Sounds like there's something in the air this week. I ordered some SMD LEDs, resistors, and PCBs last night to tinker with.

Yeah I have been disappointed with my morimoto d2h bulbs. One of them has a flicker in it all the time. Its not very noticeable but its there nine the less. Seller is being an ass about it, and is insisting that it is the ballast. I swapped sides and the same bulb still does it. Then I put in a completely different set of ballasts and the same bulb flickers. Now he says I have DC ballasts and I need ac ballasts. I asked if he sent me a DC and an ac bulb and he said no. Well then asshole why do I have on flickering?? He doesn't want to send me another bulb. Fk that dude. Filing a claim.
I had the same issue with my mori bulbs, like you, I had no problems with cheap bulbs but $40 bulbs flickered. After my ballast swap to 55w AC from 35w likely DC the flicker went away. Btw, there's no such thing as AC or DC bulbs, they're all the same.

If you were running 35W bulbs on a 55W ballast that would cause flickering problems. Some bulbs are fine with both wattages but not all.

Aftermarket bulbs are normally fine on whatever and don't care about wattages. However, I'm quite positive that my cheap 35w ballasts were crapping out. They had likely thousands of hours on them because I ran them every time the engine was running.

I've got an idea... (I know, the dreaded words of a mod addict)

Since I've got 14+ feet of red 5630 strip left I've been pondering mods to do with it.

Was sitting in the McDonalds drive-thru last night gazing at the truck in front of me which was rocking one of those LED brake light strips that goes under the tailgate and that's when the idea came to me..I could totally make one of those out of the mass amount of strip I have left. I can even make it work with the turn signals if I break it down into two strips by cutting it in the middle.

Then the dilemma of differentiating parking/running lights from brake lights came up and I just happened to stumble across this on hidplanet while doing some casual reading.

http://www.diodedynamics.com/store/catalog/product/view/id/22242/s/2a-led-pwm-dimmer-with-bypass-pair/category/1448/

That device would effectively let me have endless control over differentiating the two intensities of light.

So, I'm at the point of doubting how it will look. Ya'know, it's kind of a truck thing so idk if it'll look alright on an SUV therefore I need about three people to say "that's a great idea, it'll look good" (or similar) and that'll be enough to get me started on the mod.

What do you guys think?

I respect your opinion. :tiphat:

So far I've been leaning towards tapping into the trailer connector wires for all functions. Just seems like the easiest to access. If that don't pan out I'd probably tap into the wires going to the brake lights from the inside of the vehicle behind the panels but that's a last resort. Would much rather tap the trailer wires.

I had one of those fire and ice bars for a couple years when my LED mod bug was in it's infant stage. Initially I loved the look, but then as some of the LEDs started to have issues, the love got lost.

I think tapping the trailer connector would be your best bet. That way you don't have to figure out the switchback logic for when the turn signals are activated when the parking or brake lights are on.

Seriously speaking though, I'm indifferent about them. I've seen them on lifted to hell Duramax Silverado's and slammed Ford Rangers. The Duramax looked awesome, while the Ranger looked disgusting. I think it wouldn't look bad on our rides, just as long as you don't have a whole bunch of chrome nonsense all over your truck.

That PWM dimmer is awesome though. Could use it to make my LED tails quad tails :undecided:

So....I'm looking at this marine headunit for the old Dodge...

http://www.dualav.com/marineaudio/mgh30bt.php

There is a speaker grille on the passenger side of the dash for the OE radio that these trucks came with which will be a perfect location for it.

Think there are about 5 style steering wheels I like, but need to look up stock size and stay similar so the gauges dont end up obscured.

I had been feeling a bit twitchy and irritable lately. Might have been withdrawl symptoms... might have been my employment situation... Somehow, I feel better now that these are on my work bench. :coffee:

Saw you buy those bars on hidp, just get them today? When I bought something from him a month or so ago it took FOREVER to get here. I'm excited to see what you do with them.

What's the other goodies? 5050's and 5630's?
-actually, now I see they're much smaller than 5630's :duh:

TBH, I have no concrete plans in mind for the light bars. Thought maybe put one behind the grille as an aux high beam, and one somewhere in the rear as an aux reverse light. The other stuff, I'm taking a page from BTs book, and going super secret squirrel mod.

And yeah, they just got here today, they spent FOREVER in Chicago before finally getting on their way to FL.

I posted this pic for everyone to drool over and hoped someone would buy some lol. Didn't see anyone else post about them.
 Those are the prototypes the guy built before going into full production. Tested them in the kitchen, with the sun shining in, and they were still bright as hell.

Surprisingly my mod bug has been quiet for awhile.... Must have realized that I couldn't do any mods for a bit....but I think its starting to stir again considering I'm about to start on that van to get it ready for the road rally next month.

Simple solution, build your own then... Then you can set the delay/timer :raspberry:

I have not done a single mood to my truck since the headlights. I have been saving all my money to move. I'm hoping to get the fog lights from Ryan next week, I've had those hids sitting around for a while. Stay strong my brothers :tiphat:

While changing my oil last night I inspected my oil skid that I built in the early fall. Thing has held up wonderfully after an icy/salty/briney winter. Only one spot needed some improvement, a little clearance relief added. Now my brain is a flutter with even more stuff to build

Budget has put a huge crimp on any modding for a while. I spent all my money last month on the furnace, truck, etc. I have a laundry list of things I want to do to it however

So I found another set of the headlights that I want on eBay for $94. Not sure if it's worth it compared to $78 for OEM lights. :undecided:
If they were only $78, I'm thinking those were aftermarket, not OEM. Are you looking to open them for modding, or just stock replacements due to cloudy main lenses?

Cut the 78$ ones open and make your own clear cornners. Problem solved. [emoji106]
