Today, went out and tweaked the back up camera some to get it lined up just right. Experimented with my new HU, and trying to learn some of the features. I threw the manual away, cuz it's absolutely garbage, which was a shock for it being a Pioneer. :hopeless:

Now my truck has gone full retard on me. Started it up this morning, jotted down the mileage for work reasons (and I normally don't work on Sunday so today was already weird) and then the truck just totally shut down  Turned the key off, turned it back on, and my gas gauge suddenly reads empty, the SES light doesn't turn on at all, and the check gages light is glaring at me. Turn it to start and the whole cluster and everything goes dead, release and now the brake light is on along with the check gages and low fuel. OK... turn it all the way off, turn it one click on and the battery light is on. Wait, I don't think the batt light should be on with just one click of the ignition, is it?

Whatever. Sounds like my ignition switch crapped out I guess. Hit 166k miles and the truck just keeps doing stupid things to me

Good thing I didn't pull the insurance on my summer car quite yet!

I think its about time to getcha another 360. Sounds to me its gonna nickel and some ya to death. Start over with one with less rust or maybe no rust...good luck buddy.

Yes, the battery light does come on with one click of the key. I think your truck is telling you to finish those fancy lights, cuz it wants to show them off as you drive around town. :twocents:

Hah, maybe, but those are the least of my worries right now. The truck is blowing fuse 20 under the hood (PCM B) as soon as I turn the key along with a funny burnt circuit smell :worried:

I can't mess with it any more tonight, it is too dark to see anything. Not to mention the weather totally sucks right now.

:badday:

*edit* crap did more searching and found on the OS someone with the same issue. It was his fuel pump/sending unit. It had shorted out somehow. That would explain why the fuel gauge suddenly reads empty also. CRAP.

*edit2* Confirmed fuel pump or related. Swapped the fuse again, pulled the fuel pump relay, and turned the key. It cranked and fired, then of course had no fuel and died. Put the relay back in, turned the key, the pump kinda started, the fuze blew, and I smelled that nasty smell again. So I'm not sure if it is the fuel pump itself that is bad, or the wiring to the pump, or what. Thing is I cannot jack it up where it is to check it (gravel), let alone drop the whole tank and everything.

*@#%^@(%(^^@#)%#!%*

Might just have it towed to the shop and have them figure it out, fix it, and also fix the coolant leak while they are at it.

Good thing I guess is it didn't crap out on me last night.

At least you know what needs to be fixed now, so that's good at least. Is the weather really that bad? I didn't think you guys were that much colder than us down here (at least not yet)

It isn't really cold as it is about 52, but it is drizzling and very damp/humid. Not very pleasant weather to have while working on a vehicle.

I'm going to call the shop in the morning. This isn't something I can fix myself with it where it is. If it had given me some warning I could have gone to my friend's work and we could have done it, but no chance of that happening now. I'm not sure how we'll tow it out of here though, the angles are all wrong because of where I park. Hm.

Truck is at the shop. Getting it on the flatbed was easy. Between the tow truck driver and I we were able to push it and steer it into the alley, where he could then pull it onto the flatbed easily.

Now I wait for the phone call telling me to empty my life savings  :frown:

hooked up a charger, and put a garbage bag over the drivers side rear door window, which opened itself overnight. i left the ignition on in my haste to order a window regulator last night.

I hate when that happens.

FINALLY got my t-stat and temp sensor changed out. Wanted to do it myself, but weather was getting to be more of a factor, and seeing as the gas mileage was going to to hell, I booked it in to an independent shop recommended by a friend. At least the guy knew how to use the Mitchell time guide and his own experience to estimate the job right - stealership insisted on quoting me the sum of both jobs independently, no overlap (at $100/hr to boot :hissyfit:).

Strange coincidence, the guy I booked it with turns out to be the same guy who helped me out when the Montana died back in June, necessitating the purchase of the 'Voy.

T-stat had been changed once before, evidenced by the presence of the RTV around the flange. Oddly it was rated at 86 deg C (replacement part is 92 deg C). Looks like the ECT was the OEM part 12575198. Gimme a couple weeks to evaluate baseline gas mileage, then I'll throw in the PCM4 tune.

The housing itself seems to be marked the same way as the new one I got from NAPA:

Well go figure the shop put a fuse in the box to check it out and it didn't blow the fuse and it started!

Just before heading home today, decided to change the background image on the new HU. Wanted to use the real logo, but couldn't find one big enough :frown:

Installed these to replace my 2+yr old Silverstar Ultra. Only 4200K but that's ok. $69.99 before taxes, at Crappy Tire!

Today I pulled back the black rubber on all the door guides and lubed all the rollers. Now all the doors are smooth open/close no squeaks. And to think the dumb dealer use to blast that white lithium grease all over the place and the doors would still squeak. Glad I learned here how to lube the right parts

Finished up my new amp install. Tucked the remaining wires, and put all my panels back on. Can still reach the amp adjustment settings with the factory jack panel removed.

I was supposed to get my truck back but ran into some issues :frown:

Good news: they found my fuel pump is not the issue but the harness was arcing inside a connector. It took a little hunting to figure it out but overall that's not too bad!

Bad news: The coolant leak is from a heater hose fitting on the engine block side which has been discontinued by GM :frown: the aftermarket hasn't started making them yet (in the works is what he was told by one). Seems weird that a part like that would be discontinued already with these trucks still made through 2009, unless the supplier of them went under. This sucks. The apparently more minor issue turns into the bigger problem. Story of my life!

Would a fitting from a newer year work, did they search? Has the part number been superceeded? Seems strange.

Sparky, RH side fitting (Passenger) GM # 12598077
LH side GM# 12567908

Avail from Tenessee warehouse, 3 days away for my local dealer. If you want me to order them let me know, you can Paypal me.

Perhaps your local dealer can get them, if not.....gimme a shout.

Pulled the driveshaft and greased the inside of the yoke.

Tightened a couple control arms for the rear axle...thought they were tight. :blinkhuh:

I'm not sure which one it is. Are those the ones coming off the block? Maybe he was trying around locally, they aren't made and stocked anymore, though some warehouses still have some left (like you said, 3 days out). Dunno. They aren't open until Monday morning so I won't be able to get more details until then (or get my truck back hopefully!).

Any chance you can trim away about 1/2-3/4" of the hose and re-clamp it? Sounds like a hose issue, these fittings aren't known to break. Use factory clamps.

Sparky said:

Yes, they are the engine side fittings.

I don't know. I haven't seen it myself as I would have to get way underneath it to see and I couldn't, and they didn't have it on the lift at the time when I was there. He described it as the fitting itself was rusted/corroded and not the hose leaking. Every time I've had them replace a part they always show me the old stuff and what was wrong with it.

On another note, since I'm not going anywhere today (for the first time in forever) I thought I'd finally finish up my headlights. But no, I can't because I need to check the wiring of the front turn signal sockets since they aren't standard wiring for some reason  So much for that idea.

I will almost guarantee that yours is SRCK like mine. Very weird that they did some SRCK and the rest "normal".

Rears are SRCK, fronts are... heck I dunno, wrong  They aren't wired like the wiring diagram says they are. The wire colors are in the wrong spots but it still works. I don't remember exactly how they are but I'm 99% sure they aren't even SRCK. I thought it might be a 2002 weirdness but I see you have a 2002 also, so... Maybe they are SRCK and I'm just remembering wrong. But that's why I want to double check it all before I wire it all up.

LS9  $22,516.95 to be exact...

I wouldn't hesitate to throw that in the front of my truck. Then I would take the voy to Indy and race JRSS :wootwoot:

With the same money you could probably buy an LS3 block and build a stronger motor though. 4L Whipple anyone?

You'd whip my ass!! Yea you definitely need a beefed up tranny for the ls9.

It would be out of pure fun!! But it will NEVER happen so no worries  I might get lucky enough to stick an LS2 in it and match the SS, which would still make the voy a sleeper. And yes, I think any bigger of an engine than our 4.2's would require tranny work.

Nah I have the same tranny behind my 5.3. It would probably stress over an LS2, but beefing it up to a 4L65 (what I plan to do later) should let it handle quite a bit more hp.

Yeah, I think I would probably beef the tranny up before putting anything like the LS2 in it.

Have you changed bulbs in them? If you haven't, put a normal 3157 bulb in and see if it blows the fuse...if it does, it's SRCK.
