Parking Brake cable has too much tension

Hello everyone, running into a bit of an issue with my '03 Silverado 1500. I replaced my rear parking brake cables and my intermediate cable, but when I go to connect the two, there is too much tension on the front cable causing about 2 inches distance between the bracket and the intermediate cable bolt. My truck specifically uses rear discs and the gm 25780186 parking break pedal. I read online that the pedal mechanism is self adjusting via a ratcheting system and that's why I'm running into this issue. However, I have zero idea on how to unlock the ratchet in order to make slack. Any help would be appreciated

I have the official GM shop manuals but could not make sense of the procedure they described. The best description was in a YouTube video but even that was lacking clarity as it is nearly impossible to get a camera in the deep crevasse where the parking brake lever resides. That does lead me in the right direction, however I have a much different parking break system than that

I would assume that cables have a different length for regular cab, extended cab and crew cab. You did not say which you have.

I have the standard bed, extended cab. The cables I ordered were correct length

Ok, you ordered the correct ones but did you GET the correct ones? Did you compare to the old ones? I am assuming you did that but I like to eliminate any possible questions when it comes to asking for help.

I did, and after messing with it today, I figured out that the slack was in the ratchet, and you're supposed to pin the ratchet and pull the front cable towards the back of the truck. However, even when pinning the ratchet, I cannot pull the slack towards the rear.
