Got my deer rifle finished up and slung some copper down range... I haven't had this much of a "big block grin" about anything since I picked up my CBR1100XX over 80k miles ago! This thing is a hoot to shoot!

It's a:

Rock River .458 SOCOM CAR upper
Palmetto State Armory lower
Spikes standard LPK with Bill Springfield trigger
Hogue grip
Magpul MOE stock with extended rubber buttpad
Daniel Defense Burnsed Loop receiver end plate sling mount
LaRue Tactical LT-104 VFZ mount
Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 matte with LR reticle (and Butler Creek caps)

Mags are standard mil-spec 30rd (hold 10rds of .458) with Magpul followers, and I just beveled the front of the mag.

I didn't take any pictures, but I was very nearly clover-leafing 5-shot groups at 100yds from a bench.

That's a nice looking gun. These guns are getting more versatile. I started using a left-handed stagarms in 6.8 topped with a zeiss scope for deer this year. A very sweet shooter, with most groups around 1" at 100's.

Went to the gun show today, and picked this up Ruger SR-1911. All ready ordered black grips, now I've got two .45 autos. Think I may try and get rid of the XD-45 for something a bit smaller.

I am looking to purchase for the intent to CCW a Springfield XD 40 in the near future.

I have a XD .40 sub compact that I carry. I use a Galco "King Tuck" inside the waist band holster and think it's about as good a way to carry concealed as can be found.

I'm verry happy with the over-all gun holster combo.

Well, I too have been bitten by the smell of gunpowder, LOL.

I am in the process of getting my first, a Heckler & Kock USP in 9mm. Once I get it, I will post some photos.

Same seller also has a Colt 1977 Combat Elite in .45 configuration that is also VERY appealing.

Glock 23 gen4 - have lone wolf conversion barrel to also shoot 9mm through it. Have a blackhawk serpa holster and a crossbreed holster for it.

Torn between 92fs and a xd9 for the next one.

I am looking at it again next week. I should have typed Colt 1911, NOT 1977, not sure where that came from.

Mike, you and I share a good lot in common. We're both Mikes, and we have good taste in many things with guns being no exception.

I've been wanting to get a 6.8SPC AR and a big caliber like the .458, but affording all the 5.56 I want to shoot is already hard enough without adding in more obscure calibers :frown:

Also, in keeping with my tradition of not being able to leave a gun show without taking home a gun, I picked this up at the last show I was at.

Remington 11-87. Taken in on trade. Paid $360 for it

Went to the range with my friend and I were messing around with my trap. We loaded overloaded it with three pigeons and my new shotgun handled them nicely.

Ah yes... That's a smoking deal on an 11-87!

The reason I went with the .458 is that it falls under the "pistol caliber rifle" rule in Indiana, for deer hunting. Already having a couple 5.56 rifles, I'd have likely gotten either a 6.8 or gone AR-10/.308 with my hunting rifle, if we were allowed to do so.

In Iowa, the only rifle hunting allowed is in the bottom two tiers of counties during the January anterless season. Looking over IN's DNR hunting guide, I see what you mean about pistol caliber rifles.

Every time the subject of allowing more rifle hunting comes up, the hillbillies get their panties wadded up complaining about the .3 inch 0.34 ounce heat-seeking lead missiles that are going to be fired indiscriminately from 5 miles out by hunters wielding machine guns. Some amazing things take place for a small piece of lead weighing a fraction of an ounce travelling at thousands of feet per second to hit where you want it to, especially at an appreciable range.

Here, drive hunting is very popular. It can be done safely, but the limited ranges of shotguns bring the hunters closer together makes accidents common during these hunts. I don't think a week went by last season without a "hunter shot in drive hunt" news story. I find it ironic that the use of rifles in those hunts would have very likely eliminated most of those accidents.

But that's about enough of me ranting.

I think I'm going to get a new pistol tomorrow.

I've always liked 1911s and I've been wanting to get a cheap one to tinker with.

Looking at the same one now! Im going to look this weekend at the 5in Tactical model, Called the gun shop today on break and the guy said they fly off the shelfs and are a great gun and highly expandable except y sight replacement is a bitch thats the only thing he had to say bad about them. After watching youtube I learned all you have to do is file the underside of the sights to fit flush. cant wait to check that out

If you get feeding problems, replace the mags. I have problems with Novaks in my STI. Wilson 47D and Checkmate 7rd and extended 8rd mags run great.

That would be my pick if I could get a CCW permit in my county. Here it is a "May issue" state and the sheriff or police chief makes the decision. So far, our sheriff is not too hot on the idea. I will apply when the time is right, because I understand it is pretty much a 1 shot deal.

How much muzzle flip does that Kahr have? Controllable for a double tap?

The Kahr feels great in the hand and the trigger is buttery smooth (dry fire only, so far :frown:). I traded in my LC9 (and holster) and my wife's LCP for the P9 + $150. I think I did OK on the deal, it came with a receipt were it was bought new for $650 new 2 years ago. Now I need to get out to the range, well I went today, but that was before I traded.

Very little, actually. I was concerned about recoil and follow-up shots in such a small piece, so I got the 9mm, but I almost wish I'd gotten the 40. It's that nice to shoot.

Whelp, got my 1911. Went into the shop wanting a $400 RIA. He didn't have any, so my next choice was a slightly more expensive Regent. The slide literally rattled against the frame. So I said "what the hell, give me the springfield".

Keep an eye on the news tomoroow, July 27th, 2012 and see what happens at the worthless UN. It's predicted the the traitor snake Hillary will sign the ATT, the administration hopes to do this with little coverage, sliding it under the nose of America, and than shoving it up our ass's in the senate lameduck session late this year.

Spyw, that's a nice looking 1911. A nice 1911 is on my wishlist. Along with a ccw, either an lc9 or one the new s&w shields, but right now an ak74 is on the top. If I can get a deal a Saiga 12 is in there too. God, I need more money!

Right now I have these
Winchester Model 88 .243
Remington 760 30-06
Winchester 94 30-30
Marlin 336 30-30
Pedersoli 50 cal flintlock long rifle yeah, I rock it old school!
Traditions Deer hunter carbine 50 cal flintlock sometimes the brush is too thick for the long gun.
Romanian WASR AK47
Century Arms Golani(Galil clone)5.56nato
Taurus PT840

It looks like I am about to start into the realm of long rifles. I am picking up a Mosin Nagat 91-30. It is a 7.62x54r Soviet WW2 sniper rifle. It comes with the original bayonet, sling, and cleaning kit. I am still waiting to see it, I have a buddy that is picking up 10 of them and I will purchase this one from him.

Here is the rifle, photo provided by google:

I have a few friends with Mosin's and they all say that it is a great, fun to shoot, accurate weapon. We can buy them all day long out here for around $109.00.

:undecided: Maybe I should pick up 5 or 10 of them just in case I have to arm the neighborhood when the SHTF (or Zombies)

Infantry rifle, not sniper, although some MNs were modified for sniper duty, just like our M1903s and M1s.

I hear those MNs kick like a mule. Keep an eye out for "sticky bolt". Keep extra openers on hand for ammo spam cans. A friend doesn't bother waiting to keep home to rinse the corrosive salts out of his rifles. He carries a small jug and just dumps it on the bolt and down the barrel right there at the range.

They're certainly a very cool piece of history.

Rent/buy "Enemy At The Gates" if you haven't already. It is THE Mosin-Nagant movie.

Going to get my CCW at the end of next month, and thought I should get a gun that is easily concealable, so I traded my XD-45 for this

Its not the most powerful gun out there, but damn is it sexy. Also got a set of black grips for my SR-1911

You'll love it,and it don'st kick like everyone says, I did find the M44 was much loader and kicked harder, but the 91/30 I think is mild.

Have tons of rds through mine, $79 @ Big Five sporting goods a few years back. I have a bottle of Windex with me when shooting, the ammonia breaks down the primer's corrosive salt nicely on the spot.

I you're looking for a mount and scope, I'm liking this one the best for the price and ease, i'm thinking of purchaseing.. Brass Stacker™

I may get another and sporterize it, 22inch barrel, scoped.

Great Mosin info here:

The Windex thing is a myth. Plain old water will dissolve and remove the corrosive salts. Save yourself some $$ and skip the Windex.

Now you're going to have to make James Bond jokes in a Sean Connery voice every time you shoot someone.
