When I had my truck in the shop for repairs after a fender bender, got the shop to also permanently remove the roof rack. EXT's are a bit different than the shorties on the rack retention as there are two ugly humps where the front bolts go. I had removed the rack and just plugged the threaded inserts before. I liked the look but those humps were just too ugly and weird so I put the rack back. What the shop did was just pound them in and fill them in. No cutting or welding.
The rear is also different than the shorties, a bit higher to accommodate the rear passengers but I still like the look a lot. Much cleaner look. I'd better like it because I can't put it back!
So if anybody else is thinking of getting rid of their rack, this will give you a good idea of what it will look like.
