Hey fellas, here's the conundrum:
Installed rebuilt tranny yesterday with a remanufactured Torque Converter. Drove it yesterday evening and night with no issues. Shifted through the gears smooth and had lockup. This morning on the way to work the ABS and Parking brake lights came on, no codes at all. So I stopped, then put it in park. Dissapeared, then a few minutes later it pops back up again. When I get to work and stop at the gate I can hear a shuddering noise and a light vibration. I go park and it becomes apparent that its coming from the transmission. Transmission ran great, great temps to boot, so I know it wasn't that itself. My assumption and only thing it could be to me is a Torque Converter issue. I don't know what's going on, and why its all of a sudden shuddering whilst having those two lights pop up on the dash. I DO believe the issues are related somehow. Being as I did not have any of these problems yesterday.

I do remember hearing a kind of braking noise while I was driving on the road just a few miles before I even got on the highway. Didn't alarm me at the time. I guess I was able to hear it because of the low speeds and not being on the freeway. So maybe this developed prior to going highway speeds, but no DIC lights were popping up yet?

I've already been given ideas like a bad speed sensor or bad TCC solenoid. I know all the wiring harnesses are plugged good, but I'll double check after work. I think I'll be alright driving back home. After work I'll coast in Drive to see if I can hear or feel anything or if this is just something occurring in Park or when sitting still idling.

Hopefully you guys can give more insight and troubleshooting ideas.

Thanks,
Capote

I would see if the sensor is plugged in fully before calling it bad. Sounds like it is loose from your description

Will for sure check all harnesses today. I do have the origional speed sensor if it turns out that the harness is plugged in properly, to swap and see if that does anything.

I would give it a bit more driving and testing to break in and see how it acts.

How much driving did you have on it last night?

Maybe 15 miles or less? And I was babying it the whole time. This morning I tried to drive it more nornally, but not aggressively at lights, easy acceleration.

It's very odd that both the ABS and brake light came on. If there was an issue with the ABS, only that light would come on. The brake light would come on if there was an issue with the brake system itself, like low fluid. Where I would see both come on at the same time would be if the ABS module would be completely dead and possibly unable to turn on the ABS light. I've seen that on an older vehicle when I pulled the ABS fuse because of a low speed activation issue and when I pulled the ABS bulb, the brake light came on.

I did find this bulletin. Might help.

With my wire on the Impala I get the ABS all the time, but if I hit a rough patch of road or pothole I get a ding and Brake light on. I figure it is from the wiring connecting for a split second then breaking connection.

That is part of why i think loose not bad plug in.

I'll have to see when I get off work, if its not plugged in all the way or not. If so I'll replace it and go from there.

With the crisis averted (as mentioned in anything goes for you folks that aren't supporting the site for whatever reason) if the abs and brake light still come on, maybe ignition switch? I guess the main question is, are the lights still coming on after fixing the rattle? If so, check and see if the ac blower cuts out at the same time. If so, ignition switch.

You just reminded me why I replaced my ignition switch last year. I forgot why I had, it was because those lights were coming on. And yes, lights still coming on, so was a separate issue besides torque converter shuddering (which was loose bolts connecting it to flywheel). I forgot that the ignition switch was a possible cause.

Problem solved, replaced speed sensor and went on Dash Command and cleared codes even without any active. Cleared invisible ABS code.
You may close the thread as (Solved).
