so who still uses the old site?

It's just hilarious, and sad at the same time, to see <10 post noobs answering other <10 post noobs. Reminds me of this:

Gotta love it! :rotfl: I have a 15 month old at home that could offer up the same advice even though his twin doesn't exist and no one is listening. (as in the case of the OS's remarkable goose egg replies).

Ya know, maybe because I'm tucked away in a corner of Canada, I had few problems with the old site. Yep, it was slow at times (but this one has been as well), the banners were not a problem and I enjoyed helping out those with lesser knowledge. The old site was a fun place to spend some time.

I was not aware of the problems that frustrated the staff on the old site; and if I were, there was nothing I could offer that would help.

I stayed with the other site long after I traded in the Envoy, because it was fun ; it was fun to help others, and it was fun to banter with online friends that I will never meet.

Most (if not all) of the online friends are over here, but there is less banter. The noob's made the opportunity for the banter, and they were the ones that needed the help.

The sad part is, those, who moved, need very little help.

God help me for saying this..................................................WE NEED NOOB's

I joined a couple of fullsize GM sites, after I bought the Avalanche; but I kept going back to the OS, because the new sites were dull. I know we are a small group; and I know we will grow, but the wait may be hard on the enthusiasm :frown:. And, that is my :twocents:

1) The noobs that we manage to attract back here with a bread crumb trail get flooded with good advice like a little old lady trying to cross the street in front of a Boy Scout convention.

2) There are active projects to try to attract noobs.

God help me for thinking this ................ but you're right. The community isn't JUST about dialog among friends, but about helping noobs. And there is a TSUNAMI of noobs about to hit, all of them buying $4000-5000 vehicles with deferred maintenance and abusive former owners and the noobs also will not have deep pockets because that's why they're buying old vehicles rather than $30-50K new ones!

We see that. And we're gearing up to meet the need.

:frown:I am guilty of doing it too, but now that I have had time to really see whats going on, I promised Bill I would'nt post there again, but like some of the others I may just check it out again but only as a visitor!

Look at the bright side...this site is for all GMT vehicles including the Avalanche. You'll just have to attract Avalanche owner noobs!

With ur avitar u shouldn't make fun of anyone! :rotfl: I kid...

Like others here, I replaced my OS bookmark on my toolbar with this one....and as soon as voltage is making decals I'm gonna order a few. Nice to see familiar faces here (even though I dissapeared for a year or so), and can't wait to show off my TB when I get it.

My Rainier has been running well lately so I hadn't been on TV very much. Thus, I missed all the drama.

By the grace of God, I had a moment of clarity and found myself here. It's nice to see the old faces.

Welcome to the new and improved place of awesomeness.

By the way guys.....I think I found a silver '06 for a good price in Florida. Owner said he might be willing to hold it for me til I get there. 85K miles, swb 4x4 LS. Keepin my fingers crossed!

While I understand why this site was created, I would not like to see it move toward exclusivity by "shunning" members who visit the old site from time to time. I still go there, and even made a few posts up to a week or so ago.

Now, I visit more for the hilarity in reading some of the stupid advice that noobs are getting from noobs on there.

But I want this site to be about being friendly, welcoming and helpful. I lived through exclusivity all the way through high school 40 years ago and never want to experience that again. In my day, high school was all about the jocks shunning the geeks, and even high school phys-ed teachers were in on the joke. They loved to do things to us geeks strictly for the enjoyment of their jocks that would literally get them arrested for assault if they ever tried them today.

(Mind you ... the jokes on them now. While all the jocks have jobs selling used cars, I get to travel the world working on the set of action movies for a living. Those who can; do. Those who can't; teach. And those who can't teach; teach phys-ed.)

So, let's keep this site friendly and open.

And ... please ... lose the snowflakes! It sucks my processor power, makes my MacBook fan come on full blast and drains the battery when I am off AC!

But that's about it. I am looking forward to this site maturing into the best source of information and entertainment on the automotive forums net!

In a very short time span of about 2 weeks, all the real help moved over here and stopped posting there. It made little sense for me to spend any time over there. I also never felt the need to put up money for a premium membership because I knew they were making more on the ads. I put up money here because I'm showing my appreciation for what I've gotten from folks in the past and I want to see this site succeed. It need money as much as participation.

Now, about attracting noobs. The first place most people go to is Google. Type in "trailblazer forum" and the first 2 hits are for the OS. I'm not sure what has to be done to get to the top of that search list, but that may be the place to start. No?

All I know is that ever since the mass exodus, the number of "online users" on the OS has gone through the roof... :frown:
I wonder if that has something to do with the rise in popularity regarding their Google search prominence....

I think it's that they redefined "active" to be defined as "logged in once and looked at a thread in the last 42 days". If I was a suspicious person, I would think they did that to inflate their numbers to show the advertisers (in case they heard about mass defections from other Vertical Scope sites) that they were running just fine.

More proof they value the community at NOTHING, and selling ads is EVERYTHING.

Just look at the way they let spammers run around willy-nilly. No mods = spammers playground.

I know I do lurk over on the OS just to see the happenings and if any old members happen to stop by and have not been brought up to speed on the situation, I know I visited the OS once and got that pesky message saying that I've have not posted in a while, haven't seen that in ages ....but I have posted recently but in a non informative manner and in non essential threads, now let me go get my shield and helmet just in case roadie wants to throw something at me :tongue:

It won't be "thrown"... It'll come in the from of the famous "Rolled Up Roadie Paper" and culminated by that famous "WHAP!"

Visiting - fine. Posting useless items - fine, except it makes folks think it's a thriving community. Answering questions? Why would anybody want to that except for the sake of the noobs, who are better served long-term by being led here.

Already have the cartoon ready to go:

Oh yes....the WHAP!
I recieved a few of those myself on the OS...:frown:

'I do solemnly swear to endeavour to not get 'WHAP'd' again'

Went to the old site yesterday, looked up "my replies"....not much activity. I did see somewhat of an explanation as to the post that had been deleted as well as talk of sabatoge....apparently some of you guys are regular freedom fighters....:rotfl:

Dammit! We've been found out!! Speaking of which, I don't recall ever earning myself a Roadie Whap. I've gotten a few LMGTFY's, but no "WHAP"s... :undecided:

Might have to work on that. :poke:

I have been whapped and LMGTFY'ed on a few occasions. I don't recommend it!

No whaps here, maybe a LMGTFY, I don't remember.

I try to remain perfect :D :raspberry:

I may end up on this list ... someone asked what the "other site was, and was answered indirectly with never being told. I posted din creatively in the thread, and also called out the admin to not ban, or global ignore me me ...

There was some talk of sabotage in the first couple days after VS discovered the jailbreak. There was nobody here who damaged the data base except THEM as they performed a heavy-handed cleanup that threw out a bunch of babies with the bathwater. We refuted that lie right away here, but they, of course, present a one-sided view of history with no way for us to defend ourselves over there. Not that it matters anymore.

Went on old trailvoy to see how bad it is
I got this message

Hello 02BlackTrailB,

It appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks. Please take a few moments to perhaps ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums. Thanks!

Wait a few weeks. They'll SPAM you with a desperate plea to come back and post. Gotta keep the stats up SOMEHOW to sell those frickin' ads.

It doesn't appear that Drew is going to ban you for that post. We'll see what happens when the Admin reads it. (hopefully they won't do anything to contradict their star moderator)

It would appear that I'm on the "watched" list - I received this via PM the other day:

Hello
I already know about the links people have been posting and I don't care about that. I think we should all just get along myself. I just want to help restore Trailvoy to it's former glory and I'm trying to make some changes that may or may not help. You don't have to hide anything by covering that link with a different name. I'm not going to be like the admin and ban you for that. One thing I ask is just keep it like you are so you don't get banned. Just trying to make it a better place to be here. There are years of knowledge here that would take a long time to move to the other thread. Have a good night

Drew

Man, it sure is funny watching noobs trying to get other noobs interested in meets...

How can anybody be so deluded that you can CREATE a community out of noobs who just fell into a treasure trove of information they had no hand in creating? Two monkey-mods, one with 500 posts, and the other one with ONLY 100.
