What did you do to your GMT today?

The rotors were replaced with Brakemotive Drilled & Slotted rotors. As far as painting the surface, just make sure the paint is completely dry before you install the rotors. The paint on the fire path literally flakes off in the first few feet of driving.

The reason I painted the whole rotor instead of just the hats was because I didn't like the look of the rust ring below and above where the pad contacts the rotor. My thought process was that the pad will clean where it touches, and the rest will stay painted. It kind of worked, but the paint didn't come out as nice as I thought it would in my head. I've thought about spraying just the outer edges again and driving while it's still wet, but I haven't got around to it.

not really what i did to my GMT, but I renewed my subscription to GMTN just now :wootwoot::wootwoot:

After I torque everything down I might go ahead and paint my inners too.

I broke most of the tabs on the lens, but I finally got a set of LED mirror inserts installed.

Do you mean on the front facing mirror cover? If so, you might be able to score a replacement from a junk yard pretty cheap. When I take mine off, I turn the mirror glass all the way in one direction so I have enough room to get something thin and flat on the tab to pop it free. :twocents:

Nonono, I didn't even want to try taking that off because I knew I'd find some way to break it! :rotfl:
I broke the tabs on the amber lens that hold it in so you can never ever take it off. It's nothing a some glue can't fix. I don't plan to have to take them off again.

Went to the bone yard for parts for the kids car

Impressive. Hope you bundled up. I'm in MI and you won't find me in the junkyards for a few more months. By March/April the temp isn't so bad, but then there's always a foot of water/mud in the whole yard.

Puttering in the garage. Started making my wires for my upgrade, starting to wonder if I should do my battery relocation now or later.... Hmmmm.

Hey just wondering where does the relocate move it to?

The back of the vehicle. I'm thinking up an idea for mounting a larger than normal air-compressor (compressor not the tank) that looks like the best exterior location would be where the battery currently sits. I just need to think it thru if this idea will actually work.

:undecided:

That would be a LOT of cable to get back to the front of the vehicle. I'm no engineer (yet, lol) but I do know that on the high load/main voltage cables in golf carts we try to keep them as short as possible, also as large - unnecessary long runs of cable tend to be avoided like the plague...

With properly sized cables it's no problem, and done often especially with big audio systems. The stock alternator does about 150A, the extremely short run to the battery in the front means the wire can be ~4ga and work fine.

In my truck I have an aftermarket 270A alternator, and 2 amps in the rear that can draw 100A and 500A respectively. To handle this I've got 4 runs of 1/0 wire (2 positive, 2 negative). For a stock electrical system and a simple battery relocation, you could probably get away with 2 0 gauge runs, but I would recommend 1/0 wire for peace of mind.

I have a 250A alternator. And already have 1/0 wire.

Yeah I was about to say... Audio guys run power to the back all the time the trick is just to use massive gauge wires

glared back at the "Service 4WD" light this morning as it stared at me on my drive into work....fecking light

Started it for the Wife this morning so she could take it to work. It isnt going to like next week. :worried: I am ready for summer.

I got rid of the pesky gremlin in the rear window latch.

I took about a 1hr. round-trip drive into the city to get my books for the upcoming semester, and on the way there I peeked in my rear view mirror and noticed my dome lights were flickering!
I watched for a minute and they eventually stopped on their own. I got worried something was shorting them out, so I hit the override button.
On the way home in my peripheral vision I noticed a dash light was on, but every time I would look it would go off. I wouldn't be too worried on a normal day since it was an amber light, but the dome lights were still flickering, so it freaked me out.
Finally, on one of Maryland's famous always-under-construction roads, I hit a massive bump and both the dash and dome lights stayed on.
"Gate Ajar"
When I stopped for lunch, I shut the rear window and drove home without incident (and the knowledge I need some new hatch struts so the window will actually pop-up when I forget to shut it!). :hissyfit:

Until you get new cylinders, be careful - especially in this cold weather! My ex-gf's mom dropped an Envoy XL hatch on her head because of bad cylinders - gave her a concussion!

Drove around in the cold, drifted in the snow made some donuts. But in all seriousness guys for a ext trailblazer what size struts do I need for the rear lift gate glass? I keep getting two different numbers online and at pep boys in my neighborhood doesn't believe I have a ext! Lmao!

I know this feeling - my Voy decided it was time for the disconnect to start getting very sticky, it's currently about a 50/50 on whether or not I can get the 4WD to engage, and I get to stare at that wonderful light whether it does or doesn't. :hissyfit: Looks like a rebuild is coming up for me during spring break - so much for doing fun things.

On a brighter note - got my two year renewal sticker today for my Envoy license, and also got a new state inspection sticker.

I got mine done through Dec. 2014, but I already paid the taxes which would be required to get my 2015 tag. Maybe I should go back in and get that over with if I can.

My inspection sticker runs out next week too. Cops don't care too much around here so if I have to it can wait. I'll just go where I did last time and get it... "inspected." :undecided:

I used to wait on my S10 until it ran out and gain a month (sometimes two) every year at inspection time, but on the Voy I'd rather keep it current due to the amount of time I drive it and the area I cover in it.

Mine got "inspected" this time as well. Took all of about 10 minutes from the time I pulled in until the time I left, and most of it was waiting on the guy in the shop to come to the office area and see what I needed.

got my hardware kit from Mark, thanks!

and got my tail light plug in as well...gonna take care of that tomorrow around noon if i'm thawed out enough

Spent some time cutting wires for my big 3 (my version is big 6) wire upgrade.

Your hand crimper does the job on those heavy gauge wires? :undecided:

I hope he is using a hammer/impact crimp or he is the hulk

Best to solder those IMO.

= WHAT I DID.

BTW, half assing your wiring is a great way to find yourself with a car on fire or shit up a creek.
