Welcome to broken HVAC slider club.
Should come up with a special badge of honor that can be added to our accounts and show up in the member info with each post.

Why the hell did GM have to use such an aggressive grab on the slider knob?

If they didn't then people would complain about the slider knobs coming off.

You know people would find a way to make them pop off.

I stick with the same settings on year 7 as I did the first.

I still haven't figured out "auto" and what it wants to do haha
It depends a lot on what the reading for cabin air temperature says, and maybe a bit of ambient air temp too (I figure that's why they specifically relay that info through the digital system rather than up in the mirror as is the option on manual HVAC systems). I have determined that 61-89 will try to pick some sort of blend door settings based off this info to try to hit a target temperature (which it seems is never actually achieved, otherwise I would expect it to cycle sort of like a home furnace or something) but 60 and 90 will always go full-cold or full-hot.

Changed my wiper blades yesterday. My semi-cheap Michelins lasted 3 years so I can't complain. Trying the mid-grade Rain-X Expert Fits now.

Changed the front rotors on the Denali TWICE today. Parts guy asked the right questions and then gave me the small rotors for I-6. Took them for a break in drive and when i stopped to check them out noticed something wasn't right. The good thing is that you are way faster the second time. LOL The little guys have a nice shine on them now, oh well that is their problem.

On the other hand I didn't notice the pads didn't fit the rotor very well when i was installing them, since i was paying way too much attention to getting them in correctly. We do live and learn. They do stop nice and no brake pulsations.

What did I do to mine today? Crawled under the front to measure the stinkin' front swaybar so I can figure out which bushings I need. I am tired of the rattling from the front when I go over bumps.

Plan on changing the front and rear dif fluid soon, doing a coolant flush, and replacing the front bushings and end links in one shot. Need a couple more paychecks first. My TB is at 104,500 miles and I've had it since 85,000 three years ago....I doubt the dif fluid has been done. I should video it in case interesting colors of liquid comes out...

Make sure you do your transfer case fluid as well. It should be completed every 50,000 miles

Thanks for the advice. I actually (before I discovered TV and then through subliminal messages, this site) had a local mechanic I trust do the spark plugs and wires, transfer case and transmission fluid last summer.

Due to most of my money being tied up in college tuition, I've been stringing out my 100,000 mile preventative maintenance over the past year. I only drive about 3k-4k a year since I started going to school and working here in town.

If you paid to have plug wires replaced you got ripped off...

Is it your bushings or your end links that are rattling?

I probably did, but I'll be doing them myself the next time they need to be done.

I'm having trouble telling....the end links seem petty secure, and the bushings look pretty bad. So I'm going to go with the $12 bushings first, and then move onto the end links if it continues. When I replace the bushings I'm going to get under the front end and make sure everything is torqued to spec per my Haynes manual.

I went to my fathers garage to do some work on the beaSSt and my fathers Colorado. For the Rado, I just swapped radio's for him and for the beaSSt, I fixed my gauges (needles were slightly off after I did my led conversion), applied some new decals, swapped out my blown tweeters for some Rockford ones, and did some more work on fiberglassing my pillar pod.

I actually did this Saturday but just came back from a short road trip to Williamsburg so the kids could have some fun this weekend. I wanted to try a cheap DIY cold air intake and I have only used a flexible dryer hose but I have a spare airbox cover laying around so I chopped it up some, enlarging the cavity around the filter element and opening a larger round hole in the front.

I simply snaked a flexible dryer hose down to where the bumper meets the grill at the non-Rolls Royce spec body gap. I crushed the opening of the hose to elongate the opening somewhat to grab as much air as possible.

Just messing around with it right now but at highway speeds my IAT is only 4 deg higher than ambient. Going down Saturday I didn't hit any traffic...128 miles down, 97 at Interstate speeds...70-80 MPH and 30 miles of back roads but 45-55 MPH average, AC off.

The return trip was bad, alot of traffic and I caved a few times and turned on the AC when stopped. Every 5-10 miles I hit traffic for about 5-10 min.

The results were better than expected, I don't know if the direct flow of outside air helped but the mileage was better than I have received on previous road trips.

Granted I understand the fuel gauge is far from a linear response and others even get higher mileage, but again this is better than I have recorded especially with the 4:10 rear and I also have the small tank.

DIC showed 22.3 AVG going down and I ended up with 21.4 at the end. I wish I could have run the whole tank out with no traffic but I'm going to try to clean it up a little and see what happens. DIC is taken with a grain of salt and I generally net .5-1MPG difference in real world calculations to the bad side.

On a trip. At my friends place, I get up in the morning and click but no crank. Tow to the nearest Canadian Tire for a new starter, and I actually got it in and back before the end of the day on a Saturday. Not cheap though, since I paid a $105 diagnosis fee (no, I didn't trust my guess). The original starter, 216000 km, I should have had it replaced before it gave out. Lesson learned.

I guess that alternator (the original one) should come out before I get stranded somewhere.

Drove around in the sun, then the rain. Stopped at a rest area on I-75, started it and it idled for 2-3 min, then died. SES light on, immediate restart failed, shut off for 15-30 sec, started right up. SES light continued, Advance Auto closed when I got there, so waiting till tomorrow to see what codes are thrown. I'm betting something with the rain, but it's had a pop-feeling at idle since I got it, dealer said engine mounts, now I'm not so sure. Died on me once before, that was solved with cleaning the throttle body. I'm guessing I'll have to splurge on new spark plugs soon, instead of keeping BlckShdw interested in getting LEDs. Hoping that the coil packs are still good, or should I replace them too? 166k miles.

I'd say do the plugs first, since those are relatively cheap compared to coils, and see how it behaves for a little bit after that. Of course, knowing what code it's throwing may take you in a different direction entirely.

166K is alot on stock plugs. Thing about going a long time on stock plugs is you work the coils alot providing a larger gap to jump. I would do the plugs first and it's never a bad idea to have a spare coil pack on hand.

200k here on original coils. Plugs are due for replacement soon. They weren't done until I got the truck at 112k so I got a little time left. I pulled a plug to check it a little while back and it really looked pretty good still.

Today, my truck has been herculinered. I really hope all this work was worth it. If I see a rust spot show through anytime soon I'll be really ticked off.

Plasti dipped the rear step pad. Definitely came out better than I thought it would. It was dark by the time I was done and cleaning up so no pic right now. This weekend hopefully I can tackle painting the wiper arms and cowl. That should be the last of the painting other than touching up the front grille at some point.

Took it out for a test saturday. Hotness followed me around just incase it died and needed a tow. Worked good, came home under its own power. Go to leave for work this morning and it wouldn't start, not a slightest hint of crank. Hoping that somehow the battery drained and that's it. I'll find out after work. I just can't ever claim a small victory...

I did this yesturday, but with it being a holiday and spending time with family, i didnt post...

i finished fiber glassing my pillar gauge pod making it a one piece panel instead of the overlay that it originally came in, and i added some more decals...

i had to tape the edges of the cloth in place since the staple gun i had would not go through that OEM A pillar pod lol. i removed the tape once the resin was set.
20140526_142245_zpsgaytcsht.jpg

after sanding the resin smooth, then it was time for some bondo...
20140526_174548_zps7glrhlm9.jpg

the finished product (before priming and painting... nice smoothed edges

20140527_164940_zpsqcyuypus.jpg

and the decals...

took off my old 6.0 decal inbetween the 2 bolts of the rear window handle delete and installed a new LSX one...
20140526_145136_zpsaqt4xcny.jpg

Then my GMTNation.com banner style decals were peeling in all the corners (and since i have Rockford components in my doors) i replaced those with these..

Painted the front and rear emblems. Pulled my Brake Pad's and Rotors and found out they need to be replaced. :frown:

Also found that my upper control arm bushing has a cracked rubber...

Pulled my Driver side CV Shaft, Doing the passenger side tomorrow. Then I gotta get the bell housing bolts out and pull the motor :wooot:

Not too happy About the problems I found while getting ready to pull the motor but better now then later. Need new Tranny and Fuel Lines, Need to replace the starter cause the bolts broke off and solenoid was junk. of course the brake pads and rotors, also need to replace a few wiring connectors that were burnt out or broke. Also seems I have a cracked boot on a CV Shaft

So far the motor is coming out pretty easy, Manifold flange needs to be retapped because instead of the nuts coming to it decided to take the stud off in the wrong direction stripping it out and warping the studs. Should have it out in a few hours of work tomorrow morning.

Motors got quite a hole in it. See through the side of it right down into the oil pan...

Drove my truck to work for the first time in 6 months. I need to get Ann assignment done asap. All the times pushing and pulling it with out power has knocked it out of wack. Now to keep testing it and catch up on the maintenance that I have missed our couldn't do.
