I like trying different styles with my lawn. It's a little difficult with a fence and currently without a weedeater or edger, and I'm doing it with a push mower, but I've done some interesting things. Right now the larger lawn is trimmed parallel to the way the street runs. And then there's this example, which managed to get captured and show up on Google Maps!
It looked good in person, I don't have a rake so the stripes are from the trimmings.
