Very nice, that's one of the things I love about the I6 TB's is the open space afforded by the I6, the V8s cant say that. LOL:yes:

Looks awesome!

I have a question on the space between the strut bolts and the turbo, and the reason I ask is just to cover your A$$ as well. Hard to say by the pic but is there enough clearance for the torquing of the motor? I know you thought everything through but would hate to see that there isn't enough room after the test drive.

hey thanks! and thanks for bringing that up. luckily I have a good 3+ inches of room there...I know the pic is not too clear.
That would be a disaster haha
I had used a support attached to one of the two 18mm bolt there but I might reconsider. I need to find a better mount to the engine though so it moves with the engine. The one I have is just temporary while I finish welding it all up.

Ugh Id never do a rear mount anything, just my .02. Especially since the V8s in our trucks can just as easily get a Magnacharger, Procharger, etc and make real power. Unfortunately, turbo kits are still fab-your-own for the time being. :frown:

But a 5.3 with a cam and a Magnacharger at 6-8psi will do some damage, at least ~400-450+ at the rear wheels.

I have no qualms with doing a rear mount as long as the vehicle has plenty of room for everything underneath it. A trailblazer at first glance looks like a good one for it, that resonator area would make a great "tucked up in" turbo area.... but in any case with a rear mount, proper piping sizes, a good proper sized intercooler, and a dedicated oiling system are a must to make them worth the time. If you size everything correctly and get some good tuning you can make them pretty efficient really.

As far as I6 vs. V8 360 platform's go any turbo would be build/ fab your own, so if you got the V8 go with a super/ procharger and keep the hassle to a minimum.

Us I6 guys will settle for homemade turbo setups.

haha nah its all been on a budget (except the turbo build) really the LEDs are cheap the seats arent too bad, the exhaust was like $600 did all the welding my self... hids were under 200 for everything including turn signals...TIME is the major factor. I literally have over 200+ hours spent working on this car.
but I am finishing college up so I am paying that too. It was mac n cheese and ramen noodle soup for the last few years most of the time! but was definitely worth it. I can't wait to see your voy mods man

well after test driving my buddies car (240sx) with brand new Dunlop Direzza's on it I AM NOT GETTING THEM. Weather was nice today and I have driven in a lot of bad weather and autocross events 30+ drift events, and those dunlops were the WORST tire I have ever been on ! (including a friends 98 turbo camaro with slicks in the rain)

I am going to order Cooper Xst-a v-speed rated summer tires tomorrow instead.

I am running Cooper LSX. The ride is great and performs well in all weather. Better than my Michelin and Goodyear tires I have used

From experience in my past adventures in life.....

What PSI are you planning on running? Only reason I ask is with that many rubber couplers and t bolt clamps your opening up that setup for multiple failure points. I would try to have a few of the connections welded together and the few you do need to have, bead roll the pipe or have v band clamps with gaskets ends installed onto them. A modest 7-8 psi would probably be ok, but anything higher than that we kept having connections blow off without doing one of the above.

hey thanks for the concerns. I too feel the same way as you. I am running 3-8 psi 8 being MAX...that is the only reason I decided just to use the silicone+t bolts. haha on a different build, my friend was running 28 psi and blew the silicone hoses off in the middle of a very important money run. Then I convinced him to just have the aluminum welded and all was well.

Going to plate those pipes? or just heat wrap them?

good question I dont know yet. ceramic coat possibly? I am unsure about using heat wrap. The last time I heat wrapped a turbo application the pipes rotted much quicker... what do you suggest?

they are too big to use vht header coat because I cant fit them in my oven haha

Yeah wrap will accelerate corrosion. You want the heat OUT of the downpipe anyway, not in.
It'd probably be about $100 to ceramic coat the downpipe if you can find a local place.

Believe it or not, I've actually had good luck with high-temp ceramic aerosol paint. I painted my bare mild steel downpipe and cat-back on my Supra about 10 years ago. Got a little bit of surface rust on the welds, but not bad. Especially for a $5 spray bomb!

Well still waiting for parts to come in so I don't have much to do as of right now ....

So today I hooked up my vacuum block to the intake manifold port and then I ran one of the ports to my boost gauge using the 4mm silicone hosing.

The other port is for the HKS blow off valve once it is all put together.
(Hose still needs to be put on all the way but I am waiting for some clamps before I do that )

Too legit to quit...

haha thanks

Today I deleted the heater system. I bought a 1ft section of 5/8 hose and attached the outlet/inlet hoses together bypassing the heater core. Now I have PLENTY of room to comfortably and safely put the wastegates in this week when the flanges get here I cant wait.

I also chopped the original turbo flange also and had a new one machined and now I just need to weld the new one up tmrw and this works out since I will need an extra turbo flange to pipe my test exhaust from the flange out the side of the open hood when I fire it up without the turbo and make sure everything is working correctly.

What a crazy project this thing has become. My "budget" at the beginning was $1000  I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO ...:dielaugh:

(pics later tonight or tmrw)
