Aarkon's Build Thread

Yes the H1 is bixenon. If you're on a budget, you can get some of TRS' B-stock H1s from their closeout section. Then when you get the itch to upgrade, you can spend a little more money and get some higher rated projectors :twocents:

Badass. I have been contemplating this mod for a while now. Can't wait to see the finished product. This might make me get going on my fog light retro.

I just hate them being blacked out cause the light output looks crappy at night but it looks good during the day when they are off I'd rather just do projectors and black out the bowels instead

Anytime you black out a lens you are going to lose light output.

At least with a projector you can black out shroud and reflector. Same when you do the headlights.

Well for me it wasnt the output as much as the discoloration and not matching my headlights

I know what you mean. I am on my 3rd set of fog lights. This set is starting to get moisture on the inside, so looks like I will be buying a 4th set

Ya im in the same boat the only reason mine are still black is because once I took of the paint the first time they where all gazed must have been cheap plastic and they where full of water so dont buy the spyder fogs they are junk im glad I still have my oe ones to cut open

Haha. Funny you say that, I currently have Spyders installed right now. They have lasted for maybe a year and a half. I still have my OE fogs in a box in the basement.

Ha as soon as you said water it made me think of the ones I have you should definitely use you oe ones for the retrofit ive notice you cant even align these aftermarket ones at all

You can change the up and down adjustment screw in the back prior to install. My OEs are in rough shape. Lens is slightly yellow and knicks and scratches in the lens from road debris.

I have to say though, our OE fogs are amazing with HID bulbs in them. They do a great job lighting up the road in front and to the side of the vehicle.

:duh: Well I guess the secret is out, and then some? Although if I was getting a new toy, I'd probably be telling everyone about it too.

Riding somewhat stock with PnP HIDs does kinda suck, but I did notice last night, the glare did make drivers move out of my way when I was rolling up behind them. :satan:

Well don't hold your breath, I haven't made up my mind yet. Last time I bought stuff, it was during their Black Friday sale, although their Labor Day one would work if I knew WTH I wanted to do next.

That's the problem with some many options. I thought about picking up some XB35 D2S bulbs, but then decided against it since I have another set of 3Five D2S in my desk.

Damn I'd take them if I had the ballasts

Likewise....wish I had the equipment (heat gun or old oven) to take on this sort of mod but that's just a pipe dream...are there any projectors out there that use a 9006 bulb?

You can use your regular oven for opening headlights. I baked my Eagle Eyes ones at 225 for about 20-25 minutes, and they opened right up. Laid them face down on a piece of card board. Pretty easy really. It's the OEM ones that are a bitch.

9006 bulbs are made for reflector bowls, they don't have the right focal point design for projectors.

That is the problem...i do not have an oven i can use without the roommates wanting to kill me for it lol...and hmmm...well i spose if i get a retrofit of somesort even if it means i end up ordering them through smitty on here or some other vendor (or member) i could always use that as my excuse to move my Cree LED headlight set to the Blazer....was already considering it anyway since the TB is down.

At first glance, I was like :squint: "I thought you didn't have bulbs yet, and you need to check that 1 cuz it's out..." Then I realized that was just the light reflecting... :duh:

Edit: You'll have to Dremel some small notches on the inside of the bezel in the high beam spot to clear the shrouds. You'll see what I'm talking about when you get them open.

Ya I noticed that when I was looking them over lastnight cause im gonna line up and drill the adjustment holes in the back of mine

All ripped apart still gotta figure out how to get that damn butyl off
You don't. You reuse it to seal them back up.

I was hoping to get it off and just silicone it so its easier the next time

You can't bake RTV, that stuff is made to withstand high temps. You'd have to cut them open if you needed to get back in there again. If you are gonna use the Permatex Ultra black like many of us use, that stuff is rated for -65 to 500 degrees F
