Once again I find the benefit of having a parts truck sitting in my garage. The fan clutch on the old truck was bad, however I was able to re-purpose the water pump and belt. I tore it all down yesterday afternoon, and discovered that I was missing a necessary in my collection, that of course made for a good excuse to head to Fort Wayne to pick up a in-lbs torque wrench to make sure I got the water pump installed correctly.
My brother took me in, got the wrench as well as a new battery for my truck, and we decided to hit up Red Lobster for all you can eat shrimp and then went to watch Expendables 2. This delay of course meant that I didn't get back to put my truck back together until 1130pm. I had it completely re-assembled and test drove by 1am, and then it was time for a few beers.

seen this at work. Pretty cool!!
This was actually the reason for the 1am work session on the Envoy. I needed to be back up and running to get the kids into Fort Wayne for the Air show that was going on Saturday and Sunday. It was a very long day but the kids had a blast and that's ultimately all that matters.
On static display were a B-25, C-130, C-5 (we walked through the open bay as well as got to go up into the crew quarters and sit in the cockpit), KC-135, KC-10, a few Warbirds, P-51, C-21A, and a Blackhawk helicopter. For the air show they had the normal compliment of acrobatic planes, there was even an acrobatic helicopter that did barrel rolls and flew backwards. But the real magic was when military aircraft came in. The Air Guard that hosted the show an A10 wing, so of course the were prominently on display. They put on a real nice pyrotechnics display on some of their "gun runs", it made for a fun show for the kids. They also had a F-16 and F-14 fly through a few times and the B-25 was up as well and did their own "gun runs" with full pyrotechnics. The star of the show though was the F-22. This is the first time I have seen this plane in person and it was certainly a beautiful site. The handling of this plane was phenomenal. The F-22 and one of the Warbird's put on a show together as well. It was pretty neat to see the contrast between the old and the new. The Army's Golden Knights parachute team also showed up for a few jumps and put on a good show.
Even better then the kids having a good time, this was a bit of a trial by fire for me. About a year ago I decided it was time to come to terms with my issues left over from a few combat deployments when I was in the Army. I have started seeing the mental health clinic at my local VA and been getting treated for PTSD. A year ago I would not have even thought about going out, but I have been feeling a bit more comfortable in larger crowds so I figured I would give it a shot. It was very difficult when the A-10's come in, it certainly gave me a few flash backs. Otherwise the rest of the show went real well for me. The difficulties came with the hour and a half wait in line to get onto the shuttle buses to go back to the satellite parking lots. With thousands people shoulder to shoulder that was an environment I certainly wasn't comfortable with. I can promise you that my paranoia was running rampant! I am very glad to be back home behind locked doors with a few cold beers to try to calm the nerves.
