What does it SAY about a site where nobody wants to be a public moderator - just sneak around and anonymously off people in the dark?

It says that we are a bigger threat then they like to admit. They know as soon as we find out who is sneaking around doing the dirty work, their job is going to be much harder. Look at what happened with the determined mod that acted just the same as tinyjohnson is now... he did it for a short period then came here begging us to leave him alone. Combined with our relentless pursuit to actually help people, he also started to see the ways of Vertical Scope. If my memory serves me correctly, the other mod, at that time, was also just about to come join the private conversations here, but he decided to instead speak through the first defector.

As far as the stats go, we've become self sufficient in terms of new registrations and traffic sources. For a while, TrailVoy was one of the main sources of traffic and new members, but that was due mostly to the fact that we needed to be sure that people were helped appropriately. Now, TrailVoy isn't even in the top 10 in terms of traffic sources for GMTNation. Hell, even TBSSOwners is in the top 10 along with the big 3 search engines, and a LOT of Tapatalk users. ORTB was in the top 10 as well.

And I tell everyone about the site that I imagined, designed, built, maintain, own, and control with an iron fist! So thats gotta put me in the top 10 too.

Maybe if we can identify the most popular reasons their members come here (either by chance or as the result of our communication with them), we can improve these stats.

Didn't we have a "How did you hear about us" thread? I remember something like that because the staff was having to edit out the names of the referrers to keep their identities a secret.

The posts that were deleted were the ones from those of us who got a little carried away during our exit. Nothing technical/helpful/etc was deleted. If anything, the deleted posts resulted in less work for the admins. We're still the bad guys though.

What really tee'd me off about those particular guys was that they were just pretending to be technical guys. One went from posting about using the trip reset button to reset the change oil light into an ignition switch guru almost overnight. I remember googling their replies and constantly getting hits that were posts from the roadie. They even used his roadiestyle words. How someone could do that is, well, inconceivable.

Another fun fact - we learned who the other mod was, and not a single staff member has ever told anyone or has held that against him to this day. I've even chimed in on some of his threads. The point of this is that we don't hold personal grudges against those who willingly or unwillingly helped the other site. If magicjohnson gave up and joined this site there wouldn't be any bad blood - he would of course have to follow the rules of site which to a degree includes not being a peckerhead toward other members.

Yeah, some members got a little carried away, and the posts we were deleting were from some of the over excited members that were happy that they were able to escape the advertisements. We didn't delete any content that would have been helpful to a member. I caught shit because I deleted posts that people made bashing the site and VS. The one thing they did get correct is that I altered, at the request of each and every member, some signatures to make mention of the new site.

The things they claim I disabled or turned off were turned off long before we left... that was the point of me trying to make improvements over there. They didn't know how bad it was until I was gone and they had to have someone else come in and figure out what needed attention and what was broken. If we had truly sabotaged them, don't you think they would have tried to sue us? That's why the site is in Drayton's name!

What really tee'd me off about those particular guys was that they were just pretending to be technical guys. One went from posting about using the trip reset button to reset the change oil light into an ignition switch guru almost overnight. And to this day we still don't care who is trying to clean the place up... we just know it will NEVER be what it was. If we had the ability to demand that all of our posts be removed from their database, their site would contain next to nothing helpful to anyone.

But hey, here we are, it all worked out for the best.

I made a shill account and it was banned within a few minutes. So the system no longer auto approves new users. Now I wonder if I was found out through IP address or what.

I'm betting the IP address is what they used. I just signed up on SSOwners the other day, and it took 2 days for them to approve my account. At first I thought I missed a setting somewhere, cuz I couldn't do a damn thing!! :banghead:

I like how everything is marked as solved even with no replies. My anti spam replies are now hidden, leaving the spam to run the show. I'm listed as the last person on the topic though. They're happier to let spam hang around. The depths of VS' depravity know no bounds.

This is for one particular Admin.

Just want to say Hi Stew! Because we all know you are watching.

Thanks for the great members that have jumped ship from your wreck of a site!

I would think they don't delete posts, just hide them. All posts count toward your post counts, the higher the count the more the relevance. A bot doesn't care if its spam or not.

Trailvoy (and other sites, to be sure) use cookies AND IP address AND email address (and other secret sauce) to feed the ban or ignore filter.

To run a proper shill, you have to choose a username unrelated to any of us bad folks, use a new throwaway email address with the same attributes, delete all trailvoy cookies, and run through an anonymous proxy for all your visits. You can be sure this recent activity has them all on edge, and all new sign-ups are going to be scrutinized for a while. Let the sleeping bear go back to sleep.

If they're sophisticated, they may have the IPs of the common anonymizing services mapped out and also banned. You might have to set up your own or have somebody in the industry do it for you. Or VPN to your workplace and tunnel in from there, but that has risks.

If they promoted him to be the new secret mod, he can log in using stealth mode and not be seen. Perfect tactic for the chickenshit.

On another subject, we're only 27 months old, and have 20% of their post count with about 5% the membership numbers. Guess we got the active ones, eh?

I'm still astonished anybody contributes money to those hogs, thinking they're benefitting some "community" with their gift. It's like throwing coins in the hat of Bernie Madoff.

I never donated to there, but I have donated here because:

1.) It doesn't require membership to do everything. Allowing people to lurk allows them to become comfortable and acclimated to the place before making an account and acknowledging their presence. Also cuts down a bit on repeat questions.

2.) All the major enthusiasts moved here, so this is already the premier resource as I see it.

3.) This site doesn't already get all Scrooge McDuck in ads alone. One at the top, one at the bottom, enough to help cover bandwidth is about all I see.

It just struck me.....the way one normally gets invited to be a mod is to prove that one cares about the mission of the site, and has a bit of empathy or technical talent, and also the time to devote to care and feeding of the noob crop.

If the goofballs asking to be mods back there weren't feeling so all-important and entitled, they would have ALREADY been caring for the noobs, especially by welcoming them in the Intro treads. But no.......it's just tumbleweeds. And the Admin is an asshat - asking who wants to be a mod instead of looking to see who has those important attributes it takes to be a good mod. Unfortunately for him - we got 'em all.

"Hello IllogicTC,

It appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks. Please take a few moments to perhaps ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums. Thanks!"

Oh no, please, help us clear out the cobwebs! Feel free to wander around and ring up our advertising invoice to the companies involved!

A necessary evil, but I'm going to prowl for some potential recruiting.

Also, the registration no longer allows "GMTNation" :rotfl:

I donated when it was run by a helpful staff who used the money for the good of the site. They also sent decals.

Wait, did he even read the post.

This gives me a sneaky idea, however it would be better reserved for PM or the OT thread for premo users (yes i need to donate again).

That time is long gone. They continue to LIE about the stickers, and the "good of the site" and all that rot. Lousy, stinking, liars. They even keep billing you for the premium membership if they BAN YOU!

We don't quite believe in auto-renew. They DEPEND on it!
