Ddonnie and MrPhoenix also did red LEDs in their interior. For me, I chose blue, cuz it's my favorite color. If it wasn't considered cool by the masses....

i guess i could have asked that better, sorry my fault. what is the deal with the wattage? I mean like the 1/4 or more, is that just to limit the power through them?

If you have the specs for the LEDs, google LED resistor calculator or something similar, then you plug your numbers into it and it tells you what resistor to use.

Resistor wattage is the max power a resistor can dissipate without burning up. When you put a resistor in, the electricity it resists turns to heat inside it. Too small a resistor and it will get too hot and burn up, and your LEDs will go out.

Thanks sparky! That's exactly what I needed to know. I was probably confusing everyone. Now I will have to post pictures when I get some done!!!

Thanks to everyone for the information! That is hopefully gonna make this easier!!!

OK... hopefully the last dumb question. I have run the numbers and it tells me I need a 680 ohm 1/4 watt resistor, My local radio shack has 680 ohm 1/2 watt resistors, will that work, or do I need to order some 1/4 watt ones?

Why the hate? With only two equations, and simple math, led calculations are easier than doing taxes. Just understand the analogy: voltage is like water pressure. Current is like gallons per minute flow rate. Power (Watts) is pressure times flow rate, which is like how fast you can fill a hot tub. Bigger hose (less resistance) with more pressure fills your tub faster.

Stupid noob question time!!!

I have a set of Xenon HID 9006 headlights courtesy of Mr. DManns67, but my hi-beams are stock. I also have the quad hi mod - courtesy of MAY03LT, so when I kick my brights on it looks goofy as the hi-beams are a sickly pale yellow compared to the HID's. been wanting to replace the hi-beam bulbs with CREE LED's, so can I just buy some 9005 Cree LED's and slap'em in? These are what I was thinking of getting.. Yes? No? HELP!!

Thanks Y'all!

Yes you can. Basically treat them just like HIDs.

Edit: Just looked at the link. Those PnP bulbs probably won't put out much usble light. You need to get the high powered Crees, like the ones Kevin (dfwwiz) sells.

Cool-you said treat them like HID's - Does that mean that I need ballasts for them? I didn't think LEDs required them, only resistors for flashers... :undecided:

You could.. But why not spend an extra 50 bucks and get the cree led that dfwwiz is selling? Check out the cree led headlight thread for more info..
Awesome, gentlemen! Thanks for the input. I will check that thread out post-haste.

Ever since an early age(4 or 5 I think) I have had a bad relationship with electricity(tweezers in an outlet)! I have a good knowledge of everyday electronics in a vehicle, but always cautious of doing something stupid with electrical stuff...don"t need to start another fire in a car...but that's another story... :rotfl:

To get the light output match you need to go with DFWWIZ. He also stands by his products like no other.

That is the equivalent of asking what sneaker you should wear. No single correct answer, and comes down to personal preference and experiences. As long as they can melt solder where you tell it to, it will be fine. Just have to flip a coin, try one, and see how you like it as you learn how to work with it. :twocents:
