Removing engine and transmission together

Update... the engine from the 05 Trailblazer ran very well in the buggy. Great oil pressure. No leaks. Good water temp. So it’s going in an 05 Envoy

On a previous update I showed pulling everything out if the Envoy together. Now it’s time to put it all back in. It went in easier than it came out. The key was finding the right angle on the hoist using straps and chains. Once it was in the engine bay I put the end of the transfer case on a jack to slide it in. I had to rest the oil pan on the front so that I could readjust the chains on the engine hoist. I was hoping at that point I could install the intake manifold but there just wasn’t enough room between it and the cowl.

I did it all with the tires on the ground. I thought I would have to remove the driver side engine mount but the differential just barely cleared. I did remove the two rubber mounts to make room.

the worst part is over. Wrestling around under the vehicle lining up the exhaust and transmission mount. Today is filling the fluids and attaching everything to the engine which I’ve done numerous times thanks to practice using the test buggy.

One other comment is that I have found lifting this engine isn’t easy. You’ll see I use the engine mount holes as the forward lifting point. It’s very hard to balance the engine so I use ratcheting straps on the transmission to level it. Previously I use the bracket above the alternator and bolt hole on the rear passenger side cylinder head. This new five point method worked good in order to get it into the engine bay. Then I readjusted the chain so I could drop the engine down onto the mount.

It makes sense to use a more rearward spot for the front lift chain since you also have the tranny and transfer case attached to counterbalance.

Do you find you need to remove the intake manifold for extra room with the top of the cowl?
