Taking huge chunks out of anything seems like a bad idea, unless it involves stuffing your face. 
I guess the only other alternative would be to seat the high beam projector further back in the bowl. I don't know how large the big rubber ring is that sits on the back, but that could possibly be modded. Or if you were up for it, ditch the threaded shaft method altogether, enlarge the reflector bowl opening, and go with the epoxy gum method to tack it in place during alignment, and JB weld on the back side.
If you really wanted to have a good time you could take the low beam pair of the MD2S 2.0s from the first set, and use those for the high beams, and put your other set of MD2S 3.0s in the low beams of the first set. But you know how I get with big modding ideas

It looks like you have one LHD and one RHD shield, or is there something funky going on with that wall?
Oh that's right, the 3.0s are riveted together. I've seen a lot of people complain about that. Well they sent you the wrong one, that's their fault, they should send you a new one, and then you can send the RHD one back.
