New Air Intake, SS rear door panels, and possibly Water temp gauge should be coming today. Plan on heat wrapping intake [emoji106]

(Possibly willing to sell the Airaid intake I currently have, if this one seems a bit better)

What intake did you get?

EBay one man, attaches straight to throttle body unlike my Airaid. Its chrome, but I'm heat wrapping it. Intakes IMO are all the same performance wise minus true Ram Air Intakes. I just want something else that I can later modify to be a Ram Air once I remove the washer tank

I'm surprised you and Brandon didn't fab up a home brew one. Woulda been much cheaper, and I'm sure between the both of you, you have the tools to knock that out pretty quickly.

We've been too busy every time fixing something with my rig. Now I have to get a new radiator... He has an EBay one too, pretty much same as I ordered. We did have a project planned, but its been put on the back burner for a few months. Soon enough we'll probably fab one up on his or mine, or both.

I thought about it several times, but figure the opened stock intake has served me well and the next step for me would be a snorkel but need to find a sealed inline filter that flows enough air and is not super pricey

Never seen a TB with a snorkel, I think that'd be an awesome project for you bud

There are a few floating around, but I do not really want pvc and finding something that really fits up the pillar is not so simple

I am sure, if you guys are gonna build one, you'll be building a second one shortly after it. Are you going to do a hood swap with one that has the built in air channel to the stock box location, or mod an air box to feed from the vent in the SS grille?

I've thought about closing the stock air inlet, cutting a vent in my crossbar where that hole in the headlight and header panel are, and route some tubing to a hole in the airbox. After the incident with my IAT sensor last week, I saw how high my temps got after everything in the engine bay had gotten heat soaked (the sensor had been missing beforehand) I need to make it a point to see what my temps look like after evening rush hour. In the mornings, they never get more than 15 degrees above ambient.

What alternate materials you thinking about using? :undecided:

I do plan on getting a Ram Air Hood at some point when I can afford to spend money on one and not be hurting. I've had my eye on one for a while that is truly functional and that also channels hot air out the engine as well with vents in the rear of the hood. I would like to experiment somehow on channeling air from the cutout in the SS Grill utilizing the open space in the headlight. I just don't know how to go about it. Like I posted in my new thread yesterday, I'm concerned about how hot it feels under my hood as of late, its hotter than it usually felt. And now i have a strong possibility of trans fluid mixing with the coolant, I'm fearful of damage. I need to replace my radiator and focus on better ways to cool everything under the hood. Best would be the Ram Air Hood, but the one I have my eye on is not cheap

Credit Cards are the devil

My Dad always told me: "son, never try to own a credit card, if you do, only have one for emergencies"

The Hood will honestly probably be last on the list of modding ideas only because its so costly

The left (kidney) grill on the Saab goes straight into the intake. It's like an opened up version of the ss headlight flow.

If I look through there, I can see the filter. Saab also added a few plastic pieces that block off the intake from the radiator side and top (core support area)

My IAT stays close to ambient even with the open top intake shield (like k&n). The shield seals really well against the hood though.

I would likely have never done a hood except it was cheap and a cowl hood was a dream to have on a rig for a couple decades.

That's awesome that Saab did that, makes more sense. I plan on taking the heat shield from my Airaid intake and seeing if I can make it work with this EBay intake somehow, that along with the heat wrap should do well to defer absorbing heat

I pay the statement balance each month. Card works for me as I get over $200 a year back in rewards points. Joke is on them as I don't pay a penny in interest.

It actually helps keep me on track within my budget as I have a constant running total, vs paying cash for a lot of stuff and losing track of that.

The gap in the headlight and header panel is already there, and since you now have an SS grille, the pathway is open. All you'd have to do is mod the air filter cover box. I, like many others still using the stock box, took a Dremel to it and cut out the resonators. Then run some sort of tube or pipe from the opening behind the headlight to the air box. Possibly just cutting a hole there and filling the stock hole location would be enough.

I am assuming your Airraid box has an open front and passenger side right? Or that might be the K&N I'm thinking of. If so, you might not have to add anything to it, since the air could flow directly from the grille vent, through the headlight and header panel to the filter. Maybe do some trimming of the plastic on the header panel to restrict less airflow through there. Just have to eyeball it and see how it looks.

I know the gap is there and easily accessible now [emoji14]
My Airaid doesn't have an air filter box, its all open with just a heat shield. With this new intake I bought, the air filter will be even closer to the gap in the header panel & headlight, I just need to figure out how I wanna more directly get air pointed right at the filter. Like a cone shaped something or other lol. The stock air box won't fit over this intake & filter so that won't work in terms of going the route of modding that

Must be a Aero 6.0 thing because my 5.3 only has a stubby snorkel next to the radiator.

I was just showing the plastic parts. Will get a pic of the straight through.

Edit: added pic (I put a blue shop towel over the filter to make it easier to see)

Lol maybe they figure that price because of the engine & trans?

Probably.

"Runs and drives." Yeah not very well, that passenger side is nailed good and that suspension is all messed up.

Well, look at it this way. If I were to get a similar parts truck locally and throw that drivetrain in the other parts 9-7x I just picked up, I'd basically have an Aero for around $7500 CAD ($5700 US). Minus selling off some parts, it would be a pretty good deal for an Aero that usually go for between $12-$14K CAD.

How much does a drivetrain by itself go for usually?

Yeah the price of the TBSS are coming down rather quickly. I have seen a few in good shape for as low as 6k RTR. WTF are they thinking? The price of LS motors are starting to come down too, there are millions of them WTF are people paying 3-5k for them?? SMFH

Never seen a TBSS that low of a price. The ones I have seen on EBay, FB, Craigs list, cars.com that are for sale, range from $12k all the way up to $28K. Mileage ranged from 30k miles to 150k miles. Stock SS to many go fast parts.

TBSSs seem to hover around the 8-12k mark around here.

Would rather find a good body one and drop in a huge big block than fix the body on an SS
