I was sure that this was a sure sign everything was going great?

Maybe our definition of what a particular sound was is wrong. There are other sounds that should raise caution though.

My brother in-law used to be a mechanic as a part-time gig. He was giving me some advice and I have to say, although I don't know much about vehicles, I'm pretty sure his "fixes" aren't really the best way to go about it. For example, the resonator on my sister's Tracker was rattling, so he just got a saw and cut it off. Problem solved!

In his honor, here are some thread titles with suggested ways to fix them, the easy way:

Heat smells like gasoline
Turn off your heat.


Tire chirp when turning right
Turn left.


No brake lights
Buy some


Weird vibration at 60-70 mph
Drive slower


Battery light On
Disconnect your battery, that will turn it right off


Help! Engine Died!
Okay! Get a new one!


Key gets stuck in ignition
Spray it with WD 40


What do you mow your lawn with?
a lawnmower...


Service 4WD light comes on when I switch AUX light on
Turn AUX light off


Where is neutral?
In between reverse and drive
