Are those plug n' play or do you need to solder? Just curious since I accidentally ordered a blue pannel instead of white. Might pick up 2 of these...

they are basically plug and play as they come with bulb adaptors, but i tend to solder my connections. if you want to run 2 panels off one adaptor, i recommend soldering but you can get away with some basic wire splicing and electrical tape

A Quick question do you all see that the panels is better than the led bulbs and what is the max size for the panel that shall fit in the lighting bezel so i don't order a wrong one ?
I checked out the link and that single 20mm x 40mm chip is only 190 lumens. My single 194 with (6) 5630 chips produces around 330 lumens. Plus, that chip would ship from Hong Kong. You are looking at a long shipping time. Warranty issues would be a headache. I would stick with US sellers :twocents:

As far as panels versus a single 194 LED, that all depends how much lumens you are looking for. I am running all 194 LEDs in the interior, so I am not sure what size panels fit. Carlton did mention that you will need to remove the reflector bowl in each map light to get the panels to fit properly.

Personally, the (6) 5630 chips on each 194 LED provides enough lumens for me. Any LED is a huge upgrade over incandescent bulbs. There should be earlier posts in this thread of what size panels fit. I cannot recall off the top of my head.

Agreed with Manns. Upgraded all domes earlier today and had to leave the trunk light with the stock bulb. The domes are way brighter than the trunk light. It's funny because my green dome lights are actually brighter than my whites.
Wanna have your mind blown?

White LEDs are actually blue. There are no true white LEDs. It's the green colored layer of phosphorus on them that make them white.

Your mind- :explode:

I suppose that would be why they're dimmer.

other than transit time, I've never had anything but good support ordering from China. they have always been willing to ship a replacement part or address any issues I've had.

So can you send me the link for the bulbs that you are using i have bought some 5050 SMD Festoon for the Trunk and i don't see them very bright maybe cause the plastic lens is dirty i will give them a wash with some hot water and soak it for some time in clorox and i believe it shall be better

Items Used

  • 470 ohm 1/4W resistors
My truck didn't come with the Homelink and memo modules installed, but after finding some from a junked GMT, it was time to add them. After figuring out the correct wiring assignments to make them work, it was time to put some LEDs in them.

Here's the Homelink and Memo modules broken down.

Solder on some LEDs and resistors, and give them a quick test to make sure I didn't goof.
I actually did the first time, hooked up all the LEDs backwards polarity, as I had my power supply leads backwards :duh: Didn't catch it until I had EVERYTHING closed back up and ready to reinstall in the truck. Something told me to test them with my power supply on the harness to see them both light up.

And here's the final result before mounting back where it belongs.

Is there any tricks to getting the console piece down off the roof?

Pop the light lens covers off, or flip the sunglass holder down. There are 2 torx screws in the corners, holding up the rear. The front is held in by clips. So get the screws out, then pull down, and it will pop loose.

Oh cap'n, delsolder that bulb, just power it up, and take your LED w/ resistor and put the legs on those solder points. Then you'll know what side is Neg and which is Positive

You can always follow the connection on the board to the pins and the brighter colored wire is usually positive
It's sealed up and don't want to break it getting it opened.

Maybe plug it back in and test to see which is +/-
I like this idea. How do I test it? I'm thinking this is a total noob question so be gentle

That's the easiest method that I know of.

Second method I was thinking of was using a DMM. Most of them will tell you if you've got the polarity wrong. Like, if you put the black lead of the meter on the positive battery post and the red lead on the negative, it'll display "-12.whatever" but if its the right polarity it won't have the negative symbol in front of the number.

Nice work. I am debating about another color change or going white again inside. I also need to redo the DD since one of the blue is out and I never really liked the blue in it like I thought I would.

Thanks Kyle. I don't think I could go any color but white for the domes, I like to be able to see things when I drop em lol

I'm not for sure how many you would need to do whole interior. I only did behind the front seats since they are so bright.

These are the ones I bought, but to use them in the cargo, you would need the festoon adapter.
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=291177489517&alt=web

They only come with the adapters on the right, I already had the festoon adapter on the left from my previous panels.

Count how many bulbs you have. Not sure that you'd wanna put these in every socket because it'd be like the sun was inside when you opened the doors lol.

-that's the ones I bought, same as listed above, just a different quantity and come with festoon adapters. You could probably find a festoon adapter cheap on Ebay if you wanna go with the 10 listed above. You'll need one festoon adapter and the rest of your bulbs will be 194/t10 adapters that come with the panels.
