On tap for today: 2022 Nissan Pathfinder with the 3.5 engine.

Oil and filter change, engine air filter, cabin air filter, clean MAF sensor, complete inspection under vehicle and in engine compartment, oil change sticker on w/s and reset oil change maintenance light at the dash.

The work went as planned. The engine air filter had some pine needles and straw on it and in the air box and because of the MAF sensor location, had to remove the air box top for access and the cowling was fun to deal with, but doable. The cabin air filter was easy enough and filthy. Last oil change done at dealer, left 3 clips off that holds the undercarriage shield, that has to be removed for filter access. I replaced from an assortment that I keep handy. Cleaned the front of the throttle while it was exposed. under hood and under carriage inspection showed no problems. Shouldn't because it has 27k miles on it. 5.1 quarts of 0w-20 Valvoline full synthetic oil and a Wix XP filter. Reset oil change reminder and installed a sticker on the w/s.

If anyone knows of anyone that owns one of these gen Pathfinders, with the 3.5 engine, that oil dipstick location is a huge PITA. There is a "V" shaped metal guide pad that aligns the end of dipstick with the hole and the upper hard part of the dipstick has a 45 degree bend to allow clearance. You have to look hard for a chance to see the hole the stick goes in.

Ran some errands this morning. They want to have level 2 background checks done for staff at work, so went and got my finger printing done while I was out. Stopped by Harbor Freight for a couple of things Had been wanting one of those padded roller seats for years, so I could stop sitting on 5 gallon buckets and a folded up towel. SOOO much nicer!

Also grabbed some rough cut sawzall blades, since I burned through a bunch of my standard ones cutting through some tree roots to get some ethernet cables buried in the yard last week. Had also used my cheap pole saw with that, and of course dulled the chain pretty quickly, so also got a chain saw file set.

Stopped by the grocery store before heading home to do some work on the TB, post about that coming later.

Ran around like a blue arsed fly today.

Headed out at 8:30 this morning to get the grocery shopping done before the crowds descend. Headed north to pick up a driver shaft I had a different adapter put on and also a set of irons I had the original shafts put on, hit some balls while I was there.

Got some of Sam's favourite apple pie going (IYNYK ) and making a pavlova for Mothers Day, drinking bourbon and playing bogan funk. Life is pretty good right now.

Miss having a meet with you fellas.

I did a round trip this weekend to see my aging parents and one of my brothers. Was a worthwhile trip. Helped out around the house and a great visit. I took the WL Grand Cherokee and it apparently did fine. Managed just over 23mpg while the old Trailblazer could maybe hit 19..... regardless, trip was great.

Ongoing 2 piece driveshaft problems on a neighbors 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 crew cab 5.7 gas engine. Not to long ago the carrier bearing came completely apart but the shop that did that work did not look too close at the u-joints. The center joint is trashed. Makes sense since that is the one right at the carrier bearing. Took the driveshaft assembly out after staking/indexing the joints. Driveline company doing all 3 joints tomorrow after I drop the assembly off at 8 a.m. My neighbor needs his truck. This is the same truck I put the steering linkage assembly in along with a shimmy shock. I had told him a while back that I could hear a U-joint squeak and he said the carrier bearing mechanic did not say anything so it must be good.

Dropped off the 2 piece driveline this morning at 8 a.m. They called me an hour later and said was done. By 10:45, had the drivelines home and installed and road tested.

Yeah, those u joints have seen better days, thats for sure.

Knock on wood, the joints in my 2017 3500 have been good. Also glad it has the single piece aluminum driveshaft.

The owner picked up the truck at 1:30 and immediately took for a road test. I told him to hold payment till he came back. He was back in 20 minutes and smiling from ear to ear and could not pay me fast enough.

His plan is to now look for a month or two for another vehicle and then sell the truck. He does not need this size truck. He does not use it for work. He can get by with a 1/2 ton or smaller but does want/need an ext cab or crew cab. He can get an SUV too. He asked for help looking for a replacement. I told him that I only look for GM products or Toyota.

Today, landlord's son will be here in about 1 hour to get an oil change done on his 2022 Toyota Prius. He lives about 50 miles round trip from here and he drives to different work sites for his Oregon Department of Transportation job. Plus coming in to see his mom and dad, just up the street. That means I change his oil about every 2-3 months. He has a 2004 Chevy Silverado K2500HD crew cab short bed, with a 6.0 engine. I sold it to him about 8 months ago. Only has 118k miles and is in excellent shape. I do oil changes on that, every 6 months. He tows with it quite a bit in his off time.

Just from my landlord and his wife, landlord's sister and her husband, son, daughter, landlord's golfing buddies and wife's friends.......
I service 12 vehicles and have posted many of those maintenance's and repairs on a thread at the Tahoe/Yukon Forum.

That doesn't count all the neighbors that add approximately, 15 other vehicles. Including recent timing chain and carb work on a 1976 Chevy K20 pickup with a manual transmission for the young firefighter down the street.

Got the oil change done, air filter looked great, cleaned the MAF, no leaks, reset maintenance reminder and installed a w/s sticker. He said he called me 2 days ago when the maintenance reminder alerted at the dash. Turns out, my w/s sticker was within 128 miles of the reminder at dash.

I made him a great deal on the truck I sold him and made him promise he would be religious about the maintenance on the truck and the Prius. He has been great about it, so far.

Another benefit....I can use the truck whenever I need to.

Thursday went with Mrs Moose to a B&B for a night, and the next day we spent the whole day at a spa. Had some nice meals and drinks and just relaxed. I especially liked the steam room. Cold baths not so much . Got home near midnight.

Saturday was the fix/maintain equipment day. The push mower needed a bit of work. New gaskets for the intake/carb and a good cleaning in the ultrasonic, new air filter, new blades, an oil change and a good pressure wash to get rid of the caked on grass. Pressure washer was next, just an oil change and it was up and running.

Today I was doing my favourite annual ritual... opening (or trying to open) the pool . Nasty surprise when I peeled back the cover. It lost a lot of water. Shallow end was almost uncovered. There must be a leak(s) in the liner. And what was left was greener than Kermit the frog. I was expecting the water level be at or over full because of all the snow and rain we've had. So after I find the leak and patch it, I'll have to get water trucked in costing between $400-500 or more now with the cost of fuel . For now, dumped a ton of chlorine to try and kill the algae. Even with the low water, I was able to prime and get the pump to try and filter out this crap. I hate the pool but the Mrs loves it

Tomorrow is a holiday so no work except trying to clean up the pool.

Its been a slow week. I took last Friday off, and this week to unplug from work and try to have some fun. Last Friday went to the beach, with the plan to do the same a couple of times this week, but Sunday evening came down with a case of tendinitis in my Achilles, which was a first.

Skipped my anticipated beach day Monday to rest, and binge watch some TV. Didn't have any improvement all week, so played Dr Web Search last night for some remedies besides ice, rest, and ibuprofen. Foam roller seemed to make things worse and more painful. Found a couple of stretches that seemed to help.

Fast forward to this morning, took some meds, sat on the couch to stretch my calf with a strap while watching TV, got up to go bring the bins back after the yard waste guys came by, and there was a lot less discomfort in my heel which was a great sign.

Stopped to talk to my neighbor about hurricane season prep, as they are getting a massive oak tree behind their house cut down. I had wheeled out my generator to do some testing with it later. Put in 1 gallon of gas, and proceeded to time how much run time I got, with the AC running, ceiling fans going, and all of the room lights on. Ran my electric counter top grill to make a burger for lunch, and watched some TV. Managed to get an hour and 10 minutes before it sputtered out. With an 8 gallon capacity in the generator, and 15 gallons worth of storage can capacity, that will serve well should the need arise this summer. I still want to get some LPG canisters to have as backups, in case we have an extended power outage like we did after Milton in 2024. Those 5 days in the heat and dark were pretty damn miserable.

Lots on the go around here. So, my youngest daughter got her license 2 weeks ago. Passed her first try but with a few deductions. She's pretty happy to say the least.

I'm prepping the 2004 Escape for sale. I cleaned it up and am waiting for a front wheel bearing from Napa. Hopefully have it listed this week. While my youngest likes it ( has been a good vehicle to us) we are keeping the Trailblazer instead.

We ran into issues on the 3500 diesel, found the e brakes were leaving the chat. Driver side lost one retaining pin and clip which were tumbling around. The passenger side lost both pins, clips, the brake linings delaminated and one shoe was dragging against the hub.

She's all back together with Bosch shows and Dorman hardware. She works great but I noticed some other items to address, one inner hub seal is weeping and one u joint expelled some grease. These are end of season items.

Smart move keeping the Trailblazer over the Ford Escape.

Linda's 2002 Trailblazer, my girl, is comfortable enough that if I ever did not have my 2005 Tahoe Z71, I would get a Trailblazer. Even at 6'4" and 290 lbs, there is plenty of comfy room for me. I do like the 4.2 and I think it is pretty easy for working on.

While our 2006 LT is seeingnits age and has some issues (body rust, abs module failed and AIR pump removed) it runs and drives like a champ. Both kids came home from the hospital in it. My youngest took her test in it.

The Ford was a bit rough around the edges, had the typical rear end rust, seeping rear diff seals, cam seal for the water pump seeping and a wheel bearing but no CEL's but was a really nice driving vehicle.

I hope to put in a new bearing again this week and get it listed. With 5 other vehicles in the yard, we can make do.

Yesterday, we just came back from North Bay from our son's wedding on Saturday. It was in a barn venue which made it really nice. Even though they have been together for 9 years and have already given us two beautiful grandchildren, they decided to tie the knot. Although it was raining outside most of the day, it's supposed to be good luck. It did clear up later for pictures. Dinner and party afterwards all went well despite the open bar . No cops were involved

Only thing that happened is that I accidentally brought back home one gift which is a Milwaukee impact and battery that I was supposed to drop off at their house. We'll figure a way to get them back there.

We took the day off today to recover and do some stuff around the house and order a new in-ground pool liner, which will be around $6200 if there are no surprises when the old liner is removed. 3-4 weeks to get that done. In the meanwhile, I have to look at how to remove the old paint from the concrete deck and repaint with something that will last more than a year.

Pay no mind to the mpg, this thing has a weird way of calculating for that. I average 18-25 depending on traffic on my commute. Not bad for an suv that weighs in just under 7k lbs.

Combination of yesterday, and today... Friday as I'm watching TV, I hear this crackling noise coming from the closet where my media server lives. As I turn my head to look, I see more light than usual from that area. Before I can say WTF, there's a bright lightning flash outside the patio, and a thunderclap loud enough to startle me.

Immediately thinking the worst, I open my laptop and look at my camera feeds, they were all frozen. I get up to look in my server closet, and sure enough PoE ethernet switch is dead. Server, router and modem were all fine. After the rain stopped, I went out back and checked the small switch that powers the cameras at the back on my property, and that's dead too. At this point, I'm fearing II just lost all my cameras, but wouldn't know until I replaced the switches.

Got a new switch delivered this morning, for the house mounted cameras, and they all came back online. Used my cable tester on the cables out back, and all of the cables tested fine. Put a jumper patch between the uplink cable, and the 3 camera cables, and turns out I did lose 1 camera. I suspect the strike was close enough that the charge got into the shielded buried cable, and ran back to the house through both switches. Have an outdoor PoE switch on order for the back yard, that has lightning protection built in. Will invest in some lightning arresters soon for those back yard cameras.

As I'm reconfiguring my cameras this morning, a number of people are getting their morning walks in, before it gets hot. I know most of the people who walk past my property, but noticed a guy and his dog, who caught my eye. And then this happened...

I had been looking for a guy, who has thrown bags of trash in that same spot, who looks REALLY similar to this guy, from that distance. When I got him to come get it, he made sure to repeatedly tell me, this was his 1st time doing that... That makes me think he's exactly the guy I think he is. Sometimes I really dislike people... If I hadn't been looking at that moment, I wouldn't have known, because the bag was up in a tree.

A lot depends on inspection results and when the last time some services were done.

Was thinking . Front and back breaks and rotors .. change all fluids and filters (except air as just did that and fuel as new with pump) .. plugs and coil packs .. Battery is less than year old but clean connections and check cables .. replace all sensors including both Oxygen and clean the Throttle body. I don't beat on the truck and only tow/haul project related items from HD
