It is actually the exhaust. I believe the Jetta/Passat is a diesel.

Damn. I looked at it quite enlarged and noticed that the silver, what I thought was an exhaust tip, is squared. I guess that is a receiver. If that thing is a diesel it seems to run pretty clean if it is not pouring crap onto the trunk.
 
So I was looking in Google images at Trailblazers and this gem showed up lol. Turns out it was in an old post on TV. Nobody knows what the hell was the deal with this guy's TB and why it was at a car show in this state. Only thing I like about it is the rear door mod.

Looks like it was in some sort of accident and he's in the middle of doing some major entertainment upgrades on the interior
