You'll love it I bet. I moved to DSLR about 2002. I'm shooting only 6 MP with 2 of my bodies, 10 with another and 24 with the newest. Probably going to get rid of the 10. I'm shooting with Nikon as well.

Just bought a flash and a radio remote. The flash is pretty good. While it's not a TTL flash, it has a few modes, good for different setups, looks like it'll be great for an off camera strobe, and was about $50. The radio remote let's me us the flash as an off camera strobe, or I can use it to trigger the camera. The distance and direction are a lot better than the OEM remote. The radio remote was about $25. I got these from Ebay from a US seller for only $2 or $3 more than having it shipped from China. The brand is Yongnuo. Here's what they have for your camera:

Suggestions: buy at least 2 extra batteries. You can get them for under $10 (non OEM), and an extra 12V/120V charger (I've bought 2 batteries and that charger for $20 on Ebay or Amazon). Consider a flash besides the built in. Much better distance, and it won't chew up the camera battery so quickly. Rent some lenses. Tons of online places and some brick and mortar places have them for rent. I rented a 50 mm 1.4. I wanted to see how much of a difference between the 50 mm 1.8 and the 1.4 there was. The 1.4 was about $350 and the 1.8 could be had for $80. It was worth the extra, but I wouldn't have known that unless I tried it out first.

Looking forward to seeing your shots.

Oh, I almost forgot

Thanks for the Info man! So far from what i have seen with using it i can def tell im going to enjoy having a DSLR. my previous go to camera is a Nikon Coolpix L120 which is backed up by a Canon Powershot A470. The Canon is my "truck" camera that usually rides in the console of the TB so i have a camera on hand pretty much all the time. I also have an older Toshiba PDR M700 which is a Digital zoom camera like the L120. It was because of the shots i was getting with the old Toshiba that lead me to running the L120. So moving to a Nikon DSLR was the next logical step. What model bodies do you have? Depending on price i may be interested in grabbing that 10 MP body from ya.

Those are all pretty good cameras. I think what you've already noticed is the instant on and picture ability. No warm up time, nothing. Another suggestion is to get a few more memory cards. If you have Photoshop, great. If not, you can get Raw Therapee for free (rawtherapee.com). If you shoot in RAW mode you have a lot of control of image processing after it's shot. It takes up a lot more space, but the memory cards aren't very expensive. In case you don't know, those cards aren't magnetic so no worries about losing shots like that. My D-70 and s use compact flash cards. I had two go through the wash and dry. Used some rice, sat the cards on the rice for a day or two, and still using them.

I have a D-70, a D-70s (mostly just a software upgrade from the D-70), a D-80, and a D-7100. I send the bodies out for factory service every 2 years. The D-70 and s were rated for a shutter "tested to" count of 100,000 actuations. I've got one with over 400,000 and the other is a little over 200,000. The D-80 was tested to 150,000 and I show 170,000. I didn't use it as much because when I was shooting a lot I wanted the same memory card and battery for everything. I had another D-70 body that I sold when I got the 7100.

I will let you know if the D-80 becomes available. A friend who bought the other D-70 wants a second body and I told him I'd give him first dibs.

Once again thanks for the info! And def look forward to hearing about the D80 when the time comes. One feature of the D80 i noticed that i like already is the fact it can use the same SDHC memory cards as my D3200. And yes i did notice that instant readiness between shots...infact i accidentally fired off a burst of shots without even realizing that it had occurred lol

Another shot from yesterday
