thread and saw the mention of comfortable concealed holsters, and wanted to share a funny story. My father is a retired NY State Trooper. He worked for 26 years, and when he wasn't on duty, carried most everywhere he went. My senior year in high school I was trying to get into the US Naval Academy, and part of the process is getting an appointment from a Senator or Representative. I went to the Federal Building in Buffalo for my interview, shortly after the Oklahoma City bombing. we walked in and of course set off the detectors. He is so used to carrying he doesn't even think about it, empties his pockets, as i did, and walked back through, of course setting it off again. This time, the guard very calmly said sir, do you have any type of weapon on you? Then it clicked and my dad says, Oh!, yes, I have my gun. The guard dove behind a desk and wouldn't come out until my dad tossed his wallet that has his badge over the counter.

Somehow I still got the appointment.

XD is on my short list for next purchase after some AR parts. I do kinda want a Kahr so it may slide in before the XD if I find a good deal.

I work in injection molding, and we actually mold some AR parts. We make stocks, hand guards and some action block sets in black and green

That's almost as good looking as my XD

Now we just need to get you out to CRAPS so I won't be the only XD9 shooter.

DelTon is a good company for the money. My first rifle was built from a DelTon kit. I suggest getting the mid length upper.

That said, I suggest taking a look at Palmetto State Armory. DelTon will function fine, but palmetto will be a higher quality setup.

Great video, shortbus.

When people ask which is my favorite gun, I tell them the best gun in the world is the one I have in my hand when I need it the most.

My mentor, a competition shooter named Rob Leatham, used to tell me not to fear the man with five shiny racegun pistols with all the accessories; fear the man with one well-used gun with all the blueing worn off from constant drawing from the holster.

It's a Gen 3. I have a Gen 4 23, but I prefer the Gen 3'. The light is a Glock brand light. It was purely an impulse buy. I'd also suggest looking at the sure fire x300.

Didn't want to jack the firearms thread for a specific question. Tis the season to have an excuse to buy cool stuff for me and others. Looking at buying an AR style 223/5.56
My budget is not rock river friendly. But I have looked at 2 mainly so far. Dpms oracle and the bushmasters c15. I know there is a lot of options for builds and just other guns but those are in my range and they are IN STOCK. Which seems to be the hardest part of this purchase. Any have any experience with those? I am not looking for a combat ready arm. This is going to be a bulk fed target gun maybe some coyote MAYBE.

I own two bushmasters works great for what your looking to use it for. I also own Rock River which is far and away a better gun, but I like it so much that I cant get myself to put thousands of rounds through it so thats why I keep the bushmaster around.

Pretty cool little toy, I wonder how many states it is illegal in? Might have to look into it some more.

I'm also looking into buyin an AR sometime soon. As mentioned, I'm planning to use it just for target practice too.

I have an AK Mac90 that I've dressed up, and haven't put a single round through it since purchasing 2 years ago!

Thanks for the info here!
I'll be reading more about them once Im ready to make my purchase, which will probably be within the next month or so...

I thought about that but finding parts in stock and in price range seemed rough. And im just starting my tac rifle collection so I thought complete might be the way first. Cabellas actually has some good entry ARs sitting there called this morning and talked to the gun desk guy for a good 15-20 minutes.

Ah. Well my lower cost $99 plus the stupid DOD fees. Then the parts kit for the lower was another $89.99. Then the magpul stock tactical extended was another $39.00. The mini 10rnd magazine was $5. The handle was $17.00
The complete upper is going to cost me $399-$500.

NCStar stuff is good for looking like you have the real thing. My advice is to save your money and go without or spend a little more and get something more durable. A good weapon light is a lot more than a flashlight strapped to a gun. It has to withstand a lot.

I'd stay away from the Carbon 15. I've never seen an aluminum receiver break, but I can't say the same for the polymer receivers. For that ~$600 budget you have, look at the Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport. The Oracle you mentioned isn't a bad option. It sounds like you know this, but don't go into this thinking you're getting a $1200 gun for $600. There are corners cut to get a rifle that looks like a Colt to cost half as much. Based on what you said, a cheaper rifle will work just fine for you.

You could get a rubber band and save yourself $349.75. Besides, you'll need that money to pay for the ammo you're going to burn through.
