InterestingBlckshdw said:Hey you guys, don't these Acura MDX LED headlights look like they'd be a good fit in TB headlights? Hmmm... Oh wait, I still have 2 other retrofits I haven't finished yet. My bad! [emoji3]
The kit (projectors, shrouds, and drivers) costs $600 but don't mind that.
That's just lame.. Lol. I'm thinking about adding the middle center one to mine..dmanns67 said:Thats the old school style. Mine are lined up down the middle.
You don't know how much I spent building my first retro, due to bright ideas burning out. Just the stuff from TRS alone cost me that much. Factor in all the switchback stuff, vacuum forming table, acrylic sheets, smoked corner lenses after that... My wallet hurts thinking about it.Capote said:$600....eff that bro, more power to ya Carlton
dmanns67 said:Interesting
I have seen many MDX in person and their headlights are very bright, have a sharp cutoff, and from a distance, appear to have some color for the flicker.
I am definitely interested seeing how you are going to retro those into a TB house. You will definitely be the first.
More LED mods = better Maybe I'm slightly biased though...Midnyteryder196 said:That's just lame.. Lol. I'm thinking about adding the middle center one to mine..
I did not know if you planned to completely take the MDX headlights apart and try to pack (2) of the LED housings into the low beams and (2) into the high beams. I am assuming they are bi-xenon I do not recall seeing an additional reflector housing on the MDX.Blckshdw said:You don't know how much I spent building my first retro, due to bright ideas burning out. Yeah, the first time I saw TRS selling a set of them, they look like they're the right shape to fit into our headlights minus the reflector bowl, just have to figure out a way to mount them onto a bracket and align them properly. This will just go on the long list of "wouldn't it be cool if I could..."

I do not see what the problem isDarkrider_LS said:Damn it I'm looking at hid kits for the Camry again
The problem is picking the right kit lol, watched a hid install video on a 7th Gen Camry last night and l learned there apparently is a small nook or empty space in each inner fender support...which conveniently works for ballast mounting...i suspect that area is used for the OE ballast on Camrys with factory hid.dmanns67 said:I did not know if you planned to completely take the MDX headlights apart and try to pack (2) of the LED housings into the low beams and (2) into the high beams. I do not see what the problem is [emoji14]opcorn:
The 3 lenses on the outside are low beam, the 2 inside ones are high beam, so similar output setup to how our separate reflector bowls are. The driver has 3 inputs, low beam, high beam, DRL, and common ground, so the connections are pretty simple electrically speaking.dmanns67 said:I did not know if you planned to completely take the MDX headlights apart and try to pack (2) of the LED housings into the low beams and (2) into the high beams. Morimoto or bust.Darkrider_LS said:The problem is picking the right kit lol, watched a hid install video on a 7th Gen Camry last night and l learned there apparently is a small nook or empty space in each inner fender support...which conveniently works for ballast mounting...i suspect that area is used for the OE ballast on Camrys with factory hid.

Not that I am aware of. I have seen SS clone builds where guys dyed their headliner black.Capote said:Did GM ever make black headliners for our GMT's?
It's not as intimidating as it appears. Take one of your current bulbs out and look at the number so you know for sure what bulb to get and then but a kit. It's pretty much pnp. If you have a dedicated high beam that turns the projector off when it's on (like TB halogen setups) you'll wanna figure out a 4-hi mod.Darkrider_LS said:The problem is picking the right kit lol, watched a hid install video on a 7th Gen Camry last night and l learned there apparently is a small nook or empty space in each inner fender support...which conveniently works for ballast mounting...i suspect that area is used for the OE ballast on Camrys with factory hid.
Keep leaning that way but have looked at Xenondepot and Xenon Supply as well.Sparky said:Morimoto or bust.
See above on that...at least I'm not looking at ddm loldmanns67 said:Morimoto FTW.

I have installed kits before....hell if it wasn't for the fact that my supplier is having mfg issues atm I would be running one of my own kits. Sparky and David caught what I ment with trying to choose what brand to go with. The Camry uses H11s in the low beams and has factory 4 high.Mounce said:It's not as intimidating as it appears. All IMO.
Ok. MORIMOTO FTMFWDarkrider_LS said:See above on that...at least I'm not looking at ddm lol
Def going to look at them again and maybe order some Phillips 4300k bulbs from xenondepot. Since apparently those bulbs color shift to around 4700 when they are broken in and have a close appearance to OE hids.dmanns67 said:Ok. MORIMOTO FTMFW
All HID bulbs color shift. Typically after the first 1,000 hours of use from what I have read. As the HID's use increases, the electrodes inside of glass tube start to wear. Eventually every HID bulb will start to color shift up the kelvin scale until the electrodes are so worn, the ballast is not able to strike an arc. Along with color shift up the scale, you also start to lose lumens as well. Thats why I say 4300K is the best to start with. They will color shift to more white with less loss of lumen. You start with 6000K or higher, you will see more blue/purple over time and a lot more lumen loss.Darkrider_LS said:Def going to look at them again and maybe order some Phillips 4300k bulbs from xenondepot. Philips makes H11 halogen bulbs, not HIDs. I would avoid those as you are getting some kit that they threw the Philips name on. Do you have a link Rider?Mounce said:Phillips makes an H11 HID bulb? I thought those big name brands only made the d2_ bulbs.

Xenondepot sells Phillips bulbs and that have had the base changed to the H11 base. I will post links to both the seller and the review on Toyotanation where I learned about them when I get back to my computer.Mounce said:Phillips makes an H11 HID bulb? Exactly!Mounce said:Oh I gotcha now. Phillips capsules on H11 bases assembled by a third party, not Phillips. I've seen the capsules for sale.
Most likely i could see myself going with a Morimoto kit but running the Phillips bulbs from XD.Mounce said:Not banging that brand since you seem to be liking it...but....
