After 4 months of drought conditions here in the West Coast RAIN Forest, we got some heavy rain last night, which should help slow down the huge number of forest fires that are still burning. Today the rain was horizontal, pushed by winds hitting nearly 120 km/hr (80 mph), which toppled literally thousands of trees, since they're still fully leafed, and couldn't take the hit, and left 400,000 people without power for most of the day. It finally calmed down about 7 this evening, but traffic is still chaos, with lights out all over the valley.
