Well, I was wrong. They pulled the pins out and no cast or splint. Start therapy in 2 weeks. Still swollen and lots of scabbing to work through. Got to do a lot of soaking of the hand to get it softened up. I did take a better look at the x-rays and it appears that while I could be lucky I may have some loss in the forefinger and thumb. The doctor noted that he may be able to, if needed, fuse the thumb and I might lose some curling motion on it but would still have opposable motion. Right now they are both still pretty stiff and I have not been able to really move them at all.

These are the pins that came out of my forefinger and my thumb and you can see how far in they went. I expected some unique tool to remove them. The doctor had his arm out and the assistant reached over, grabbed the tool, and then handed them to the doctor. When I looked it was a pair of pliers and it had Harbor Freight written in the grip. I started to laugh. Some pain when these came out but mostly just a weird sensation as you feel it coming out through the top of the flesh.

Wow brother that still looks rough. Hopefully a little therapy will regain some movement.

I have to say, since you sent me that initial PM, I check my mirrors and surrounding more often when sitting at stop lights/signs, waiting for a train to cross, etc at night. Try to have better SA of my surroundings, complacency kills. Scary $hit man, can happen to anyone.
