Playing "troubleshoot the idle!"

When in gear, it seems to be fairly well okay, may be some light roughness that I can't notice too well.

When in park/neutral, it gets a little rough. I swear I heard some light pops (three, about 1-2 seconds apart then none after) while sitting in neutral, but my hearing is bad so I don't know.

The MIL's never flashed, and I'm not sure if it relates to my recent maintenance or my recent accident, so planning the weekend job of digging into all the wires and connectors :rotfl:

I'm sure you cleaned the throttle body and reset the computer right? Just cause the check engine light aint on, don't mean there aint no codes. There could be a pending misfire code. Just food for thought.

Yeah, that was all done. I noticed when I had everything apart two of the coil packs were missing the locking key on their connectors, but the connectors were still seated solid. Perhaps my accidents jarred them up. I don't have a code reader currently to pull those, and am about to dump $300 in a new part to fix the cosmetic damage so not sure I could afford one.

I could see if I know anyone who has a scanner though, it'd be nice to know. Why does it sometimes file it away as pending rather than stored? Is it just holding onto the code while it confirms whether or not it's actually happening?

Yes, a pending code is something that has happened once or a couple times. Maybe not long enough to set the permanent code. When it fails again, it will turn the light on. Some codes turn the light on right away, and some take 2 failures to turn on the light.

The Torque Lite app (code scanner only) is free, the full version that shows you live data is $5. Combine that with this, and you're covered for the cost of going out for lunch. :twocents:

New cellphone > lunch price :raspberry:

I'm semi-old school, to my own detriment I suppose. I don't have an Android or iOS phone.

That's the beauty of it. I'm a diehard Blackberry guy. But I'll order one of these to use on my kindle or any other bluetooth tablet I have kicking around.
Don't think either Apple or Droid. I'm sure you could pair it with an older ipod touch as well

Not BB either. LG 700G, only runs some basic Java apps :rotfl: And I don't have an iPod or anything, Apple's never been my thing since I can always find comparable quality for half the price.

I'm kind of curious if I'm not onto something with checking connections and grounds though. Warmed up, idling in park, if I hold two window switches up and they're already closed, there's a noticeable difference in the note, not a serious stumbling but noticeably pronounced compared to just sitting there. The seat heater turned off simultaneously with one test of this one time, I'm not sure if it was a load shed event or just a coincidence. Volt gauge jumps up a notch too, but doesn't read anything abnormal when just sitting there.

If it's not the issue, oh well at least they're checked, she's nine years old and it couldn't hurt to clean and reseat some grounds  I'll also check into my guy, runs a service center in town so I'd imagine he has at least a nice code checker (not necessarily a Tech II or anything, but still a very decent or nice one), I can probably have them read on the cheap or maybe for free, because connections!

Power windows are usually set up to stop closing when they sense resistance, there's no limit switch in place to stop it from going too far. By holding the buttons, you're making the windows work harder than they're supposed to and they're drawing a lot more current than they should. You're gonna break something.

Don't worry, I know. That's why it's done for only a very short period of time, similar to what an old lady would do with slower reflexes (<=0.5sec), I would assume it can take at least a little abuse of this type, or they would have had a lot of angry customers who broke their windows because of a perceived weakness in the design.

Motors can usually draw up to twice the full current rating when attempting to start from a dead stop, or when being stopped. This in turn would show up as an excess of heat build-up in the motor when done, and in a short time can overheat the motor, then you get melted insulation lacquer and that's what screws the motor, usually. Had a large 25 HP unit running the sorter system where I used to work, rated 32 amps for full draw. Typical draw when running idle was about 12-15 amps, and with a nice load of bleach and other boxes it could get up to 20, but when you first started the system it would peak out at over 40 amps and then continue to draw in the mid-high 20s while coming up to speed (used an inverter for speed control), so I can also imagine what the power windows and other motor systems go through while under this kind of draw, or under ramp-up conditions.

And if I break it... oh well, it's just money, and money isn't buying me a whole ton of happiness anyway so I can spare some.

Oh trust me, I know. I was content with at least not being in debt, and I was formerly working minimum wage  and affording my loan every month and all that. Anyone who thinks money will suddenly make everything better, look how many celebrities still off themselves, whether on purpose or accident. It seems the popular M.O. is illegal substances - and if you're happy with your life and having a good life, you don't need a syringe or pipe to make things better. And apparently having seven-digit accounts doesn't have that magic. I mean, it doesn't hurt to have that kind of money but it isn't a magical solution.

After 2.5 days with no electric (PA ice storm) and house torn apart because we're remodeling a room, took my son to a gun show. Came back with a few odds and ends, nothing super fun.

Bought a holster today for the M&P Shield, then went with Dad to look at an 81 Dodge 3/4 ton flatbed as a possible replacement for our current POS Sonoma farm truck. In pictures, the truck looked great, but in real life it only took Dad and I about a minute to decide that even if the guy was giving it away we wouldn't take it. The spring hangers were rusted so badly at the frame that I honestly don't know what held them on, I could see light through the frame there and several other places. Aside from the letdown, (we went prepared to drive it back) today wasn't too bad - got to take a nice drive through some country I'd never been in before and found a Chevelle wagon (so ugly that they're cool) in original (a little rusty, but all surface) shape that I just may have to go check with the owner about sometime.

I'm going to open mouth, insert foot here by not having a GM vehicle as my recommendation on a GM-dedicated site, but...

Find a first-generation or second-generation Dodge Ram with the Cummins diesel if you can. If those things were kept up decent, they're pretty well bulletproof, some reporting as many as a million miles before overhaul. Most can't lay claim to that, but the forum posts here - moparts: How many miles is a lot for a Cummins Diesel? - show a lot of good results with the 5.9 Cummins in particular.

Well I got to suck up probably around 15 gallons of water out of my bedroom carpet thanks to a burst pipe this weekend. Got home this evening after being gone a couple days and was welcomed by the sound of spraying water  The pipe behind the washer in my bedroom closet split a good 1 inch section and was blowing water everywhere

Landlord came by and we shop vac'ed the carpet to get as much as we could out. The plumber came and replaced the section of pipe. Turned the water back on, all was good, and he left... then we heard another hissing. The hot water line in the wall somewhere has a small leak in it somewhere too :hopeless: For once the crap plumbing from the water heater is a good thing, so with the hot water "off" I still have hot water to the kitchen sink. No where else. I'll turn the water back on to the tub to take a shower since it is a very very slow leak, then turn it back off. Plumbers are coming back on Tuesday to rip out the cabinet and sink in the bathroom to feed a new hot water line as we think the break is in there somewhere. Can't say for 100% sure since there is no access to that part to actually inspect the pipes.

So right now all my bedroom stuff is in the living room and the bed is in the kitchen  At least nothing important got wet, the bed frame is already dried out and nothing else was on the floor that could get damaged. I have a space heater in the bedroom trying to dry out the rest of the carpet. I will be picking up a dehumidifier tomorrow.

YUCK.

I am getting paid for an outdoor apparel study after work in the morning. Window shop for an hour and I'm done.
