Drove to buffalo today, heading there wasnt bad

Coming back, ran into trouble

As I was driving along, I noticed a funny smell, figured it was the air outside.

5 mins later I look back and see smoke from right behind the passenger seat. Pulled over, called fire, I started dumping snow on the inside. Cops showed up, told them what happened. Fire takes a look.

I knew the muffler was cracked and the exhaust gases wasnt exiting out the rear as they should, instead rising up.

Cop says you cant drive, I wasnt going to take the risk. He says if you know a tow truck, said nope, he calls somebody local

Had to get towed from Hamilton to Mississauga. $150 flatbed + $3 a kilometer

Nice 350 bill

Now I got to pull the carpet and check the damage, hopefully the heat didnt cause a hole in the body.

Plus a new muffler

:frown:

Hopefully you weren't driving down to see the "Labatts Pond Hockey Tourney" that never happened due to crappy ice...that would make it a triple bummer

hmm i've got to get my truck a cinderblock higher....

20130207_220717_zps112a3614.jpg

I went through that same nightmare today. I jacked the truck up a little to slide the transmission under thinking that I could then get it on the jack. That didn't work out to well. After trying that for almost an hour I gave up and pulled everything back out. I then got it on the block of wood and onto the jack and strapped it all down. Then it was time to figure out how to get it under the truck with the entire assembly 8 inches taller. In comes the high lift on the passenger rock slider. It took a bit of effort, and I sure wasn't happy with the angle I had the truck, but all worked out in the end.

I then spent an hour trying to get the transmission lined up with the flywheel, but couldn't seem to get it to come loser the about an inch apart. After struggling with this for a half hour or so, on my own by the way, I dropped the jack back down to take a look at everything again. It seems that there is an AC line that runs on the back side of the engine, using the top two transmission bolts, and that had dropped down enough to be in my way. :duh:

At that point I was out of time, but hopefully tomorrow will go a lot easier.

i gave up trying to get the truck high enough to get the trans under it while on the jack. i ended up putting it on a small furniture dolly, then transferring it onto the jack while under the car. not sure how i pulled that off. then i found out the max lift of the trans jack, and had to drop my truck down a few pegs on the old jackstands.

life is much easier with the one piece bellhousing/case thats open on the bottom. they should at least put a larger inspection hole on the removable bellhousing to allow you to access the tc bolts...

Loaded my PCM of NC tune on Saturday. Drug the boat around a bit and I have to say, DAMN!! Since I bought this thing, about 4 years ago, I have always thought it was a slug towing the boat. We used to have a 96 Yukon 4x4 that we towed with, and it was a great tow vehicle, especially after I installed the 3/4 ton suspension etc. I have to say that now I finally have a tow vehicle that is better. What a huge differance.

I had them send me 2 tunes, one specifically for towing and another for not towing. So far I have only loaded the tow tune and it is such a differant vehicle that I cant even begin to explain it. Much more power across the whole board. What I love the most is getting out on the road. Our marina is located right off a road that the speed limit is 55mph on, and there is a draw bridge that blocks the view one way, so when you pull out, there could be a car doing more than 55mph cresting that bridge. It gets a bit hairy when you cant get up to speed fast enough. Now I can get up to speed in a timely manner and not cause a hazzard. The shifting is smooth and positive, whereas before it never felt quite right.

I havent really looked at the other tune. I wonder what they did differant between the two.

So far I have only put about 30 miles on the tune and most of it was with the boat back there. I am clocking in at about 14mpg with the boat, which I am extatic about because that is what it was before the tune.

No, went to pick up some things I ordered online, mostly tools and car parts

I didnt get dinged at the border for taxes, felt pretty good, until the smoke started

I guess I saved on 1 side and had to payback on the other

Got the dash mount done, now i just have to finish wiring the power. I'm putting an extra 12v socket in the dash. Functional for now though until the rest of the parts get here.

well... i went and got a second opinion on the vibration issue for the beaSSt... and its not looking good... for fear of trolls or reps out on the forums, all I'll say is that I'm in direct talks with GM and a claim has been filed... meaning a claim on my behalf and GM has stepped in finally instead of GMPP

Simple extraction, and installation. smooth the edges, and I think you would be golden.

Checked out the carpet damage from my cracked muffler, cut the carpet and looked underneat, no hole in the body, but a nice hole in the carpet

Ran my hands over the top of the muffler and it is cracked real well.

Gonna order the gibson exhaust, something I wanted for a while

With some expertise from my dad we changed the motor mounts today. I can say it has been an adventure trying to get the parts ordered and shipped. Job was pretty easy and the reward is worth it. It feels so smooth now and you can barely hear the engine running. On top of that it even decreases some noise while driving since the engine does not move around. One thing I did to ease the install was to cut the top non threaded portion for the drivers side mount as shown on the left in the picture. Come to fund out the top part of the old passenger side mount was pulling out.

Replaced the battery...after trying to start it and finding it was just wouldn't start, waited for my local auto parts store to open, called in late to work and bought a new one.

I didn't realize the original battery would last this long.

Oh and I just went over 150k on the clock.

I wish I could have less miles, but a previous job had me all over the midwest to the tune of 45k in miles from April to June.
