I've bought two sets. One for my car has been going almost a year with no hiccups and one for my brothers truck has been going since about September.

Don't hate bro, you might have had bad experiences with cheap stuff or heard of people having issues with it but I haven't had an issue.

Capote said he bought bulbs from the seller I use for everything but I'm shocked that he had a problem because I've bought multiple sets of bulbs (wanted to try out different colors over the months) and two complete sets with ballasts and haven't had an issue.

Capote also doesn't have the cap mod or drl killer and said that one of his ballasts is acting funny, maybe it's not putting out 35w anymore and that's why the colors were so skewed. Idk, I'm just still surprised that he had issues.
You might not have performance issues because the tolerences for reflector housings are large. The issue you will see with the cheap $30 kits is when it is time to intall them in a projector. Hot spot out of place, alignment issues, etc.

Quality over quantity, but for some reason people like to spend as much money on multiple cheap (insert part) as it would cost to buy one quality part. Makes sense to me :blinkhuh:

Yeah I know the bulbs are shit for projectors, you know I already figured that one out and upgraded.

Most people don't do a retrofit though so those kits are just fine for reflectors, which we were talking about reflectors.

I can't remember what Lil capacitor is needed to do the quad beam mod. I would like to get that knocked out today. I think I'll go ahead and do my cluster today too. Probably way late tonight after everyone is already asleep. So no one is a PITA

I meant diode, but whatever I found it, and I know my radioshack has it

I swapped pins for quad beams... Nothing else needed

You did? Haven't seen anything going about it that way

I did not do it personally as I got it done by Regulator at one of first meets we were at years ago when I did not even think it was possible. he popped the pins and swapped them and they have worked since. Only issue is if you have brights on when you turn truck off, the lights do not auto turn-off

Oh okay, I wonder which pins he swapped

I saw Fletch's on here, but he did not just swap the pins. I did not see Regulators, but I mighta missed it. I sent Pote a link to the pics from Reg.

Pin swap on mine was under dash not in fuse panel.

I had kinda figured that.. But just throwing it our there since he talked bout the diode mod first.. And since if u follow directions in the article but don't install the relay the right way it won't work.. But using these pins everything works.

If doing diode mod.. I made a diagram to what pins to use. Just never got around to rewriting the article..

What mine looks like. Got both diodes isolated from each other via heat shrink tubing then got a piece of heat shrink over both of them. Silver stripe goes to the high beam relay. I used the wire to connect it to the pins, wraps around real nice and it's secure.

I haven't seen the old pin swap trick since I first got on the OS back in '13.

-btw, if you don't have fog lights, you only need one diode and it's significantly easier because you don't have to get 5 different things soldered together like I did when I done it.

Finally put green LED strips in cluster
Buuuut RPM's, oil pressure, voltage, fuel, and water temp are all off.....which makes me assume speed is going to be wrong too.... And all these needles we're put to their marked positions. This is gonna be a PITA to fine tune.......FML

Any suggestions on corrections?

It helps if you have Torque, a Scangauge, or something else that tells you the same data. When I first did my cluster mods, most of my needles were slightly off like that too. Just took the cluster face off, and nudged the needles slightly.

Tachometer is easy, at idle you know it should be around 600rpm. Oil pressure and temp, should be straight up (generally). Speedo should be easy. When you're not moving, should be right on zero. Fuel is more subjective. For me, I know for the first half of the tank, each tick mark is 30 miles, just cuz I'm OCD about watching that. As long as you know when it's full vs when it's empty, you can really set the needle to wherever you want it, low fuel light typically comes on with about 2 gallons left in the tank. :twocents:

I did change the position of the tach, but once I hooked it back up the needle jumped to around the 500 tick mark before even turning the key into the on position. So I guess I gotta turn all these needles a lot farther??

Gonna be pretty hard I imagine unless u have torque or other scanner..

This may get u close though..

I have dash command, I'm not worried about where the voltage, oil, and temp gauges need to precisely be because I remember exactly where they are supposed to be from staring at my cluster all the damn time because of my wacky voltage. It's just a matter of moving the needles to the left far enough so that when I power the truck these needles start moving where they are supposed to lie. That's what I think is gonna be an annoyance. Because we're not supposed to move these needles while the rig is running right?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that before removing the needles you move them as far left as they will go, and make a little mark with some painters tape or take a picture. Then when reinstalling, line up the far left point again. I guess the steppers have lower stops?

Not really sure, I have never messed with mine on my truck. The Camaro uses something different for the needles (air core I think?) so when I changed them I just took pics of the needles when I turned the key to on, then lined up the new needles to the same position. Only had to tinker with the speedometer a bit after that.

Yeah I remembered that after the fact about moving them as far left as they'd go. All the needles are about a centimeter off from where they should lie when the vehicle is off

Modding is so deeply intertwined in my being that I am out of control, and it seems completely normal. Heck even worse my soon to be wife has this addiction as well.

When you buy a truck, and do about 10 mods to it in the first 2 days of ownership you might have a mod addiction.

Before we even left the dealership I "stole" it from, She Says "we gotta get that ugly ass roof rack off of that thing today." :rotfl:

Needed new lower front control arms and bought the 08 ones knowing it forces another mod to the sway bar links. Get to build another set and the mod bug just keeps on smiling!

My mod bug is just now barely realizing that I'm looking at another Gmt...this one being a 400 series Tahoe and it's already putting thoughts in my head...such as a Gmc grille swap and quad sealed beam light swap...

I never cared for the GMC grille of that generation. Always liked the Chevy more.
