Had to use low 4 to get out of my driveway this morning...plow trucks gave us a nice 2+ foot berm.

Used to late last night to pull my dad out of the ditch. A snow drift pulled his Colorado right. Went rather smoothly.

Over the weekend I was able to get to changing my oil and cleaning my throttle body, and what difference it made. It's like it's brand new.

This was the first oil change that I performed since i bought it, and yikes, that oil filter location...

Next up on the list is figuring out why my driver's seat lower seat heater stopped working. I'm crossing my fingers that it's not the heating unit itself.
After that, a brake fluid flush and sometime I'll need to replace the lift gate struts.

A short drive this AM and the speedometer acted normally. I should check that annoying ground under the center column just to make sure. However, the only gauge that was acting up was the speedometer.

At the dealership for oil change. Asked for a quote for the HVAC door actuator and they asked me for the front or back ones. Last I checked only EXT's had rear actuators.

Rear has one to select floor/vent/both on SWB with Rear HVAC. Temp is controlled by front passenger selection.

Not trying to get all techy in here but normally a failing stepper sticks at a certain point when ignition is turned off instead of returning to zero or starts getting jerky in movement. :tiphat:

Drove into work, ice in my driveway required a little more fuel to back out of my parking spot in 2wd. I need a G80 or a 8.6 with a locker.

Nah. You can sort-of dupe an open axle by using your brakes, carefully. I'd say use the hand brake but as that's really a parking thing, and really doesn't seem to like being involved in stopping reverse motions, your regular brakes might have to do it.

As for me, drove it, and then drove it again, we had some wind today! There's one section of highway where the way they dug down into a hill on either side makes kind of a tunnel and if there's a 10MPH gust, it seems twice as bad in there.

Bought 2 new Bosch wiper blades only $14 each, 22A driver side and 22B passenger side, couldn't see a difference but as I type this I wonder if the mounts are in different locations. On a previous pair I had I swapped left and right, passenger one hit black window edge molding but after swapping it didn't rest on black molding. I thought they were 2 different sizes.

I have noticed the speedo moving in 1/2 to 1 mile increments up and down especially in the mid-range. So probably 99% speedo stepper is retiring and 1% ground needs cleaning. Right now I have one of the ScanGauge displays set to MPH.

Put a set of 245 75 17 Firestone Destionation AT on the envoy. Hopefully they do good. $300 out the door with only 300 miles on them I thought it was a heck of a deal.

I really wanted 265 70 17s but we couldn't afford the price.

Good tire. I have those.

yeah...I have yet to do a change without oil bombing myself to some degree.
Oil down the arms wheeee!

There really is no way to get that out without dumping oil on something. But hey, the frame underneath the oil filter is the least rusty steel on my truck

Oil change, tire rotation, air adjustment in all 5 tires, and new Suspension Maxx sway links and new sway bar bushings for Mom's Envoy today. Old filter was ON THERE, had to reach through the lower control arm and above the frame and stab it with a screwdriver to get it to turn loose - talk about an oil bath.

I hope they are good tires.

Does anybody else with these tires feel like the tires are crushing down on higher speed turns?

This is the first time I have ran firestones since having bad luck with them on our Fords.

Probably body sway, and possibly a little sidewall give, these trucks are heavy on top, and the tires aren't lo-pro, so you'll have a little give especially if you're a little low on air.

I could imagine the XUV is even worse.

Anybody running these tires (Firestone 245 75 R17) have a recommendation on tire pressure?

I run 35 front and rear, both when I had stock size and on my now current 265/75/16. I also got over 60k miles out of them.

Ok thanks may have to either air up or air down the tire. Not sure what discount put it at.

Also I torqued the lugs at 100ft lbs is that enough or to much?
Sorry I am getting this thread off topic.

Air them up to the specs on the driver door facing, supposed to get better gas mileage at those pressures.

As for what I did to my GMT, let the EXT sleep all day, just went and got some drinks out of her though.

Even with it being a slightly bigger tire?
I am not all concerned with fuel mileage mostly ride. With the old tires (225 60 17s or maybe it was 245 60 17s) it got 17 MPG and that was with my foot in it (5.3L) which is better then any of my trucks (minus the 10 F150) gets.

Stood in the garage and took in the smell of the new Nitto's I had put on. (Gotta love that new tire smell....even after a couple of weeks.)

Then hopped in my Subaru and went to work.

Put in a new battery. First the pics, then the story behind it....

20150206_151531.jpg

Pulled the battery tray out of the tahoe and grinded all the rust off of it.

20150206_153233.jpg

Hit it with primer and then a shot of dark gray paint.

20150206_161957.jpg

I went with dual terminals for the same reason as the trailblazer - it just makes my life easier. I had a couple of extra xs power caps for the top terminals so I used them.

Now the story. Three weeks ago the night time temps started dropping in the single digits. The tahoe started having a dead battery at random times. It could sit for five days with no problems. Or it could sit for one night and be dead in the morning. I'd bring it to the shop, charge the battery, do a key off draw test, 5mA was normal, no problem found. Today was the last straw. I left my meter hooked up in series with the negative battery cable and got some lunch. When I came back she was chillin at 380ma. OH YEAH, finally some hard evidence! Pulling IGN A killed the draw. IGN A in my tahoe also powers the remote start brain, and remote start ACC/Start feed. Long story short, the r/s unit was putting power to ACC inter-freaking-mittently with the key off. I got lucky as hell that I caught it. Going through warranty claim now.

Well the advance auto battery that came with the Tahoe had taken a beating during this ordeal. Ran under 10v a couple of times. After the truck passed the draw test the first time I thought that maybe the battery is mad that it's cold out so started saving for a new one. If this was my daily driver I'd have kept it in there but since the wife and son cruise the coast in it it's better safe then sorry.
